Not sure yet. They got GL buffs, so we'll have to see what those are before we can really say if they're good or not. I'm pulling for them regardless, but I'm trying to keep my expectations low.

So I still had my original fight going and yes, I can kill both Marlboro's in two turns with breaks. I eventually did lose because my patterns were thrown off, but I'm pretty sure I can take this fight now. Pretty sure I can take this fight now, just have to worry about timing the LB for the kill, because I do not want to have to do this trial again. Thanks for all your help Fiyun.

Worst part of the fight I just did was I actually managed to kill Great Marlboro twice, I just couldn't do it at the same time as the small ones. Twice! Survived until about Turn 40 before Basch somehow died (probably took a debuff hit while Ramza was devoured), and Fina a couple of turns before. Wasn't going to recover from that. But a whole hell of a lot better than my first attempts at this last year.

D'oh, no wonder. I was so wrapped up in the idea of "Breaks are useless against the big one" that I completely spaced that I could break the smaller ones.

So with the timing, do I just have to make sure I can do enough damage to the big one with its massive defenses up? Because I doubt I can kill all three in the short timeframe of a Skin Softened debuff. I thankfully have enough ST skills between the Barbs and BSS, but that also means I'd need to survive some of the big Marlboro's onslaughts, including losing my provoker to Devour, right?

Well the good news is my defenses are top notch enough to survive. Basch can tank all the party-wide attacks with no issues. Ramza can take every hit thrown at him. Status defenses are perfect.

The bad news is I can't get the damage up high enough. I wound up killing the mini-marlboros on off-turns, and I couldn't figure out how to get back on track. The upside is I was actually able to survive all of that, including having Ramza Devoured, with only the occasional death on Fina and one on my Barbie. So I know my team can survive most anything Marlboro throws at me, I just need to change up my damage.

Which is why I'm swapping out Marie for BSSakura, using her status protection move for the team, and then blasting everything down with Quick Rebel Intention capping Tornado chains. Fina's gonna have a hell of a time keeping up on the MP, but I think that'll work better. I may even swap out Fina for Lunera, better MP regen, stat buffs, and I really didn't need Curaja-level healing.

So my only real issue now is how do I deal with killing all three at once? As soon as the Skin Softened goes away, I'm not dealing all that much damage, and the breaks I can bring aren't going to make much of a dent in its defenses.

Alright, so I've got

M. Ramza with 8845 HP/524 DEF/344 SPR
Basch with 12465 HP/388 DEF/420 SPR and 100% Dark Resist
Barbie with 1118 MAG and Demon Killer+ Ramuh
Marie with Rikku's Pouch and Bushido since she's going to have off-turns not doing much else
LB Fina with a Ribbon just in-case status ailments get through

I have no idea if those defenses are going to hold up. We'll just have to see when I get a Barb friend with Ramuh up. If Ramza can't survive I'll see if I can build WoL with similar gear or use a 100% evade Noctis instead.

So for damage dealing, am I better off with DC Tornado, or DC Tornado+Aeroja? I know the latter takes time to build up, but is the overall damage better once Aeroja is capped? I'm wanting to try this tonight and tomorrow, so I'd be bringing a friend Barbie. I'm not doing much else with my stamina, since my TMR macro doesn't seem to be able to run more than a few hours without breaking. Woke up this morning and it was in a different app entirely.

I'll probably give it one or two tries just figuring things out, and hopefully I can clear it in the next couple days.

I think the only one I'm going to do is Orlandeau, and I'm not feeding him any cactuars since I haven't chain fused more than one. If we don't get a fusion bonus on Friday, then I'll go ahead and try and pump him up.

I may try to do SBDF, but only if I can make a good shot at clearing Marlboro. Any tips for taking that down? I'm unfortunately exceedingly short on Ribbons (i.e. I only have one), so I'm for sure likely to need some form of status protection from Marie or Mystea. Beyond that I'm looking at LB Fina for healing, MP, and dispel as needed, Barbie and Lexa for chaining (friend Barbie if I need more of my own units), and I'm not 100% sure what my tank needs are. I have Basch for AoE, WoL/Merc Ramza for provoke without 100% evade, and Noctis for provoke with 100% evade.

I'm pretty much going to blow everything on FFVIII, and then probably try and save a little for Halloween on the slim hope that GLSakura gets a 7*. I doubt I'll actually be able to, because I tend to burn my resources pretty fast, so it'll more likely be spend everything as I get it then frantically save a couple weeks worth of tickets and lapis. And if she doesn't get a 7*, my next target is Valkyrie Profile.

Favorites. I'm past the point of wanting to chase meta units, especially with 7* incoming. I realize chasing favorites isn't going to be much better, but if I'm going to chase something, I'm going to make it a unit I appreciate having because I like them, not because they're impressive in the meta. Since I don't spend much money on this game, my chances of getting a 7*, much less an STMR, are pretty small. So if I'm going to have to accept whatever 7* units I get, I might as well get them chasing units I'd like to have, even if they're not ideal.

Besides, as I said, I pretty much wait for content to be power-crept anyway, and I already have an acceptable spread of 7* units anyway. Not ideal by any means, but what I'd consider good enough for how much I play.

