Jaguars - As mentioned in the award nominees, the Jags have the league's top playmaking defense being 2nd in sacks and tied for 4th in both INTs and FRs. However, their overall body of work of defense is concerning as they have slipped to 18th on defense thanks to a porous run D that has allowed the third-most yards in the league. Every other AFC playoff member is in the top half of the league in rushing, so that will be something they will have to work hard at three times if they wish to make the Super Bowl. That being said, the playmaking and great pass D (7th in league) could help mask their other defensive deficiencies to where their under-the-radar offense (8th) takes care of the rest.

Rams - The Rams started 1-6 despite owning the league's #1 D and finished 9-7 and a NFC West crown. This unprecedented turnaround seemed to elicit no response from the rest of the league, but the Rams can win the Super Bowl. As great as that D is, the offense is flawed. They have the weakest rushing attack in terms of yardage (28th) among playoff teams and maybe efficiency (not going to calculate it). A major reason as to why a more prolific and efficient running attack is a far better indicator of success than passing in the game is because the turnover rates of passing-centric teams is night-and-day worse. The Rams own the worst turnover differential among playoff teams (-8) thanks to 18 INTs thrown while they have lost the third fewest fumbles among playoff teams (8). If they can win the turnover battle in every game, and the ground game gives them something, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the NFC Championship Game.

Pumpkins - Among the teams who had their first playoff appearance in the past six or so seasons, the Pumpkins stand to have one of the best opportunities to not be one-and-done like the rest of them. For starters, they just trounced the Buccaneers in Week 17. Secondly, they play against a team with a -5 turnover differential while they own a league-best +17 TD. Thirdly, they have performed like the better team this season, edging out the Bucs in nearly every major category (T-11 vs 17 O, T-14 vs 16 D, 9 vs 11 points per game, 5 vs 20 points allowed per game, and as mentioned previously, 1 vs 24 turnover differential). The Pumpkins should be the favorites, but given how much better home teams have fared in the past five or so postseasons, I have my reservations.

Buccaneers - The most maddeningly inconsistent team in our playoff field, the Bucs three wins by 20+ points and three losses by 20+ points this season. That's nearly half of their games! I just have no idea what version of the Bucs we will be getting, but they at least have a decent history of dominance this season. You can see the stat breakdowns in the Pumpkins writeup, but the Bucs are pretty average across the board with the exception of the turnover differential. They don't exactly match up well against anybody, but Chris has one of the best postseason records among all users, so it is hard to discount him and the Bucs.

Ravens - Perhaps the Ravens have what it takes to be the Raiders of last year and come away with victories in multiple games in which they were overmatched. The Ravens were able to get their defense to a respectible T-13th finish by the season's end, but this isn't the stout Baltimore defenses of old. The offense has started to come along after a plodding start, but Doug Martin has really tailed off after a hot first half start. Out of his 12 total TDs on the season, I believe only two came after Week 8. Big Ben has picked up the slack, but as I mentioned earlier in the season, there just hasn't been a game where both Martin and Ben are bringing their A game. If that continues, I just don't see them making a Super Bowl run.

Playoff Power Rankings

Cowboys - They have by far the easiest road to Super Bowl by virtue of playing in the easier conference and not having to play themselves. Also, they are statistically the best team in the league with the #1 offense, #1 defense, #1 in points per game, #12 in points allowed per game, #2 in point differential, #8 in giveaways, T-7 in takeaways, and T-2 in turnover differential. A sixth-straight SB appearance seems eminent.

Raiders - The Raiders, the S11 playoff team that B8 deemed to have the most work to do to make the playoffs this season, destroyed their opponents this season. They own the #5 offense, #3 defense, are #3 in points per game, #2 in points allowed per game, are T-3 in fewest giveaways, and are T-2 in turnover differential. The Raiders have an argument over the Hawks and Dolphins as to who owns the most balanced offense. They are the team in the league that is the closest to being called flawless, and it would be a travesty if they were to be eliminated in their first game.

