Going forward, all future loans should be dis-chargeable in bankruptcy, like they used to be. That will mean the amounts a student can get will be much lower. That's hardly a bad thing.

The reason why you can take out very high student loans is because plenty of capable students aren't born in to money. What you're proposing is further increasing wealth divides.

It's a cycle.
Everyone can get loans, for absurd amounts.
More people go to college, even the ones who really shouldn't or don't need to.
More demand and a nigh limitless amount of debt credit from the prospective students lets colleges jack up prices.
Students have to take out more and more to cover the costs of the ballooning price of college.
And then...the amounts of debt are so fucking staggering that even if the student "does everything right" and gets a good paying job, s/he can be in debt for decades.

It's odd you cloak yourself in the mantle of not wanting to increase wealth divides...

So basically you don't mind bankrupting the entire university system along with multiple major lenders and triggering a national recession? Wow, that's evil!

The current loans, which were given out under the assumption that they couldn't be escaped via bankruptcy, should remain that way.

Going forward, all future loans should be dis-chargeable in bankruptcy, like they used to be. That will mean the amounts a student can get will be much lower. That's hardly a bad thing.
Obscene loan amounts with no basis of a student being capable of paying it back is a root cause of the current problems.

No.

I'd be ok with some moderate forms of relief. Like letting people refinance their loans to a lower interest rate. Maybe reducing the interest owed in return for some length of community service or something. But the principle definitely has to be repaid in full. Not giving literal handouts to those who made poor financial decisions.

But I have faith in their ideas never passing Congress so long as Republicans have enough Senators to filibuster the bill, so I'm willing to overlook my disagreement on that issue and vote for them anyway. I'm fine w/ their opening position being the extreme left (free college) and Republicans' continuing to hold an extreme right view (doing nothing...actually...cutting Pell grants and such so worse than doing nothing), and that leading to some sort of compromise in the middle.

In the first pic you look like a 40 year old trapped in the body of a 14 year old. It's just weird...like the head is slightly too large for the body, and the haircut makes you look older.

He found that people with high intelligence are likelier to be night owls. This applied across a wide span of demographic variables, such as ethnicity, education and religion. As Kanazawa explains it, sleeping late at night was rare back in our ancestors day, making it evolutionarily novel.

Evolutionarily novel is a good thing, as his research suggests that intelligent people are more likely to adapt such behaviors.

People tend to think night owls are unproductive creatures, since they sleep in while the early birds are already sitting at their desks. A 2009 study, however, shows that the opposite is true.

Researchers at the University of Liege in Belgium monitored 15 extreme night owls and 16 extreme early birds in a lab. The volunteers had their brain activity measured an hour and a half after waking up, and again 10.5 hours after waking up.

In the morning test, the early birds and the night owls performed nearly the same in their responsiveness. But there was a gap 10.5 hours later: the night owls showed faster reaction times and were more awake than the early birds.

I feel like Yang especially is just not getting a fair shake

Its a shame because even if universal basic income is something our country decides is not a good path, with the exponential increase in automation its a conversation we need to have but arent

Well before i heard of Yang, I was talking to friends about how the tax code should be changed. Get rid of ALL the loopholes and breaks. Raise the corporate tax rate. Tax based on the point of sale, not the "country the company claims it resides in."
But...provide tax breaks for companies based on how many employees they have that are legal residents of (and working in) the U.S. compared in a ratio to their annual profits. Doesn't matter if a company is earning tons of money w/ few U.S. employees because of outsourcing (whether to China, India, Mexico, whatever), abuse of illegal immigration, automation, whatever... If the company has huge profits off sales to the U.S. but isn't employing many people here...they get to eat a giant fucking tax bill!
(I'd also be open to a tax break for companies w/ a small ratio between the highest paid employees and the lowest paid...which encourages using temp agencies to fill low wage jobs, but then the company has less employees to count towards the first tax break, so...balances out?)

Then at least there's some aid for a company that wants to try and hire people even if it'd save more money to automate. We'll never be able to make it more lucrative to use people over AI, but we can at least staunch the transition a bit, and set up the concept of multi billion dollar companies w/ few employees paying huge taxes for going that route. Then as more companies opt for that route and the tax money rolls in, it can be used to fund a Universal Basic Income.

That's my idea...

I guess that's the best depiction of how I feel, too.

Even as earlier as like 12 years old, I'd think about one day just ceasing to exist, and it'd terrify me, I'd just feel this cold, gaping emptiness inside.

Even now, all I can do is distract myself from thinking about it. I need to take better care of myself, but I do exercise, and honestly staying youthful and healthy and living as long as possible is the main motivation. I'm agnostic, but I'm not against the idea of a heaven existing...I'd really love it to be true, in fact! But there just doesn't seem to be any rational way it could be true, and I don't have much in the way of blind faith (hence being agnostic).

