Oath in Felghana
Origin
I & II (Turbo CD and Steam versions roughly equal I guess)
VI: The Ark of Napishtim (only played the PS2 version, which is likely not optimal)
III: Wanderers from Ys (Turbo CD version; the SNES port had a better framerate though. Wouldn't surprise me if Genesis was the best overall but haven't gotten to that one.)
V
IV: Mask of the Sun

My laptop apparently isn't powerful enough for Ys Seven since it runs the opening movie at half-speed but with the audio at normal speed.

I'm very anti-exploration which may have been the issue I had with the demo after just getting off Xanadu's corridors. I like guided experiences, the big open space was a bad sign for me.

there are clear markers for story destinations and points of interest!

I only played very little of it ... it's kind of slow. Eh, I'll get back to it someday.

i guess the start is a little slow, but things do pick up. exploration is fun (especially if you turn off the minimap). and if you just want to jump place to place, there's a well done fast travel option as well

I dunno, I played the demo after beating Tokyo Xanadu Ex+ and didn't dig it at all. Is the demo a bad representation?

Incredibly inept porting and localization by NISA aside, they've finallt gotten the game to a good state (for ps4 and switch at least). It should not be overlooked.

Great gameplay, cool concept of being stranded on an island and searching for survivors, jammin music, and some good actual difficulty (if you want it).

I hit ch4 last night and I'm having a blast.

just ignore the PC version tho

and you'll have to reconfigure the button layout since the default makes no goddamn sense. I have my own which is as good as I think it gets, which i can post if people are interested.

It's a very good game that is not getting the recognition it deserves due to NISA's unparalleled incompetence

Yeah Fayt's wet blanket personality bounces well off of Cliff and Nel really well. Lots of JRPG main characters are wet blankets, but having a cast that balances it out and plays off of it, and a plot that shows the main character coming out of his shell to reflect his companions is SUPER rare. Don't forget Maria is pretty cool too. The rest of the cast isn't incredible but they're all pretty cool in their own way and fun to play as, usually you're lucky to have even one character you like in a JRPG party.

Anyway if you can think of a better cast I encourage you to post it! I'll tear it down with my terrible opinions!

The thing I remember most about this game (besides the twist) is that I hated party AI and started having a lot more fun when I started soloing things. Probably didn't have any idea what I was doing though. Fat, Cliff, Nel, and Maria were all pretty cool too.

Also, Nel's one coworker has the worst voice I've ever heard.

I think Farleen? The only reason I remember that name is cuz her acting was SOOOOO bad.

if we're talking shitty food services, i had a pizza hut screw up a pizza delivery 3 times in a row over the course of 3 hours. first delivery had the absolute wrong toppings, plus was dropped or something because the cheese was slid all over the place. second delivery had a fucking slice missing. third delivery was stone cold.

this was when I was way younger but I've never seen my mom get upset with someone and yell at them over the phone like that. of course nothing came of it from the store.