Hawks - The Hawks are not far off from the Raiders. They are #2 on offense, #5 on defense, #4 in points per game, #1 in points allowed per game, #7 in fewest giveaways, and #4 in turnover differential. They have had arguably the league's best QB and HB this season, but they will have to play one extra game and on the road if they wish to make the Super Bowl over the likes of the Raiders and Dolphins.

Vikings - Yes, the season-ending injuries to two MVP candidates (at the time) were crushing, but this is a deep roster, and while they will skip a beat, it won't be enough to where they are doomed from the start. They are still the #2 team in the NFC with the #3 offense, #8 defense, #10 points per game, and T-13 points allowed. They cut back on their turnover issues that plagued them in the first half, but it will still likely be their undoing if they fall to anyone that isn't the Cowboys in the playoffs. They do have a tough test in their first game against the Rams, but unless the Pumpkins beat the Bucs, I think the Vikings have great odds to make their first NFC Championship Game and possibly do what the likes of the Falcons, Buccaneers, Rams, and Seahawks have failed to do and defeat the Cowboys in the decisive conference matchup.

Dolphins - The Dolphins are statistically a better team than the Vikings, have finally have returned most of their injured OL, and have the luxury of a first round bye, but I can't place them higher than the Vikings. What the Vikings have in disadvantages from having to be a Wild Card team is offset by the fact they are the clear second-best team in the NFC. The Dolphins are not only third, but a Jaguars team that is so sack heavy might have a field day with such a young and injury-prone OL. If all things break right, the Dolphins might be the best team in the AFC based on talent alone, and it isn't as if they didn't perform up to it (#4 offense, #2 defense, #2 points per game, #4 points allowed per game, #6 turnover differential), but the 54th straight season of Dolphins retooling their roster might be their most-flawed product in many seasons.

Packers - The Dolphins ended the line of elite teams, but the Packers do not begin the line of the next tier of teams. Both their offense and defense sit outside the Top 10 (13th and 11th respectively), and the offense is still just as flawed and exploitable as usual, but they cut back significantly on turnovers while still generating turnovers at a decent clip. The Packers also have a prime opportunity to not just win their first playoff game but make the Super Bowl. They need to win two games at home, and they're there! The worst-case scenario is those games being against the Vikings and Cowboys, but it sure as hell looks better than what the Patriots will have to deal with!

Next, for those who didn't see, I have usually run an annual special theme each year. I have done games to celebrate holidays, game anniversaries, and having users select games that failed to be drawn on a given month. In 2020, we will be doing a birthday theme where each interested user PMs me their birthday month. In the month before their birthday, said users will submit to me two games that follow the normal nomination rules (can't have been done before and can be acquired on its own), and the rest of the users will vote which game will be used to celebrate their birthday.

This will replace one of the drawings, but users have control over what gets chosen at least. If two users have the same birthday month, which I just found out someone else has a January birthday, we will have two sets of voting and two games still drawn, bringing a total of four games for said month. If 3+ users have the same birthday, I will likely ask someone if they would be willing for me to feature them in another month or if push comes to shove, I will forcibly change how every many users I need to other months until only two are on a particular month.

I have my games ready, but because I want to introduce these votes together, I will hold off until I receive notice from the other user which games they are putting up. In the meantime, feel free to sign up for this event. As I said, all I need for you to do right now is PM me your birthday month, and I will take care of things from there. Including me, six people have signed up thus far.

I still have one Steam key for Super Cloudbuilt for anyone who intends to make the effort to beat it this month and will also add to or start any discuss of the game and/or their progress through it.

Also, Guacamelee 2 is part of the Steam Remote Play Together feature where people can play local co-op games online through that feature. Both Lolo and myself have expressed interest in doing the co-op campaign together, and the game supports up to four players, so we are welcome to adding more. Only one person has to own the game, and both Lolo and myself do own it, so there would be no need for anyone else to buy it if they wish.

I have yet to test out the basics of SRPT, but it shouldn't be complicated. I think it is simple as the host starting the game and inviting people through a special menu and the rest accepting the invite. I know it is still in beta or still having its kinks work out, so there could be some technical issues here and there, but ultimately I am not concerned with that. My only concern is voice chat for those who would be willing to do so. To be safe, I suggest we use one of the voice chats in our Discord channel instead of using the in-game one for Guacamelee 2 based on past experience that I have had with co-op Steam game voice chats.

