I love OPM and couldn't get into this show at all. It's so dated and basic. I feel like it's even more basic than Naruto. Every character is super archetypal and shallow yet the show feels the need to slowly walk you through all the same old story beats, like you're some sort of idiot. Like yeah we get the whole main guy/childhood rival/girl dynamic, get on with it. After 5 episodes they were STILL focusing on the same boring core characters, instead of the 30+ potentially cool other characters.

All that is okay I guess. It doesn't compare to OPM in the slightest, which is more of a drama and cares about good writing, but there's nothing wrong with some basic shonen.

But the show promises so much and provides absolutely no substance at all. None of the characters changed at all since episode 1. I skipped to the end of S1 and still no one changed. They pretend they have this thematic subversion because the main guy hurts himself when he uses power... but literally all the conflicts from episode 1 through the finale are solved by brute force. The show thinks it's cool and mature for merely asking deep questions, even though it completely avoids answering.

You might like it for the animation and the basic formula and mayyyybe some characters, but there's nothing thematically or emotionally interesting in it.

It's good but not my favorite. Definitely has some awesome moments.

I think what really hurts it for me is no one dies, ever.

Lightning choking so badly against DK is maybe the most embarrassing result of the contest. How in the world does the main character of a modern Final Fantasy game lose to DK when there's another Nintendo character in the poll?

I just caught up including the Kerrigan/SC2/Blizzard discussion.

To people who played FF8 Seifer is unlikeable douchebag, he's your stereotypical high school jock (think Flash Thompson, hell he even looks like him) and for how tough he acts he's laughably easy in all of his boss fights, even if you don't abuse the game's broken mechanics and he never really has any cool moments besides the opening FMV and cutting Odin in two, and even then Gilgamesh steals the scene.

People were assuming he'd beat Celes since he's Squall's "Sephiroth" and appeared in Kingdom Hearts 2 and Celes easily lost to the boss, on top of that she had unrecognizable Amano art in the match. Image how bad she'd beat Seifer with this pic.

Also I don't feel bad because Riot got #metoo'd yesterday, and I believe it. f*** those guys:

In a huge rally like that, the amount of people posting here or even in the reddit thread about it are a miniscule minority of the overall picture

Draven showed us the absolute dregs of that community, some of its lowest and worst people, not the actual average LoL player who genuinely wouldn't care beyond just clicking the link, voting and moving on. There were like 75000 of them, remember - the people that cared enough to be shitheads about it are a tiny fraction.

So to go back to what Nick said, only revealing results after a match doesn't stop that horde of apathetic "two-clicks-and-gone" voters, but it does stop people on the other side who may see what is happening and attempt to mount a counter-rally.

Over the past few years the line between the Nintendo, Mega Man and Sonic fandoms has definitely become was more blurred. While Eggman had no shot to beat either of these guys, it's interesting to speculate how many votes he pulled from the other two.

Now I want Ditto in a contest just so we can have a match pic with the same character repeated, just with dots for eyes.

honestly if Bacon wants traffic at all for this contest he should play things fast and loose

it's the 10th anniversary after all, it would be good to just kind of... go balls to the walls with it. just go nuts. make it a celebration of the wackiness and unpredictability of these contests. why not?
