So I am pretty sure everyone in that audience bought a ticket to Governor's Comedy club specifically to see that set. Which means that audience is probably already feeling pretty charitable towards Louis and you're unlikely to have much pushback there.

Also, not his best work. He knows his audience here and plays it very safe and very light on the commentary. I'm sure he'll come back to himself as he gets more and more into the swing of things, but he's not going to win back the people who cancelled him with this material.

I don't think so, no. At that point he likely assumed Cap was another super type like Iron Man (since they'd been flying on the same quinjet) and durable enough to take some of the punishment he'd been throwing at Tony. As a reminder, Tony begins that fight by smashing him off a cliff and dragging the both of them through several trees. When you start a fight like that, all parties understand they don't need to pull their punches as much.

How does he get laughs? Like his whole thing is "wow I was a terrible person and people called me terrible".

At least part of the trick to stand-up is the awareness that the audience is there to have fun, and that so long as the atmosphere is harmonious, the audience exerts a social pressure on people to laugh.

I mean I'm two minutes into this clip Louis CK is talking about diarrhea and the person recording it can even wait for Louis CK to complete the set up before he starts laughing into his phone mic. He's made a decision to enjoy the comedy set.

It's not really my place to offer opinions on this.

I used to judge parents who did this, but I've decided not to be that kind of person anymore because I'm not a parent and I know I can't fully appreciate the chaos a child can get up to given the opportunity. Until we have reason to distrust the parent we can all trust that they know how best to take care of their own children and keep our unsolicited opinions in their place.

I don't know. The term 'person of color' refers to race, and race is more than just skin color, or having kinky hair, or whatever physical characteristics people usually cite here. It also refers to where and how they were raised, and how people in that context see and treat them.

A photo can't show me any of that, especially with how people be painting themselves orange these days.

Yeah. That's not to say it isn't possible. All Star Superman gets bandied around a lot as a book that really speaks to the heart of the character. I think that could be used as the basis for an excellent Superman movie.

Setting that aside. The movie is apparently a lot more lighthearted and funny than a lot of the other movies in the franchise. And they ditched that dark blue filter that hangs over all of the other movies.

Wonder Woman got praise for a lot of that too with the only complaint being the final moments of the movie when Snyder and his overly busy action sequence hijacked a perfectly good movie, and ruined the obvious conclusion to that movie where Ares reveals that he's not the movie's antagonist, but that mankinds' collective Thanatos is the reason for the conflict.

Ras maybe. But for Harvey there was a big to do about trying to talk him down and save his 'damaged soul.' Batman acts because he's about to murder a child. And even then the attempt is pretty messy since he tackles him off a building and easily could have died with him if not for his apparent plot armor.

From a plot standpoint it's nothing all that special. There aren't a lot of twists and turns, and in some ways the trailer totally spoiled things. Seeing two Black Panthers in the trailers kind of reveal a lot of key details that might have surprised viewers. For example, the fact that Erik has a legit reason to be in Wakanda and has some kind of relation to the royal family, is strongly implied by the trailers, even if its not explicitly spelled out. As a result an attentive viewer of the trailer already knows there's some kind of royal succession plot at play here for the crown. So when you see it happen you're not all that surprised. Probably the strongest feeling the audience experience is scene where Erik sees his father, and you get why he's so angry.

Also yes, the fights aren't that exciting. Frankly, that's whatever for me.

The setting design, the clothes, casting, the music, and the fact all the fact that all of it means something, and then there's all the little details showing several forms of African cultural expression, or the clothes and colors denoting specific tribal references. So much thought and talent went into all of that.

It's like someone told all of Black Hollywood that they have one shot to collectively snatch the trophy and they fucking snapped.

Look up some of the search term frequencies of pron sites. A lot of sites gather data on their users' searches and browsing habits and give it to math nerds who want to study modern human sexuality through big data (I love the idea of this, BTW. It seems so much more honest than doing personal surveys were we edit ourselves in accordance to what we think the interviewer wants to see). You could probably just good the phrase 'porn search terms data,' and you'll come across several articles and/or books on the topic of kink frequencies by gender, country, state, etc. What you'll find is that everyone is quite kinky, and that their kinks are diverse and surprising.

I felt this for older titles that I missed several years ago and am now revisiting, where if you bring it up in a room everyone assumes you played back when it was new and just want to talk. As a result the first thing out of their mouth is a spoiler.

I've been that guy. Someone brings up Spec Ops the Line, and I go straight to the white phosphorous scene, the ending, or the clear and constant references to Heart of Darkness. Every one of those conversations is a major spoiler for that game.

Really it's not just games. Try talking in depth about Game of Thrones without spoiling the events of the first season, or Harry Potter without spoiling the events of the third, fourth, fifth, and especially the sixth book. Or even more recently, Avengers: IW. You'll be tiptoeing around what is basically the point behind all of these properties.

Salt should be used as an ingredient in cooking first, because if you season properly during the food prep/cooking you won't need it as a condiment later. Salt is kind of a super hero, she kind of does everything.

Proper use of salt in food prep makes pre-seasoned meats retain moisture on the inside better and brown faster on the outside (yay!), and using salted water when blanching or even boiling vegetables keeps them from wilting and losing color (marvelous!).

Normally adding salt and yeast to flour and water is a surefire way to kill your bread yeast before it even activates and make sure your dough never rises (a perfect waste of flour and water). However, adding a small amount of salt to bread dough after autolyzing the flour with the water and activating the yeast allows you to slow the rate at which the yeast eats the sugars in the bread dough allowing you to stretch out a 2-4 hour bulk fermentation phase for your dough for up to eighteen hours (!) without killing the yeast. All this allows more complex flavors to develop in your dough. If you've ever bought a artisanal loaf/baguette from a bakery that completely blew you away there's a good chance they're adding salt to their dough and using this technique to get that result.

So salt really is that bitch. She's got her hands in most everything we love. Bow down.

I actually really liked the idea of a blue collar black family making moves in Chicago and the show not kind of leaning into stereotypes about low income black people like some of it's predecessors. If shows like the Cosby show and later the Fresh Prince of BelAir were early attempts to capture the idea of black affluence on television, Family Matters kind of brought it down to something closer to our level by showing a family where both parents worked but they were also making it. I don't think the show needed an Urkell like comic relief character, but didn't actually grow to dislike that character until he kind of started choking the life out of the rest of the show.

The confusion here seems to center on the word 'primate' itself, which is just a name for a subcategory of animals under the family of mammals.

The designation 'primate' includes several subcategories of animals and is at least one stage removed from the category of species, which is where we start describing specific animals like humans, or orangutans, or mandrills.

And evolution does describe genetic change over a significant time span. But just because members of a particular species evolve, doesn't mean that other members of that species won't go on living and/or potentially evolving parallel to the newly genetically divergent species.

It's why we want to be specific with our language when we say, for example, that 'humans and other other great apes share a common genetic ancestor' instead of 'humans came from X.'

Did you miss the whole part of the movie where they outright say that following tradition isn't exactly always a good thing?

Not only that, tribal rivalries still exist within Wakanda, and if a tribe sees an opportunity they can and will challenge for the throne. Even Wakanda is far from perfect.
