Yeah, you can use external drives with PS4, XBO, 360 and Wii U. Switch is limited to SD cards, PS3 didn't support externals, but you can use an internal drive up to 1TB.

This is why it makes no sense to go all digital. You're either buying discs or external HDD's. Tell me which one is actually messier. But when it comes to free games you can't rule out digital completely.

I have physical games. However, I'm buying them more than a decade after the system was released. I'm dealing with used copies, and a lot of people didn't look after them. I have a stack of games with the circular scratches that people had no problem selling online. None of them can finish a disc install. I also have to deal with limited space to store the physical games. The shelf I'm using can fit in maybe 5 - 6 more cases.

As for prices, I got digital games when they are cheap or free. Shipping alone means I wouldn't get games for $2 - $3 like I got most of my digital purchases. My most expensive digital purchase for 360 was NZ$9 for The Witcher 2, and I can't get a physical copy for that one for anywhere near that low.

You could delete some.

Downloading the games later can be annoying, and Microsoft doesn't make it easy. Some older games that were free a few years ago didn't show up in my system download list. And the download list on this system isn't great in the first place. Wish it could work similar to the PS4 download list. Still beats my PS3, if only because I have so many fucking items to scroll through there. But they at least have dates on everything in the list, so I can just check emails for the date needed.

I use disc installs. Things go faster and it is less stress for the system. I had two older models before this one and reducing issues in any way possible was worth it.

Honestly at least with 360 physical makes a difference.

Had to get a hard drive and attach to PS4 just to be able to play our PHYSICAL GAMES without always deleting and installing games.

Having a 1TB hard drive attached to PS4 isn't bad, so I'd imagine 360 wouldn't be too bad either?

Couldn't play anywhere near that library on our PS4 even if we did have physical games without swapping or external hard drive. That feels like a lot of games to me lol.

I use disc install with 360 games. Very useful feature, wish PS3 allowed disc installs as well.

And systems like PS4 / XBO have a good reason, disc read speeds aren't nearly as fast compared to hard drive read speeds. People wanting the best performance possible means disc installs happen.

Also, my PS4 had about 60 games installed at one point, and it only has a 500GB drive. :P

Those were either free games, Gold free games or just cheaper than buying a used copy. Oh, and the Gears of War series, I traded away some Steam keys for keys from some pack that included them.

I never install mods but considering how terrible Bethesda is at fixing games this might be the only mod I ever get.

Just be aware it will disable trophies / achievements. They do that with all the free mods, gotta make people want to pay for mods, after all.

I was gifted it on PC before it released, but my system at the time sucked more than expected, had trouble running it. Later got to play it after upgrading, but never got far before being distracted by other games. Funny thing is that I get further in such games on console. :P

At least I got Fallout 4 cheap. Biggest problem is finding someone without it. Two family members own it, and the sister with kids doesn't want it for them. Know a couple of friends, waiting to hear if they have it yet.

When I first bought Fallout 3 and Borderlands for my 360, I too got bored quickly, I honestly had a hard time getting into it compared to Brotherhood of Steel on PS2 (I loved the games using that engine, sorry guys). Another attempt later, I got into the game and spent dozens of hours playing it and New Vegas.

To avoid already named games, maybe Dragon Quest Builders is worth a look. A decent bit of landscape to explore though regions are split between chapters. There is also a second game but haven't tried it myself. Demo is available.

Dying Light could be fun, zombies and parkour open world.

Lego City Undercover is actually rather enjoyable, own it on PS4 and Wii U myself.

You can still download it for PC, PS3, 360 and Android. Unsure about Nintendo, Apple and Windows Phone. Just the store page is removed.