What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will usually feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually around a week before the end of the month
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for every chosen game that you beat
- Each game you nominate has to be unique from all other nominations and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a chosen game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month

I plan to do the live award show later than evening (7 or 8 ET), and then the playoffs at around 9 ET.

The date is subject to change to the 20th, in which case the deadline would be extended to then, though I am shooting for the 13th as of right now.

General Manager of the Year

Jukkie
+ Improved win total by eight (2 to 10) from a season ago and made the playoffs
+ Signed and started QB Logan Thomas who was not only by far the lowest-rated starting QB and lowest since Ryan Fitzpatrick in S2 for the then Eagles, the 5th round pick from a season ago by the Wildcats finished with a higher passer rating than four former 1st round picks and two 2nds

- In-depth look at stats do not paint a pretty picture with the 26th ranked offense and negative turnover and point differentials

prof
+ First non-losing record since S6
+ Adjustments made in season helped the Wildcats lead the league in fewest giveaways (15)

- Did not make the playoffs

Shonen
+ Led the Pumpkins to their first playoff appearance in franchise history and swept the Cowboys in the regular season
+ Signed MLB Preston Stephens as an injury replacement, and he provided 6 sacks + FFs + FRs in as many games

- Had good collective performances from rookie class, but they weren't responsible for selecting any of them

Sultan
+ Reclaimed the AFC South on the heels of the 7th ranked pass D that included four rookies
+ Defense was second in the NFL in sacks (55), 4th in INTs (22), and T-4th in FRs (16)

- Draft strategy contained an oversight, so commissioner discretion was used, calling into question how much credit the immediate dividends from the rookie class goes to the GM.

Tangicide
+ Most wins by a user this season (12) en route to homefield advantage in the NFC
+ Signed 30-year-old WR Mohamed Massaquoi in free agency, and he had more rec yards (607) than the other WRs on the team had combined (530)

- Had one of the league's easiest schedules, and went 4-4 against teams with non-losing records

Comeback Player of the Year

Dolphins DE Calais Campbell

One of the steadiest DEs in the league, he had an unproductive (1 sack), injury shortened season in S11. With a bunch a pair of 2nd-round DEs nipping at his heels and Travis Johnson shooing away Father Time once again, Campbell was the lone Dolphin to record double digit sacks (10) and chipped in a pair of FFs.

Ravens WR Calvin Johnson

The Ravens selected him in the Top 5 back in greengravy's lone season (S3). Being in a Baltimore run-centric offense, he didn't really have a chance to shine (career highs of 774 yards and 6 TDs in separate seasons), and after suffering a season-ending injury in the S11 preseason, one had to wonder if the Ravens would trade the 32-year-old and his $8.54 mil salary to a team in need of WR help. They stuck with him, and he rewarded them with by far his finest season tied for the league lead in receptions (88), just shy of 1000 yards (990), and 10 TDs.

Lightning G Kelechi Osemele

The Lightning gave up an upper-teens pick in the first round in S11 to sign Osemele as a RFA. His first season in Anaheim was a complete disaster as as he tied for the league lead in sacks allowed (19) with just 36 blocks. With another season under his belt and a better supporting cast, he was able to trim that sub-2:1 block sack ratio into nearly 20:1 with 56 blocks against 3 sacks allowed, helping a 31-year-old journeyman HB become the league's second-leading rusher.

Giants MLB Barrett Ruud

A fantasy draft pick of the Giants, Ruud lost all of last season due to injury and was going to shipped out of town this past offseason until the trading partner backed out. The Giants rewarded Ruud with what should be his final contract, and he ultimately provided the second most tackles in his career (137, 5th in the league) and three sacks + FFs + FRs to show that he is still part of the Giants' (immediate) future.