How did I not know that Reload was a thing? Seriously, I only just realized a day or two ago that the Reload button was a thing. This would have made so many thing so much less tedious. Holy crap.

Also, just looking for opinions. I've looked ahead, and the only banners I'd actually be interested in pulling heavily on are the upcoming FFVIII banner, Livid Shantotto, and Valkyrie Profile if we get it. Beyond that, nothing would interest me other than dailies. The problem is we've got this Universal Bundle that's a great deal for people who do 10+1 pulls, and with FFVIII being so close, there's no way I can get enough Lapis to make more than three pulls on the Step Up. So since I'm going all in on that banner anyway, the choice is between getting all three of the Universal Bundles, with a bit of lapis leftover, or go gung-ho on story for the next week and hope I get enough lapis for three pulls on the step-up banner? There's no way I'm buying lapis (especially at what it would cost to get the last two step up pulls), so those are really the only options I've got.

And maybe it'd be better to wait and see what the three step ups are, assuming we do get FFVIII this week. Gumi might just Gumi. But just in general would I be better going for one or the other?

I ran it with:

Basch: Magic tank
Noctis: 100% evade provoke tank
LB Fina: Healer/MP Battery
BSSakura: Finisher
GLSakura: Chain damage
Friend GL Sakura

Any magic tank should work in Basch's place, although Mystea might need some damage mitigation, I'm not sure. The 100% evade tank just needs to be able to Provoke and draw in the normal attacks, but evade isn't necessary if you use someone like WoL or Wilhelm with good defense and HP. For your healer, mostly you need Reraise (especially for the phase transition) and MP sustain. If you don't have a healer with the ability to DC Reraise to get it on everyone (use Genji shield and Safety bit to cut down on the Reraises you need to cast), you can also use Rikku's Limit Break. Since I had both in LB Fina, I was able to bring a finisher for added damage, but it's not strictly necessary. As for your chainers, any non-elemental damage that doesn't rely on Black Magic will work. GLSakura is still really popular for this, as is Trance Terra.

Maybe lay out some options so we can comment on what you have? My team above lacked the ability to get Crazy Day, but I was able to clear the other missions no problem.

Yeouch. I think I'm gonna need whatever technique Fiyun uses to get his obscene amount of gil. Unless it involves the Friend Point summon. I think I tried that twice before I decided it wasn't worth the time investment.

She's awesome. She'll likely be a permanent member of my team for harder content when her 7* drops. Lid is nice, but very limited in what she can do. Loren's breaks are a little lower, but she can do so much more. Since this is Gumi, they might delay Loren's 7* though (I believe she was in batch 2 in JP), so you probably have plenty of time to keep using Lid.

I guess I'm wondering if there'll be any niche use for Lid, or if I should just save the gil when she gets released and not 7* her. Because I'm really, really not seeing how Lid would ever have a use over Loren, unless Loren's other support moves wouldn't have a use for me. Like, y'know, if I never use Light, Lightning, or Wind damage (which are pretty much the only elements I use like ever).

Ah well, I'm probably more salty that it was my only rainbow. Like voltch, there were other units I would've liked, even for 7* instead of new, but I'll take what I can get. Next Friday will be where the salt really flows, as I'm going all-in on FFVIII.

Yeah, I'm borrowing Olives off my friendlist just so I can actually hit the 4 mil damage I need for max coinage. The lack of chaining damage counting really bites, and unfortunately I don't have any of the super-powerful finishers I'd actually need to make this work. The ones I do have require setup or a couple of turns to build power, and that just doesn't cut it.

Buh, I completely forgot about Leviathan and Phoenix. Still haven't gotten their 2* yet. Ah well, I'm in no rush. Not really using them all that often anyway. Although with all the NRG-heavy stuff goes away tomorrow, even without the 1/2 off costs I should probably work to finish the story as much as I can for all that juicy Lapis.

What's everyone else going to do with their energy during the raid? Outside of obvious Cactuar farming over the weekend.

It depends if you like his auto-heal and less flexible equipment selection.

And I think that would be the killer for me. Maybe, maybe if I feel like it next time around I'll go for it. But if I've got both Basch and Merc. Ramza, who both have amazing equipment selections and cover both roles EV would for me, I think I can safely ignore him.

It heIps that rather hated EV in the story anyway. So he's pretty, shallow, and he likes the thrill of the fight? Yeah I get it, but it just wasn't nearly as fun as Water or Light.

And yay for all the people that are going to go TDH for DV to clog up the friendlist just for that extra few points of ATK!</sarcasm> It's not like I don't have enough Sephiroths doing the same damn thing.

Man those Veritas Enhancements are expensive. I think I may just wait for the next round of cryst caves to do those. Not like I use the Veritas much to begin with. I'm only missing Dark, but I haven't even leveled Wind, Water just won't compare long-term, and I don't have Fixed Dice or any actually good axes. The only ones I'd do are Earth, and I just upped Merc Ramza as a provoke tank so hopefully VoE doesn't completely outclass him, and Light, whom I don't have any good equipment for.

Maybe I'll at least run her gun through the item world and get some Mag modifiers for it. Knowing my luck I'll get the rare skill for it when I've been trying so hard to get it on the Automatic Pistols instead. :P
