I like how everyone is saying no in here but would be far to chicken to actually join the military in the first place.

People forget that there's a difference between wanting to kill innocents and accidentally killing innocents in war...

War isn't nice, tough decisions have to be made and I'm thankful nobody here has the ability to surrender for us
I'm in the military. I've done my training, it's a pretty simple concept.

They'd probably do it by quota reseting at the fiscal year, and I imagine the Air Force would fill the fudge up fast.

To be honest the military doesn't really have the capacity to recruit and train *every* single person who turns 18. It would be a huge financial strain and would negatively impact readiness.

Hit me up on Steam - https://steamcommunity.com/id/hexenherz/

Also fun fact, they make a level 400,000 badge. Each badge takes 8 cards to craft, so that's 3,200,000 cards. Each card right now sells for 5 cents, which would mean if you wanted to have the ultrapremier elite badge you'd need to spend $160,000 on cards.

I wonder if anyone's done that.

Name a country with a comparable quality of life to the US that has mandatory military service.

I would be OK with mandatory public service of some kind (could include military, but could be extended to EMS/firefighting services or even just caretaking).

Hexenherz
01/01/20 7:02:58 AM

What They Got Partially Right

  • The populist backlash to globalization, but not in the West: The reports authors thought that charismatic, self-styled populist leaders playing on popular concerns over inequities between haves and have-nots would emerge as a potent political and social force in reaction to the dislocations of globalization. But they thought these figures would primarily arise in developing countries in Latin America and Asia, not in advanced democracies such as the United States and the United Kingdom.
  • The declaration of a caliphate, but not by a terrorist group: The analysts forecasted that al-Qaeda, the dominant jihadist group in 2004, would be eclipsed by more decentralized groups that used the internet to reach alienated young Muslims. They even posited one scenario that must have seemed outlandish at the time: the declaration of a new caliphate that gains traction online and in ungoverned spaces in the Muslim world, attracting pledges of allegiance from followers ranging from Olympic athletes to an American senators daughter. But the reports authors didnt foresee a terrorist group like ISIS establishing the Islamic stateinstead, they imagined it being founded by a young preacher moderate enough to elicit outreach from the pope.
  • The ascent of China and India, but not enough emphasis on China: Intelligence officials described the rapid rise of China and India as twin phenomena, noting that these developments would transform the geopolitical landscape in a manner reminiscent of the advent of a united Germany in the 19th century and a powerful United States in the early 20th century. The reports authors accurately forecasted the economic and population growth of both emerging powers, but they missed the fact that it would be Chinas rise far more than Indias that would define international affairs heading into 2020.

What they got wrong:

  • A clash between the U.S. and China over the political status of Taiwan: The intelligence officials sketched out one scenario involving a military confrontation between China and Taiwan over a Taiwanese proclamation of independence, which would likely draw in the United States as Taiwans top ally. That hasnt happenedwell, at least not yet.
  • The establishment of a Palestinian state: The report refers (if rather obscurely) to a sovereign state of Palestine, with Jerusalem as a city shared by Israelis and Palestinians. Such an outcome has arguably never seemed more remote than it does today, despite the fact that the Trump administration claims to still be working on a peace plan.
  • Russia as a down-and-out power: Intelligence officials didnt foresee the systematic challenge Russia would pose to the West, arguing that the countrys demographic and public-health challenges would limit the extent to which Russia can be a major global player. They failed to envision Russias interference in U.S. and European elections, and its invasion of Ukraine, noting that the prospect of Moscow reasserting control over former Soviet states seems improbable. The analysts did, however, recognize that Vladimir Putin was stoking nationalism, and that his successors would persist in tapping into nostalgia for Russias imperialist past. Imagine the authors surprise when they learned that Putin himself would still be the Russian leader carrying out this effort in 2020.
  • The inevitability of globalization: The studys authors recognized that catastrophic events such as a pandemic or major terrorist attack could slow or stop globalization, but they generally wrote about growing interconnectedness as irreversible. They characterized globalization as a force so ubiquitous that it will substantially shape all the other major trends in the world of 2020. At the onset of the new year, its clear that global interconnectedness is far more vulnerable to being reversed than U.S. intelligence officials thought a decade and a half ago.

