James Gunn never raped/molested/inappropriately touched a child, nor did he look at graphic sexual imagery of children.

Of course, unless you can prove otherwise. Which I know you can't.

Zeus

Doesn't matter, he's still a pedophile.

Um. It does matter. You are calling someone a pedophile without any proof that they are a pedophile, beyond jokes they made on Twitter almost a decade ago.

Joking about something doesn't mean you condone those things. It just means you can joke about them. How/why your mind is incapable of making that distinction is kinda disturbing. You must be a real nutjob, Zeus.

If you think pedophile jokes are bad....does that mean people who make Holocaust jokes actively seek out and murder Jews?

I once saw a meme that was an image of a pile of ashes. The caption was: "Anne Frank family photo."

I chuckled.

I guess that means I murder Jews.

Who knew?! lmao

lolwut? It's a sexual orientation. People aren't arrested for merely having the orientation -- which he certainly does -- but instead for acting on it, whether it's messing with child porn or assaulting children. And James Gunn is certainly a confirmed pedophile, which you could confirm for yourself if you read some of those tweets.

Saying someone is a pedophile because they have joked about pedophilia on Twitter....is like calling someone a rapist because they joked about rape. That's not how it works.

Pedophilia is not merely an orientation. It's a brand given for a disgusting action. That action being that they molested/raped/inappropriately touched a child with sexual intent and/or looked at/took graphic imagery of children. You can't be a pedophile if you've never taken action to make yourself a pedophile. Just as you can't be a murderer unless you've actually murdered someone.

James Gunn never raped/molested/inappropriately touched a child, nor did he look at graphic sexual imagery of children.

Of course, unless you can prove otherwise. Which I know you can't.

So calling him a confirmed pedophile is slanderous and wrong. If you were a journalist you'd be fired for saying that. You'd also be sued.

So yeah.

The Twitter outrage is meaningless compared to the real-world outrage that would follow if Disney brought back a known pedophile to work on films to work on films with a large child following.

Um...you are exaggerating the issue here. Wording it that way makes it sound as if you believe James Gunn is a CONFIRMED AND CONVICTED pedophile. He isn't.

All he did was joke about it on Twitter.

Joking about something doesn't immediately mean that person is condoning it.

I know a frightening amount of dead baby jokes. In fact, in Stephen King's Dark Tower series, they use dead baby jokes to defeat Blaine the Mono. (seriously, it's hilarious).

That doesn't mean Stephen King or I support the murder of babies. It just means we can acknowledge dark humor for dark humor's sake.

We just live in professionally offended outrage culture. Everyone is a politically correct Nazi. And they aren't behaving that way because they are genuinely morally upstanding. They act that way because they are virtue-signalling. And it's pathetic.

I don't think I've ever read, seen, or heard of a Manga that doesn't have fan service to SOME degree.

Or weird sexual moments. Or awkward love triangles or sexual tension. There's always some kind of shock value, or something quirky. That's usually why they decided to make it into a Manga and not a liveaction movie or pictureless novel.

It just comes with the territory of the medium.

What you are asking for doesn't exist.

That's like asking for a big budget Hollywood movie with no-name actors, an excellent story, an original soundtrack, no CGI, and no major political agenda.

It just doesn't exist. Because it can't exist.

Exactly. Which is what has me the most confused.

I don't think I've seen a single person in FAVOR of James Gunn's firing.

So why would Disney need to be so stubborn about it?

Nobody cared what James Gunn said. So firing him was 100% pointless. It didn't impact Disney's success or "image" in any way, shape, or form.

So rehiring him should equally be a non-issue. It's not like it would damage Disney for "admitting they made a mistake". People would probably just be happy Disney rehired him.

Seriously, none of it makes sense. Nobody is losing anything except James Gunn here. Disney has nothing to lose. Nobody is associating James Gunn's ancient Tweets with the values of the company.

Why must corporations be so stubborn and obtuse?

If Disney hadn't fired James Gunn (the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies) do you think people would have liked Disney any less?

Do you honestly think people would have bought their merchandise less or watched their movies/tv shows less?

I'm honestly trying to understand modern society, because a lot of these business practices don't make any logical sense to me.

