I guess I spoke too soon. Here we are with another user nomination. I gotta say Paul that I really enjoyed this nomination. I never heard the song before you submitted it to the ranking and it's got me bouncing my head a few times since then. Unfortunately the song is lyrically shallow even though the melody is fun. The message is tough to work out as well but I guess it's up to interpretation. I was a little surprised to see that this was an 80's song because it really sounds much more modern than that imo. Nothing much else to say due to unfamiliarity.

Did I ever say that I once had a crush on Rihanna? Well, I can't actually say I had a crush on her specifically but I did get excited over a few photos of her in bondage... *drools but um... oh yeah, the song. This is a decent Dance beat even though it isn't immediately catchy for me. The video shows kind of a weird side to Rihanna but I don't really find it disturbing. It's a little sexy at times but no more confusing than a lot of the Dance Pop videos that were surfacing in the late 00's. I remember this poll once somewhere where someone pitted Beyonce against Rihanna and Rihanna won by a landslide. It wasn't gamefaqs but might have been something I saw on my wife's facebook. I don't recall exactly where I saw it. Anyway, that's 5 new rankings for this block. Gonna try and get more done today since I am so far behind but that won't be until after I hit the gym and take the family swimming. It's already hot as hell out so it'll be nice to be in the water.

Meh... not so much of a Shawn Mendes fan here tbh. I think he's got ok vocals but I don't really feel drawn to his vocal technique. I actually kinda thought that this guy and the Hozier dude were the same but clearly they are not. If you are a Shawn Mendes fan you might be pleased that there is one more song of his somewhere up the list. Feel free to guess which one. I know very little about the artist here but he does unfortunately get slumped into the other 2010 songs that I casually dismiss. I've been very picky this decade but that could be because of my constant looking back and remembrance of the first 30 years of my life. 2010 is when I officially started to become "older" and we all eventually tend to miss when we were young do we not? Things were just better in my youth imo.

And so we have come to another user nomination. They seem to be coming fewer and further apart lately. Unfortunately though for azuarc we must say goodbye to another of your nominations bringing you down to 3 remaining. This bumps you up to 2nd place atm in the nominator ranking though. I honestly thought I had heard this song before going into it but quickly realized that I was experiencing it for the first time (several more times by the time I wrote this writeup though). It's got an interesting James Bond vibe that would either be a great theme for a new movie or perhaps an action packed video game. Speaking of that I could also imagine speeding along in Gran Turismo or Need For Speed with this playing in the background as well. The guitar shredding is top notch and I love the effects and reverberation here. I would easily listen to this any time I heard it on the radio... if I ever did.

What an intoxicating intro am I rite? This was primo 90's Grunge imo. I'm not sure why it didn't get to the top of the Billboard list but I always thought it did well. When I hear it I instantly time travel back to high school in reflection. So many things that I have somehow connected to this song but I got lots of memories of hanging out in the IT wing either in Engineering 101, Graphic Arts or Woodshop. Listening to the radio was required in those classes as most of the time students meandered around from one project to the next and the teachers were always cool as s***. It's an odd feeling to know that when I'm 80 I'll be calling this one a classic. Too bad it didn't get higher on the list though.

Oy... I'm not sure I truly appreciate this song anymore. It's melodies are great but a bit jagged to my ears. It makes it hard for me to get in tune with the song but I do recall when this came out. It was somewhat of a big hit on a bunch of Alternative radio stations in my area. The chorus is obviously redundant but forces me in a way to throw shade on the vocals for some reason. I can't really recall if I've ever heard anything else from these guys and this is the only song that gives them representation here so that is probably unfortunate news for any fans of the band. I don't know much about them either really. I was always pretty dedicated to a couple of bands for my Pop Punk fix; neither of which have appeared yet in the ranking but most assuredly will.