What They Got Right

  • The unraveling of U.S. alliances: The fraying of Americas postWorld War II alliances is often attributed to Trumps rough treatment of traditional partners, but U.S. intelligence officials predicted the presidents underlying grievances. The reports authors wrote that a trend to bank on was dramatically altered alliances and relationships with Europe and Asia, as European allies prioritized the European Union over NATO and Asian allies adjusted to the rise of China and India. The intelligence analysts predicted that by 2020, the United States would have to calculate the acceptable cost of maintaining alliances with European, Asian, and Middle Eastern countries no longer united by a common threat as they were during the Cold War. Trumps answer has been that the current cost is way too high.
  • An ascendant America first movement: In one scenario in the report, a fictitious United Nations secretary-general writes in her diary in September 2020 that a lot of Americans are getting tired of playing the worlds policeman and shouldering the burden of securing allies, convinced that Pax Americana is a rotten deal. (Yes, her: The UN chief, along with the American president, are depicted as women. The latter would have come true in 2016 if not for the Electoral College.) The UN leader notes that she is struggling to keep the UN headquarters in New York in part because there are America Firster groups calling for the UNs removal. What the authors didnt expect is that the American president himself would be an America Firster.
  • The decline of international institutions: Foreshadowing the impotence of organizations such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organization in the face of climate change, trade wars, and other challenges, intelligence officials predicted that some of the institutions that are charged with managing global problems may be overwhelmed by them and that such post-World War II creations as the United Nations and the international financial institutions risk sliding into obsolescence unless they adapted to shifting global power dynamics. That adaptation never really happened.
  • The impulse to make America great again: Intelligence analysts rightly anticipated that while the United States would remain the worlds preeminent power in 2020, Americans would see their countrys influence diminish relative to emerging powers. In other words, they envisioned at least one dimension of the coming anxiety about making America great again, if not the slogan itself. In 2004, this observation about the relative diminution of the United States was considered one of the reports most heretical findings. As Fred Kaplan inquired in Slate after the study was released, Who will be the first politician brave enough to declare publicly that the United States is a declining power?
  • Escalating competition between the U.S. and China: American intelligence officials didnt envision the trade war or the Washington buzzword of great-power competition, but the reports authors predicted that rising nationalism in China and fears in the U.S. of China as an emerging strategic competitor could fuel an increasingly antagonistic relationship. And they presciently pointed to the ripple effects, noting that the United States would have to design a vision of security and order in Asia to rival Chinawhat Trump has sought to do with his Indo-Pacific Strategyand that countries such as Japan would feel compelled to choose between balancing against or bandwagoning with China. So far, Tokyo has picked balancing.
  • The North Korean nuclear crisis: Writing before North Korea tested its first nuclear weapon, intelligence officials foresaw that the crisis over North Korea would come to a head sometime over the next 15 years. They predicted that it would involve Pyongyang developing nuclear-capable missiles that could reach the United States well before 2020, deterring the U.S. from using military force against the country and prompting Americas allies in the region to consider developing their own nuclear weapons. These are the very factors that led Trump to first threaten war and then pivot to diplomacy with Kim Jong Un.

1) AC1 + AC2 trilogy + AC3 all have a connected and coherent modern day plot following Desmond. After that they kind of just fell apart (I can explain more if you want but yeah).

AC Origins has very minimal modern day story, following a new character. There's a lot of optional shit you can read through that references previous events/characters from previous AC games but honestly it doesn't even have any bearing at all on the story.

2) Some of the side quests do give you some cool stuff but after a while from what I remember they are more just for the cultural immersion aspect more than anything else.

Definitely get at least the Curse of the Pharaohs DLC, too, if you haven't yet. It plays out *after* the end of the main game but omg it has some of the most beautiful scenery in a game.

The other DLC takes place between the end of the game and Curse of the Pharaohs IIRC. At any rate, it's very short and pretty boring fan service that probably won't interest you if you don't care that much about the AC story.

Ok, it's an instant messaging app, like WhatsApp or Telegram.

Except in addition to one-on-one chats, you can also have group chats. And you can set up entire "servers" with multiple chat rooms and voice chat channels.

It's popular in the gaming community - you'll have a message channel where the leaders put out important updates or upcoming events, you'll have a general chat where people can talk about the game, you'll have an off-topic chat, and then you'll have voice chats for different groups to communicate easily without having to worry about in-game voice clarity or support.

Kerbal Space Program is also awesome. It's a sandbox game where you build your own space ships and complete missions (testing parts in the atmosphere, putting things into orbit, rescuing astronauts, exploring other planets). It is really difficult without mods imo but it is so rewarding when you complete these different milestones like making it into space or putting something into a stable orbit.

You might look into the Anno series.

Or Tropico (2, 4 and 6 are the only worthwhile ones imo); you play the role of a Caribbean island "president" and try to build an economy while juggling the needs of various political factions; or you just have a military and you throw everyone in jail or assassinate them.

And Transport Fever has good reviews, the second one also just came out.

Cities Skylines is the best city building game out there now.

Planet Coaster is the best theme park building game imo. It has very good tools for creating your own things from shops to coasters and everything in between. People have literally made entire cities and created James Bond movies on rides (well, they're 7 minute long rides that follow the plot of the movies, with animatronics and stuff). Many of the folks who worked on this worked on RCT.

Parkitect is a good theme park building game, too. It plays more like classic Rollercoaster Tycoon; it has an isometric view and simpler ride building mechanics, but it does have some cool management features that aren't in Planet Coaster.

Frontier (the Planet Coaster people) also made Jurassic World Evolution (basically, you build your own Jurassic Park) and recently released Planet Zoo (a zoo building and management game that is more indepth but somehow more easily accessible than Planet Coaster lol).

Yeah it would be a nice feature. TBH I thought it *did* automatically mention the person so they know they were being quoted.

maybe OP is expecting a package, but he's getting the wrong package, and it's going to his house (the wrong one) instead of the intended recipient.

Yeah, I think that's how it's supposed to be watched. There's no commentary about the dangers of technology here, and they never explain who made this product or why it caused her to kill, and the ending is ridiculously stupid, so it *has* to be that it's just all in her head and it's 2019 so a cellphone is an easy way to represent that.

It was a class of cadets and that was their class photo. So, that's a shitty way to end a career that never even had a chance to take off the ground.

That instructor, Byrd, needs to be barred from all government work in the future, too. Sounds like a total lying piece of shit.