I really want to see some people braver/more desperate than me try out shit like human cloning and...I saw once about a guy trying to do a brain transfer into another body...
Just see how that stuff turns out, have some better idea about what gives a person their sense of self, retention of memories, etc... Likewise with the even more out-there sci fi stuff w/ the human mind uploading to a computer or such, but that seems even more implausible, and no longer having a biological body would be eerie/depressing.

I remember a story about nurses in hospices and the things the dying patients would tell them, and the most unanimous thing they all said was missing the full use and health of their bodies. Treasure your body...take good care of it. Keep it functioning as long as you possibly can. Sadly you only get the one.

I don't even hear Yang brought up on news outlets. But yeah, Tulsi is almost always only mentioned in order to tear her down or criticize her, I've definitely noticed this.
I like both of them a lot, probably my favorites running along w/ Warren (who's probably only escaped their treatment because she's too well known to simply be character assassinated and discarded), and sadly it's not surprising that the powerful news groups seem to see them as a threat to be eliminated.

I've liked Gabbard since the 2016 election. She had a golden trail laid out for her to ascend the hierarchy of the Democratic party, being the DNC vice chair at such a young age and considered by many to be a "rising star." She was willing to throw away that easy ladder of success to vacate her position and be vocal about how the DNC was heavily biased against Bernie Sanders, angering the party leadership and almost certainly the reason she gets this treatment now.
Sanders/Gabbard would've been an amazing ticket in 2016, they basically cover each others' weaknesses perfectly, and 4-8 years experience as VP would help the young Gabbard rapidly obtain the experience to silence any critiques about her being too young/new to politics to be president.

Unregulated capitalism will always lead to these situations. Money accumulates when allowed to. The more you have, the more you can buy out, and the more you buy out the more you control. The problem is we don't tax the high incomes nearly enough, and our regulatory system has been utterly destroyed. There used to be this thing called anti-trust laws....technically they still exist, but haven't been updated in a century to keep up w/ new schemes and are never really enforced. We used to restrict companies from forming virtual monopolies. Now we not only allow the mergers and acquisitions to happen, we reward them for it by bailing them out of their own fuck ups because now they're "too big too fail" and them going down would cause a catastrophe. Gee, sounds like they never should've been allowed to grow that big! Nah, that's crazy talk!

Depends on if that CEO is reinvesting their income back into the company... which helps EVERYONE

Typical practice is to pay out dividends to the top brass who spend it on stock in the company, which means the stock owners still hold just as much wealth which they can cash out whenever, but the company keeps the profits without corporation tax.

So if the companies actually spend the profit, any stock owner can pull out their years of stock payout and just destroy the company so it operates with large amounts of unspent capital as insurance.

On a related note...
We all just treat corporate stock buy backs like it's some normal thing that's been the case for as long as there's been a stock market. About that...

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/10/investing/stocks-week-ahead-buybacks-mark-yusko/index.html

Veteran hedge fund manager Mark Yusko is deeply skeptical of the stock buyback boom set off by President Donald Trump's tax overhaul.
"I call it the tax deform bill. It was just a free handout to rich people who pay a lot of money to lobbies," Yusko, the founder and CEO of Morgan Creek Capital, told CNN Business.
Instead of using its tax savings to speed up the economy, Corporate America is just "buying back stock to stimulate their stock price," Yusko said from the sidelines of the Cayman Alternative Investment Summit.
Yusko noted that prior to 1982, share buybacks were outlawed by the SEC. "I think they should still be deemed insider trading and illegal," he said.

Share buybacks are a common practice where companies repurchase their own shares as a way to return excess capital. Buybacks boost demand for shares and artificially inflate per-share earnings.
US companies announced a record-shattering $1 trillion worth of share buybacks in 2018, the first full year since the tax law took effect, according to TrimTabs Investment Research.
After perking up in the first quarter of 2018, business investment on job-creating items like factories and equipment decelerated.

Like the repeal of the Glass-Stteagall Act, yet another case where a fairly recent change to financial laws opened up the floodgates of abuse, and where the solution to fix it is easy and blatantly staring us in the face.

best girl is Mistral from nights of azure

Damn I enjoyed that game! Didn't go in expecting much, but it was Dynasty Warriors combat + pokemon allies + boobs, so I figured it would at least be fun.

Great game, the story and characters were better than I thought they'd be and the music was behind only NieR Automata for me, this gen.

Mistral gave me a hell of a time, though, till I cheesed the fight w/ the 5th transformation you can unlock at that point....

The ones with their tits down to their belly buttons are fucking disgusting.

Bigger does not always equal better.

Agreed, but the latter half of them were pretty good, in general.