I so wish I could bump this higher but I cannot using the original version if I am to remain consistent in scrutiny. We have yet to get to the part of the ranking where rules bend to almost broken. However, If I were ranking the best version imo shown below this would be quite a ways further up the list. There are few songs in which I truly feel spiritual and emotional but this versions' chorus gets me every time. Closing my eyes and raising my hands to the air is a natural internal reaction and an overwhelming appreciation for all the things I have in life fill the tears in my eyes. It is sad and true. Don't judge me! lol

Not a big fan of the drawn out intro in the official video release. Not sure if it is in the radio edit because I don't believe I've ever caught the beginning of this song on the air. I'm assuming it isn't though because it's not a common thing to see in a radio edit. This song takes some time to get started but when it does I learn that I only like one part of the song. I really like the way the chorus lyrics are perfectly married with the melody as if each word is a note itself. Unfortunately that is the only part I really like. I could honestly listen to that on replay for the entire length of this song and I would think it is one of the best songs ever. Disappointingly for Snake I'm sure is the fact that this will never be as high as it should be in retrospect to the rest of Taylor's listed songs here. Or... maybe I'll get lucky and all his favorites are at the top where they could be? :P

Ordinarily I'd appreciate this song more since I was more familiar with it in Junior High but... it hasn't held up well over time for me. I kinda like the beat a little and the lyrical beat box lines are cool but when I analyze the vocals a bit deeper I can't hear anything but a raspy aging man. The lead singer isn't what anyone would picture when hearing this for the first time I bet. That stache is kinda distracting lol. Anyway, I feel like this came out of the tail end of the 80's sometimes because it has a slight 80's vibe imo. I kinda missed the year on this one as far as the format of this ranking goes. For the most part in the ranking I decided to list the year as the year of the album's release that contained the song but in this case I have listed the year of the single's release. The album actually came out in 1995.

Anytime I hear this song I immediately think of the Weird Al parody and it is absolutely impossible for me to hear the original in a way that I should be. It's basically Bias but you're cool with that from time to time right? :P I still like this song a bit and it is a true classic for sure. It only topped the charts for a month but hovered in the top 20 or so for another couple months after that. It was also credited for being the longest song to ever reach #1. How many of you here were in junior or high school when this became popular? I bet there are a fair amount of us here from this age bracket honestly. This was always a catchy beat though imo. It's pretty hard to dismiss the melody here as it alternates through an often popular waning/waxing 4 chord progression style that shows up in a fair amount of Pop Punk and Alternative Rock songs. I don't know if I've ever heard another song by this band before but I may seek something out eventually. I grabbed the song from a Top 100 90's tunes' list because it was mixed in a string of like 6 or 7 songs that I insta-added for popularity.

I don't necessarily feel now that I'd be as interested in hearing this as I obviously was when I pre-scored it but I must have been feeling the beat when I listened to it then or something lol. It was a catchy tune for many and was just another single from Teenage Dream that helped rocket Katy to the peak of her career. And yes 2010 was her peak imo; Prove me wrong if you disagree. Anyway, the song is now our first (and likely) only Disco Pop song. I'm not 100% but I feel like I'm pretty sure there aren't any other songs from the genre on the list (I'm too lazy to check atm).

We are getting ever closer to the top 100 songs from this decade though. It's about time too. Gotta get them out of the way for all of the classics at the top.:P The song got a couple of nominations and won song of the year at the BMI Hip Hop awards. It was originally released as a digital download and came out on album 6 days later. The collaboration came to fruition because The Weeknd is actually a long time friend with one of the members of Daft Punk.

This song had similar simultaneous release with another version of the same song so I'm not 100% which came first. The other version is more Country Rock than Pop Rock but both sing of a place in the Himalayas that is cited in some ancient texts as a place of enlightenment. I guess the lyrics and story are a metaphor for journeying to a place where kindness and cooperation are ideal. Supposedly there is an actual temple in Peru that was cited as the original location of the ancient texts. The song is quite recognizable but the band isn't all that common imo.

Some of the first fantasies I had about girls included her so I definitely understand the message of the song... however, now that I'm older I also see how creepy that is. This song got a ton of radio play and still does from time to time but it never became popular enough to top the charts. It did come out when Power Pop was beginning to wane so maybe it's release was just poor timing.

