Riki best just functions as every role at once, with strong DoT skills, a whole 'lotta health, and a pretty fast cooldown party heal art. You can make him more or less tanky depending on your aura use since he's not naturally as good at retaining aggro as Dunban/Reyn, but the healing role isn't that important in Xenoblade so Riki's fine just with his healing art. If you also got Shulk in the party you should be more than satisfying your healing needs.

Actually Fiora can be a pretty good tank with the proper skills (I think requiring her 4th skill tree to boost crit rate, plus linking Dunban's skill for healing on crits).

[up to ep 8] Vanya is honestly given a lot of reasons to react the way she does, from growing up left out from the others who could embrace their powers and writing the tell-all book that soured much of the family about her. Doesn't help that when the family gets back together, her siblings are still nowhere close to being over the book and continue to both ostracize and shelter her which just furthers her distance.

The most difficult part for Vanya being believable is just the incredible speed of her relationship with leonard. Still though that can be accepted with how important he is to the narrative, and they DO still at least provide a reason even for Vanya being so quickly swooned, not just her upbringing of insecurity but Allison jabs at her for being alone early in (which ends up into Allison investigating Vanya/Jenkins)

[full spoilers] While I'm at it about explaining Vanya's reactions, I also want to just add that I like how interpretive the Vanya imprisonment scene was. It's still a scene that greatly damages Luther for being a major d-bag, but the detail about Vanya not being able to hear the other siblings defending her, and then even Allison who COULD communicate by her notepad was still being blocked out by big-ass Luther so that the only thing Vanya could see was the whole family freaking out about her. Most shows would make that more explicit than it needs, so I just really enjoyed how the scene was largely focused from the active perspective outside the soundproofing yet still giving subtle visual cues to Vanya's perspective inside the soundproofing.

I love the whole Prison Island to Galahad Fortress section, the affect of Fiora still living is great on Shulk. Before he even fully understands it himself it just starts with the conflict of no longer seeing the Machina as lifeless machines he previously had no concern at all about killing like Xord. Goes well with the next arc humanizing machina further, even Fiora developing a new identify as one but supported by Shulk just being happy to have her back.

Yeah Mumkhar role was done as Shulk's changes to instead seeking to understand Egil... a role Mumkhar couldn't provide as he's just a legit vindictive evil asshole. (in a great way!)

I tried to cut Luthor some slack early in but by the end he definitely ran out. Was starting to drag on Allison a bit but she quickly leaped back into my good graces from and after the Vanya confrontation.

Diego was a bit love/hate, he has some of the problems of Luther with obsession over who's the "leader" but Diego's much more tolerable for at least interacting with the other members of the group. Worse problem for Diego tho is just some really obviously stupid decisions, namely every decision that got him arrested and even the way he handled the warning and subsequent arrest was dumb.

Luther is just all about himself and Allison, and even regarding Allison he doesn't at all listen to her on what matters and it all makes his Number One shtick worse and worse. When literally everyone is against him he just strong-arms them into basically ending the world out of stubborn ignorance.

random shops around the world contain a bunch of Intermediate books so just check the shops you find as you go

Advanced books are rare drops from gold chests by monsters later on (like level 60+ stuff), and also some quests (main and sides) give certain Advanced art books

btw speaking of gold chests, you can actually save your file before opening chest, and load to re-open the chest until it gives you something good.... pretty necessary if you're gonna be gunning for all the art books, as some of them have their highest drop rate by Unique monsters that only appear in some sidequests (one that immediately comes to mind with a bunch of art books is a giant ape and giant spider you fight in Tephra Cave for a late-game quest)

also helpful however for getting good equipment tho!

I'm always surprised how good Shulk AI is. Like you can in desperate need Warn him and tell him what to do during a vision, but he'll tend to like use Speed during a physical attack vision himself so. I also remember just watching him Shadow Eye and move around for all his positional attacks.

He's definitely the best AI, unlike Reyn who can't make good use of Magnum Charge (into Sword Drive, using Berserker), or Dunban turning himself around with Tempest Kick so that he can Daze people with Thunder (not really as significant as it sounds however)... or yeah of course Melia who basically has no clue at all what to do (what buffs to use)

also not counting Sharla because how could anything mess up controlling Sharla

honestly, you don't

maybe some specific unique monsters she can come in handy but really healing isn't so important and Shulk is honestly a perfectly sufficient "healer". Riki also has a really good fan heal if you really want one

for your second question, Riki can also function like a tank... he's a real all-arounder with heal/party-gauge boosting, painful DOT, and a shitload of health

honestly though I'm never concerned at filling certain roles, even for Shulk's sake Shadow Eye will deal with aggro

bump bot tweaked, note to self to go on lookout duty until it appears to be fine

also "10 day" periods will just be week long bump bots because whatever who cares about 3 days this is less effort for me

and it's just gonna go by the purge rates at the time of the bump check for all topics on the bump list, since that just means covering bumps that shouldn't be needed due to threshold changes, rather than the alternative of missing bumps that should be needed due to threshold changes

yeahhh i know a lot of these bump bot flaws, unfortunately a lot of it is the way it is for a reason -- moderation avoidance which bot was hit with in the past... although now that bot is so well known and normalized i'm not sure how much a concern that is anymore

although also variety beyond 'bump' is needed to avoid duplicate message posted errors, which lead to topics purging before too, although again that was back when bot only went through the list of topics every few hours rather than the current every hour check

anyhow i've tried to ease most of these issues by forcing bot to not pull posts from certain types of topics (topics titles with certain keywords or by vlado), and a character count limit to avoid long posts, which certainly lessened how bad it was initially but hard to really gauge and adjust how long is too long