[quick summary of the situation]

So, for those of you that don't know, James Gunn was a bit of a weirdo when he was starting out in Hollywood. He wasn't quite into directing yet, and he was just trying to be a writer, producer, or comedian anyway he could. He was trying to be anything, really. And he wasn't finding much success either. Almost a decade ago, he started dabbling in the dark humor market for shock-and-awe because it tended to get people's attention. Nothing we haven't already seen from comedians like Anthony Jeselnik, Daniel Tosh, Dane Cook, George Carlin, etc. Saying disgusting, sarcastic stuff for attention. Because tame humor was boring. In the social media world we all live in now....you can't just make a tasteful joke and be heard. You NEED to make it controversial in order to go viral. So he said some things. Apologized for them. Disney was even aware of these things when they hired him to direct Guardians of the Galaxy. But recently, some idiot journalist dug through his old posts and made them all headlines again. Clearly in the attempt to ruin his career. And Disney needed to save face....so they fired him.

What I'm trying to understand....is why Disney thought that by keeping him hired....would somehow be detrimental to the company.

I've been seeing this kinda shit a lot lately. Some guy works at Wal-Mart, and maybe makes some kind of abortion joke on Facebook. Wal-Mart immediately fires the guy, because "His values do not reflect those of the company."

Ummm.....who thought they did? I don't think anyone alive would have thought Wal-Mart SUPPORTS abortion just because you decided to keep him employed.

Are there honestly people out there that can't make that distinction? Are you or anyone you know like that?

In 7th grade, this jerk in my class, took my Gatorade off my desk and threw it at the wall. I don't remember why he did it, and I also, strangely, don't even remember any teachers being present or him getting in trouble for doing it. The cap popped off and, grape drink splattered all over the wall. Students laughed. And I was annoyed that I just lost my drink.

He was just this super spontaneous, aggressive, idiotic piece of human shit that just did things like that sometimes. For attention. To be aggressive. To assert his dominance over the other students. To make a scene.

Well, I was getting to that age where I too was becoming more aggressive and just not in the mood to tolerate the stupidity of my peers. So I decided to teach him a lesson. Our gym teacher was super strict about our requirement to always have gym clothes to change into. If any student "forgot" their gym clothes, they couldn't participate in gym class. Some lazy students saw this as a cool thing, and would intentionally not being their gym clothes so they wouldn't have to participate. The gym teacher realized what was happening and said that anyone who doesn't bring gym clothes will be docked an entire letter grade for every day they don't participate. So if you have an A...you will end up with a B for forgetting your gym clothes.

So I went into the bastards locker and stole his gym clothes. Most of the lockers at the school were super cheap and could be opened just by wiggling the latch.

Gym class came around. His was whining to the teacher that he couldn't find his gym clothes. He swore he brought them. The teacher was mad at him. Made a big scene out of it. He was begging and pleading and swearing up and down that he brought gym clothes in his locker. And then he started thinking someone stole them. And after the Gatorade incident earlier in the day.....he kinda glanced at me. And then other people started glancing at me. The teacher wouldn't let gym class start until someone confessed.

I made my class sit in silence for a good 15 minutes straight, while everyone just kinda glared at me accusingly. Everyone knew I did it, because they knew I was pissed at him for throwing my Gatorade.

There was no evidence it was me. No one saw me take his gym clothes. They just knew.

So yeah. It was cringy as hell. Just sitting there in utter silence in gym class, with the whole class AND the teacher just glaring at me. Waiting for me to confess. And me just sitting there wondering if I should because there was no proof it was me. Or just continue to sit in silence. I thought after maybe 5 minutes the teacher would just let it go.....but no. She just kept waiting. It was fucking ridiculous.

Eventually I stood up and was like, "Yeah. It was me. Congrats. Don't throw people's drinks you idiot."

And a few people laughed. But most just kept glaring at me.

Surprisingly, I didn't get detention or anything. And that idiotic kid calmed down a lot more after that and never gave people problems.

Ohhhhh!!!! I forgot who Tommy Robinson was! I don't know him by his name. I just know of him by being that UK guy who was outspoken against the Islam plague, and how it got him in prison.

That whole story is super sad and super messed up.

Corrupt judges and cops everywhere. Probably paid off by wealthy Muslim oil bastards.

A bunch of pedophiles are let off (because they are Muslim and can't control themselves, apparently), and Tommy points this out to the media.....and he gets arrested? Something doesn't smell right.

Islam doesn't mix well with other cultures. In fact, it's a part of their culture to NOT tolerate other cultures. Assimilation is impossible. The agenda of Islam is to destroy all other cultures so ONLY Islam remains. The punishment for apostasy is death. And that's without even getting into their treatment of women and homosexuals. Buncha god damn barbarians.