Song: "All Of Me"
Band: John Legend
Album: Love In The Future
---{ 2013 }---
Genre: R & B
Score:[9.2][6.2][7.3][7.2][3.3][7.2][10.2] = [50.6] = [7.228]

Write-Up:
I truly can't say that I've ever been a fan of this song. I do like love songs from time to time but I think what ruins this one for me is that I know it was written for Chrissy Tiegen and I just don't find her attractive tbh. Something about her personality bugs me too so there is that. Anyway, it is a well written tune and it was definitely overplayed on the radio when it came out. It obviously made it to #1 on the charts and it became Legends first #1 in the US. The song also became the top grossing single of 2014 which makes sense as much as I heard it that year. That's about all I got to say on that though.

Don't have time atm to make a list but if I at least get 1 nomination in I'd like to nominate this:

Amazing Slow Piano String Beat (DJ Kamran Remix)

I have no idea what the original source is other than it's a dude that goes by MJD beats.

The video has had only 800 views in the last 9 years and at least half of those are probably me lol.

Remind me how nominator score is determined?

The total of your song placements from 0-1300 on the full ranking divided by the total of your song placements from 0-260 on the decade specific rankings.

If you think of the score as a "margin of error", the smaller the number the better your list is overall imo.

Song: "In Bloom"
Band: Nirvana
Album: Nevermind

Write-Up:
Jumping back in, we have one of Nirvana's more popular tunes. I don't know why but I just never became a fan of this song. I mean, it's good n' all but I couldn't listen to this all the time. I don't mind some Grunge but this is among the grungiest imo. The song is basically a note about fans of the song who don't understand the band's message which is kinda funny to me for some reason. Something interesting about the song is that it was originally recorded with a bridge that the producer by the name of Butch Vig literally had cut out from the master tape with a razor and tossed in the garbage. I wonder if that version is available somewhere. I'm kinda curious what was cut out...

Hello Everyone,

Just a few words before we dive into the top 700 songs in the ranking.

The next 200 songs or so are gonna be interesting. There are a ton of popular tunes heading your way and a fair variety that may appease to a majority of the followers at this point. (you presumably made it through the bottom 600 at least am I rite? ...it's definitely not gonna be worse lol)

Anyway, you may even have been waiting to hear some of these songs as there really are a lot of favorites here. It's where I may have the chance to pull some of you in as we wind the list down to the melodies that I consider the Best of the Best.

Thank You to anyone that has been following and I appreciate the support. You guys don't have to be so quiet though so don't be afraid to comment on your favorite songs when they come up!

And on we go...

Hmm it seems we still have some more 2010's to rank. I'm kinda curious what the next decade will bring but I sure as hell hope that the age of pop takes a rest. I'd love to go back to another healthy streak of Nu Metal. I always thought this was a Beiber song tbh. It sure sounds like something that'd be in his early career anyway. I kinda feel like we've had more than a few songs drop already that should have performed better than this but I'm going through the score and it's pretty close to how I feel in each category, weird. Oh well. We'll run with it and see where it ends up lol. As a result of this ranking we have finally come to the Top 700 songs! I'll get some stats up and we'll continue the countdown in a few days. :P

Write-Up:
Talk about some energetic Emo lol. So to start, I honestly shouldn't be dropping this song this low but there are obviously a couple of reasons why I am. I've heard it a bazillion times it feels like but the year of it's release wasn't the best time in my life and I was experiencing a multitude of drastic changes at that point. I was now married and had my first kid and a bunch of family on both sides of the aisle that were heavily against the fact. Like, why in the f*** do families always think that they know what is best for one of their kin when their lives are far from perfect. Can't they just f***ing support you without passing judgement that they themselves aren't qualified to give? Anyway, I was in search of a job that I didn't hate and one that paid a fair supportive wage while trying to figure out if marriage and fatherhood was the right choice. I used to literally go for a drive just to zone out and listen to music to try and get my head back in a more confident place and I'd always hear this song which would end up having the opposite effect by making me more angry and depressed lol. I understand the bands' gimmick and recognize the greatness in their songs but the stressed vocals or maybe the decibels in the lead singers voice were always just a hair outside of comfortable listening for me. Still a decent song though.

