PMCs wont be cheaper than using our own military?

the army pays low salaries and isn't a for-profit model with executives, etc taking giant salaries. how would a PMC possibly compete with the non-profit US military?

https://work.chron.com/private-military-company-pay-vs-army-pay-24574.html

PMCs:

Their pay, according to CNN, ranges between $500 per day and $750 per day or between $15,000 and $22,500 per month.

Army:

A private, entering advanced individual training earns $1,468 per month. A sergeant with five years experience, possibly including combat, earns a base pay of $2,448 per month. A master sergeant with 20 years of experience may be only 38 years old and earns $4,189 per month in base pay. An infantry officer, after five years of service, probably has combat leadership experience and -- if a first lieutenant -- earns $4,349 per month. If that same officer holds the rank of captain, he earns $4,952 per month in base pay.

base pay is relatively low but the benefits are quite generous

Reading through his episode list for the past 2-3 years, among the right-leaning guests, I see some IDW, some garden variety Conservatives, some Paleocons, some Neocons, a couple Alt-Lite, but no bona fide Alt-Right types.

From my observations, there's been a de facto policy of not giving the Alt-Right a platform among the more prominent podcasters (the exceptions being Jones and Molyneux, who have had some beyond questionable guests in their time). This is for good reason - the people who have considered themselves Alt-Right since its colloquial definition shift in late 2016 make the figures that many on this board call "Alt-Right" look downright progressive by comparison.

One was a collage of photos of Kali Uchis (all clothed, seeing as the alternative does not seem to exist in the public realm), one was a painting of three (clothed) Greek women, and one was a painting of Job (with a cloth draped over him).

That aside, several similarly innocuous reblogs were censored, the most absurd being a view of the horizon at sunset from an airplane.

Never mind the ethical issues associated with censorship and the assorted adverse consequences for tumblr as a community, automated image recognition is nowhere close to mature enough for use on an industrial scale, and tumblr's management is causing far more harm than good in what it's doing - both to its users and itself.

Ironically, hobbyists on 4chan have done a better job of image recognition (which they use to identify body parts in order to de-censor pictures) than whoever the hell tumblr is paying to implement theirs.

They're not paying anyone, they're using an open-source neural network lmao.

Someone still had to provide it with training data, and to choose the class of neural network used.

And whoever that was should be taken out back and flogged with an Alaskan salmon.

I take it most people don't know what a neocon actually is.

If you think John Bolton is one....yeah, you don't know what a neocon is and its just a buzzword for you

I'm curious why you think he isn't.

A big part of neoconservatism is about spreading democracy. Bolton has no interest in that and just wants to bomb people.
Bolton is actually more alt-right than neocon.

The alternative right most loosely refers to the right-wing ideologies pushed from mainstream discourse by the New Right in the 1960s (namely the Old Right, Objectivists, Birchers, and White Supremacists) and their descendants (Paleocons, Paleolibertarians, assorted Patriot groups, and the "Alt-Right" as it has been known since 2016). The New Right seems to have gradually morphed into Neoconservatism.

Bolton's ideological genealogy does not match any of these outside groups, as far as I know - and given his affiliation with the known Neoconservative think tank American Enterprise Institute, I really see no reason why he cannot be labeled as such.

Why do people say this about Sam Harris? He supports liberal policies like drug decriminalization, gay marriage, and support Hillary over Trump in the election. How is he a neocon?

Evangelical subset aside, Neocons can actually be pretty libertarian. They just have an irrational tendency to support Israel and advocate American involvement in foreign conflicts. It's bizarre, but I suppose I don't know them well enough to explain why their foreign policy is so horrid.

I feel glad that I avoid those types and never fell further in than some r/TiA or Sargon of Akkad

Sargon is pretty centrist. Not acquainted with TiA, but I'm not a Redditor.

It's useful to be acquainted with the full spectrum of ideas, from fringe left to fringe right, libertarian to authoritarian, and the nuances that lie therein between them. Every position on the proverbial multidimensional spectrum offers its own insightful critiques of other positions. Every position has its own sacred cows that it's completely blind to. Every position that's managed to have been applied in some form or another can even be empirically analyzed.

Plus you can talk to and debate with anyone at some semblance of depth on their views, reframe your ideas using the terminology of other ideologies to be more persuasive, and change the course of discussion by insiders.

With the ideological polarization problem we're experiencing, it's the only way to build bridges.

and doesn't pander solely to urban coastal interests.

That is a tricky one.

How do you pander to a state that Almost Voted a pedopile into congress? (Roy Moore) he even said that the best time in America was slavery and he was still on course to win at that time.

How do you pander to a state that just elected a governor that taks about monkeying this up by voting for a black man and who ran racist Facebook groups? (Desantis)

How do you pander to a state where a woman said shed gladly go to a public hanging, who takes pics with confederate clothes and who would switch to segregated schools?

You cant be a mainstream politician and pander to those people, they are too far out there.

Let the people govern themselves. Targeting the industries in their regions, redistributing their money to other regions, and funneling drugs into their communities so they kill themselves is a great way to radicalize them.

Sounds like pandering to me.

It cracks me up he is so paternalistic towards these non coastal elites, as if they were dumb children.

I mean if theyre overdosing on crack its not their fault! Its also not the fault of the good old boy who sold them drugs, its the fault of the scary minority that got the drugs to the dealer!

If they are dumb enough to think that they can make a living out of coal mining in this day and age, which is like thinking you can make s living repairing windows 3.1 machines and 56k modems, its YOUR fault for targetting their industries.

Some party of personal accountability haha

there's nothing paternalistic about the belief that states and indeed communities should be able to govern themselves how they like and bear full responsibility for the consequences

if their industries can manage to stay profitable or they attract investment, good for them

if they destroy their environment through through ecological mismanagement or create a labor shortage by driving people out with poor conditions, they and no one else should own it

if they suffer from one-trick-pony economic activities, it's their job to adapt when things go south - nobody should have to subsidize their malaise, but neither should their revenue be heavily siphoned elsewhere

they shouldn't be told how to operate, but neither should they be bailed out if they fail miserably

as it presently stands though, years of government meddling in economic affairs and cronyism with certain sectors - private and public alike - has made a major mess of things, to the point where you really can't tell up from down in society, so to speak

with that said, your lack of empathy and stereotyping of communities devastated by opiates sounds identical to the rhetoric of racists ridiculing inner cities devastated by unemployment and narcotics in yesteryear