The immigrant crisis is ruining entire countries because of the ideals of Islam.

And this message will probably get moderated. Because apparently no one can criticize Islam without being punished. Just like Tommy was.

Actually....yes. I think she knows a very specific person who is in her posse of close friends who she relies on to get her heroin.

This person has a name, a phone number, and an address that she more than likely knows.

Of course, she wouldn't dare throw this person under the bus and get them arrested. However....it is absolutely ridiculous to think the cops wouldn't want to know the identity of her supplier. And if Demi chooses not to give them up....then Demi is a criminal for not doing so. Aiding and abetting. An arrestable offense.

She probably gets it from someone who she doesn't really know, who also gets it from someone who they don't really know, who also gets it from someone they don't really know.

Unrealistic assumption. I have druggie friends, and trust me, there is ALWAYS a call center for druggies. ESPECIALLY high profile users (such as Hollywood). Everyone knows the person they need to go to. The go-to guy for all your addictive needs. Sometimes these people even have actual business cards.

Trust me, Demi isn't just stumbling upon her heroin, or buying it in dark alleys from guys wearing dark hoods. She has a person. And the cops (and the media) should be asking about this. Because it all starts from the source.

All our attention is on the "poor, helpless, emotionally distraught addict".......and we are just completely ignoring the bigger question: Where the hell was she getting this poison in the first place? We should probably do something about that.

They usually don't though. Most addicts get what they can from wherever. Also, their "dealer" is usually someone selling small amounts with little to no connection to dealers with any sort of power or quantity of product.

People don't know where they get their drugs from?

You aren't very familiar with the world, are you? People tend to 'have a guy' they text or call to give them what they want. This person usually has a name, or a cell phone number they can be reached by.

This person is known as a "dealer".

Sure, they are often small game......and get their stuff from a bigger fish. Who gets his stuff from a bigger fish, who probably gets their shit from some shady dude who doesn't speak English very well who has probably killed multiple people over the course of his sad, violent, disgusting life.

But there's always that hierarchy. A totem pole of sick individuals authorities can track.

And it all ends at the drug-user at the finish line. Cops can catch the dealers by questioning the users.

To think questioning users is somehow unconstitutional or immoral.....is pretty sad. Don't you guys care about all the victims of drug addiction out there? Apparently the media wants us to care about them. So why not start doing something about it?

But people don't want to "offend" or "dig too deep".

People should be asking where Demi Lovato got her drugs from. Who was supplying her with the poison she almost overdosed on. Give the authorities a name or a number. Something. Anything. A starting point. Arrest those bigger fish.

Is there a law that states police can't question known drug users?

"When did you start using? Where did you get your drugs from? Who is your dealer?"

Extremely basic and logical questions you'd probably want to ask a heroin addict.

And if the druggie chooses not to answer......then they are committing a crime. Because they aren't cooperating with an investigation. Withholding evidence. Looking out for their dealer. Looking out for themselves. Hoping they can get away with it all by claiming they are a "victim".

It's pretty fascinating.

Notice how no scenario exists where a heroin user neither produced or had been supplied heroin. A crime was definitely committed so it's inappropriate to not give him at least the lower charge (aiding and abetting).

With zero proof of production or a sale, an aiding and abetting charge will not stick.

By denying one they implicitly confess to the other as no other circumstance exists. We know that heroin was aquired as they had/used it so they would be aware which one they did. They're a key witness in their own crimes.

Well worded false dichotomy but it's hardly conclusive.

Keebs, you are just being dense at this point. Kyuubi broke it down in the most easy-to-understand way possible.

A person who used heroin either:

A. produced the heroin themselves. (Illegal)
B. bought it from a dealer. (Illegal)
C. stumbled upon it in the god damn woods and chose to use it. (stupid and illegal)

All I'm saying is that cops should question known heroin users. Find out how they got the heroin they used. Investigate. Find the dealer. Arrest the dealer. Because the user clearly knows how they got their heroin....and by choosing NOT to tell the cops....they are committing a crime by either covering their own ass who made the heroin, or the dealer who supplied them.

Either way, I grow tired of druggies getting a pity party.....when what should REALLY be happening, is someone's ass goes to jail.

It's only "complicated" when the media focuses on the emotional aspect of it all. And Hollywood's romanticism of drug-use doesn't help.

Hunt the dealers down. Make them pay.