Write-Up:
Is anyone surprised after hearing this song that Darius Rucker would eventually become a Country star? Not me. The twang in his voice says it all. He was clearly in tune with his interest in heartland vocalization pretty early on imo. I remember when this was a big hit though and it played on most radio stations. This was actually the 2nd song from Cracked Rear View to climb the charts but unfortunately never made it to the top although it did get very close. The album would go on to become one of the best selling albums of all time and was for sure Hootie's best of their careers. Even though there are 4 people credited with the writing of this song it was Darius that once claimed he wrote the song in a single sitting after a short bout of musical meditation. (He listened to "She Talks to Angels" by the Black Crowes supposedly and some Bonnie Raitt) I wonder what the rest of the band thought about that statement when he made it 14 years after the songs' release.

Write-Up:
I once got connected with this tune during the Guitar Hero craze and loved to play it a serious amount. It was fun on expert and tricky exercise for my fingers. I found that Guitar Hero was at least useful for one thing and it was that. It kept my fingers agile and made reaching for chords a lot easier when I played around with my actual guitar. Anyway, this was always one of the tunes I liked to imagine I were playing for real and you actually got a little satisfaction after nailing it on the fastest speed. I don't know a ton about the band specifically but I do remember there being an issue with the writer and co-writer of the song. Apparently the dispute was over the solo/segway of the song but I'm not sure 100%. Regardless the song became a hit and one of the most successful songs by the band. I generally will listen to this song all the way through whenever I have the opportunity to hear it just for the fact that I like a variety of instrumentals.

So... no one laugh at me. I've finally done it. We've now added Teen Pop to our genre pool. >_> But that does bring us up to a whopping 111 genres in all which is quite possibly more than anyone entering this topic would have imagined (myself included). I did not adequately anticipate the distance that I would branch out into the music-verse but I am completely and pleasantly satisfied with the results of my exploration. Anyway, this song is annoyingly catchy. If high pitched notes and jarring vocals aren't your thing these kind of songs can be notes from hell. Occasionally I get caught up in the beat of one of these tunes because my kids do. I think it's fine. Right? Yeah, it's totally ok as long as your kids are listening to it lol. I am honestly drawn in by the main acoustic riff that carries most of the song though. It's a good melody and a joyful amount of harmonization.

Write-Up:
First of all this song rocks. It grabs my attention almost immediately but sadly it sounds whiny leading up to the chorus which really cramps my interest. I've actually got a few great examples of the band's work on the list that we'll get to hear later so don't think my dropping of this tune here means I dislike the band. I don't really have a problem hearing this song in most settings but it isn't one of those motivational tunes I use when I need to drone out and get some work done. It did ok on the charts but wasn't what made Breaking Benjamin popular I can assure you. We'll get to the tune that I feel made their careers but you might have to wait a while lol. (I promise I'm determined to finish this ranking before the new year so it isn't that long)

Song: "Unforgettable"
Band: French Montana
Album: Jungle Rules
---{ 2017 }---
Genre: Hip Hop
Score:[8.3][8.3][8.1][4.2][6.1][6.2][9.3] = [50.5] = [7.214]

Write-Up:
Finally a Hip Hop song that can serve as a little bit of an example of what direction I like my Hip Hop to lean. I dig a good beat but if it sounds hollow after a long listen like there could be more depth to the rhythm... it kinda bugs me. I feel sort of cheated for taking the time to listen. That probably sounds foolish since it's obviously a great beat but I need a bit more Melody. I'm not so sure it reels me in lyrically though and that main chorus sounds awkward to me for some reason. I had actually never heard of the band until they appeared on my list of songs to rank which is funny because I'm not really sure how it landed on the list. It did get competitive with the bottom half of the list which is neat but unfortunately if there are any fans out there, this is where I disappoint you and drop the song.