Redskins HB Terrence Whitehead

Speaking of journeymen, Whitehead is the poster child for it in B8NFLL having played for nine teams in his 11 seasons in the league. His only 1000 yard rushing season coming into the season had been as a rookie in Pittsburgh in S2. At 33 and with a low-80s rating, it appeared that his rookie season was going to be his most productive. An unfortunate season-ending injury to Markus Manson in Week 5 was a great opportunity for Whitehead. He finished with 1023 rushing yards and the second-most receiving yards by a HB (457) to finish with 1480 total yards, a career high in what may be his final season.

Breakout Player of the Year

Raiders QB Andy Dalton

A second round pick of the Raiders in S8, he was tossed in and out of the lineup throughout his career as a backup to the likes of A.J. Feely, Tavaris Jackson, and Kirby Freeman before becoming the unquestioned starter this season. He responded by increasing his passer rating for the fifth season in a row, exploding all the way to 8th in the league at 84.1 with career bests in passing yards (2698, 1726 previous best), passing TDs (19, 9 previous best) and completion % (61.8).

Lightning HB Kestahn Moore

Fenny's final first round pick he made himself was Moore. After backing up Larry Johnson and Romance Taylor, he bounced around the league for a few seasons before landing his first starting gig in Anaheim this season at the age of 31. He didn't start until Week 3, but he ultimately finished second in the league in rushing yards (1571), tied for second in receptions out of the backfield (50), and third in receiving yards out of the backfield (426). All three figures account for more than half of his career totals up this point.

Seahawks OT Reilly Reiff

A Top-10 pick of the Seahawks back in S10, his rookie season was wiped out due to injury, and he played sparingly in his sophomore season. Being named the starter in his third season after former RT Ryan Diem went to a division rival in the Rams. Reiff showed why we was the first OL taken in the draft by recording the third-most blocks in the league (74) while allowing just six sacks.

Colts DT Dan Williams

The Colts already had an incumbent in Ian Scott, a former franchise draft pick of theirs who had started 157 games in the previous 11 seasons for the team, accruing 82 sacks in the process. When the former third rounder Williams won the starting spot opposite Darnell Dockett instead of Scott, he had large shoes to fill. He responded with the first double-digit sack season by a Colts DT in three seasons and was the only one to record a FF or FR (3 total).

Lions MLB Bryan Vinson

A former 6th round pick of the 49ers, he was an immediate starter in the league, but he was never "the guy." He always had Korey Norton and Rolando McClain next to him in a 3-4 D. After an offseason trade to a 4-3 D in the Lions, he was not just "the guy" because there were no other starting MLBs, he was the guy because the Lions D was undergoing a huge rebuilding project and had a lot of young, unproven players that needed Vinson to step up even more. While the Lions D didn't exactly make a big step forward, Vinson certainly did to the tune of a 177 tackle (2nd best in league, 88 more than his previous best), multiple sacks and INTs, and more than doubling his FF total entering the season (3 career before, 4 this season).

End-of-Season Season Awards

The following posts will contain all the awards that will be given out this season. While participation is optional, I encourage you to take 15 minutes or so out of your life to pick out your choices for each category and submit them to me via PM before the deadline.

Most of the awards are from the game itself. There are a few that are entirely of my creation. The former awards will have both a User and Madden winner while the later will solely have a User winner. The nominees for awards from the game will come from the game itself with maybe a handful of exceptions. To not spoil who Madden chose for each award, I will reveal who was a replacement choice when the winners are revealed. Also to prevent spoilers, I reorder the nominees by team name, first name, or last name every year. This year, I chose last name.

For each category, you choose the one player/coach/person you believe to be most worthy of the award. For the Offensive Player, Defensive Player, and MVP of the Year, awards, you do not have to vote for the five players listed. If you feel another player up for another award is applicable and more worthy for one of these awards, you may select them as a write-in candidate. However, I will use my discretion to null a write-in vote if I feel it to be disingenuous.

The AFC West are the third division to have three double-digit win teams (Raiders, Hawks, and Broncos) in a season and first since both the AFC North (Ravens, Browns, and Steelers) and NFC South (Falcons, Buccaneers, Panthers) accomplished this feat in S7.

The NFC East became the third division to have all of its members record a .500 or better season. Coincidentally, the NFC East first accomplished this in S5 while the AFC East did so in S9.