So let me get this straight:

Selling, purchasing, and possessing hard drugs like cocaine and heroin is illegal, yes?

But just having them in your system and being addicted is perfectly legal and you can seek treatment and not have to fear legal repercussions, yes?

So if a person who has drugs in their system can't be arrested.............why in the hell can't the police interrogate these people and demand to know where they got their drugs from in the first place?

Demand the identity and location of their dealers. Go to the source. Arrest the bastard. Because while the "victim" might be seeking rehab and can't be arrested.....the DEALER is the one breaking the law.

Can't cops do that? There should be cops at every rehab clinic, interviewing everyone. Doing investigations. Setting up stings.

And if the addicts refuse to give up their dealers........then they are aiding and abetting criminals, which IS an arrestable offense.

These pathetic addicts don't get to walk free unless the dealers go down.

I thought they went to prison for possession, not usage.

You have to posses it to use it. It's not like it magically appears in their veins.

Let's put it this way: You use heroin, you OD, the people with you get rid of all the heroin and paraphernalia before the authorities show up, what happens?

What's the legal charge?

Well, what I'm wondering is.....Demi Lovato admitted to being addicted to heroin. And she has even gone to rehab.

Now, I'm not a wealthy celebrity....I actually live in the real world.....so I'm not sure exactly how this works.

Upon admitting her problem, were the authorities involved in any way? Can you just walk into a rehab clinic with no questions asked? Can the police walk into rehab clinics and ask people questions about the drugs they took, where they got them? What is the name and address of their dealers, etc?

Because, the way I see it, being a rational human being.........if cops did that, and people REFUSED to cooperate, they'd be aiding and abetting.

Has anyone even asked where Demi Lovato was getting her heroin from? Because I don't think anyone has asked that. And I find that pretty strange.

Lawyers and Money

Correct. In other words: the system is flawed and we can't fix it unless we talk about it.

The media should be jumping all over this aspect of the story.

...THEY GO TO PRISON!!!

Why isn't the media talking about THAT?

You know, the bigger and more important issue around the Demi Lovato story?

It's always bothered me how we just overlook this kinda stuff. If we are supposed to feel sorry for Demi Lovato....is she going to cooperate with authorities and tell us where she was getting her heroin from? Has anyone even asked her that yet? Who was her dealer? Has that dealer been arrested? Where is the source of the heroin making its way into California? Are the authorities actively taking action to shut it down? Because I don't think they are.

I just see headlines saying that she is addicted and how we all need to feel sorry for drug addicts. How even famous, wealthy, attractive celebrities can suffer from "depression". How we never know the true struggle in someone's heart and mind.

All this romanticism.

But completely overlooking the real issue.

Why isn't she in jail? Who was her dealer? Has there even been a criminal investigation of any kind? And, more importantly, why are you triggered by this topic? Because I'm sure some of you are now.

Race-baiting idiots.

Just like clockboy Ahmed.

Relying on the assumption of Islamophobia to win lawsuits based on total fabrications.

It's extremely racist.

There was that other little girl in Canada that claimed someone on a bus cut off her hijab with scissors. Ended up being a total lie the parents encouraged her to spread so the media would gain sympathy for all the Muslim immigrants saturating Canada.

If you have to lie about oppression you are experiencing.....what does that tell you?

They are hungry for victimhood, because they want special treatment.

Gotta love it.

Lawyers get a bad reputation, simply because you usually only see lawyers do what they do....when SOMEONE has broken the law.

If people would stop breaking the law, lawyers would no longer serve a purpose.

They are a necessary profession.

It also doesn't help that the laws are constantly changing, and are complicated as all hell....so some people need to hire a lawyer to sort through the fine print. And they won't do it for free.....because why would anyone want to work for nothing?

For every ONE lawyer that defends a monster who is 100% guilty.................there are a THOUSAND lawyers out there defending innocent people who refuse to be victimized by the convoluted legal system.

*shrugs*

I think some people just watch too many Hollywood movies and instantly assume ALL lawyers are corrupt.

Personally, I've actually noticed that cops and politicians are waaaaay worse than lawyers. There's something very suspicious about cops getting angry when someone hires a lawyer. Because they hate seeing citizens exercise their rights. They hate knowing a lawyer understands the law and won't lie to the person that hired them. Cops can and often DO lie to people, in the attempts to have them incriminate themselves. It's very sick. Lawyers don't tolerate that shit.
