Some things will not go according to plan or just be flat out wrong. Be prepared to be calm in the face of it and have at least one person by your side who is willing to be a point of contact for vendors on the wedding day to look into any potential issues should something arise. Ideally have it be somebody who is adept at cutting straight to the point of things so that you don't need to be pulled in.

I've started this game for the first time via the demo and I'm thoroughly impressed so far. I don't care at all about 2D mode, but reading the QoL changes makes me really glad I waited until it came to Switch. The only other Dragon Quest I've played is VIII and I might've only gotten halfway, though I wish I hadn't given up on it and tried to restart for a dumb reason. I think I'll be able to finish this even in the face of the loaded holiday release schedule, assuming the story is as good as I'm lead to believe.

Port - Persona 3 Portable to either Switch or PS4 since I only played the FES console version and never got to experience the features that Portable introduced.

Enhanced - Shadow Hearts series so that I wouldn't have to pull out my PS2 to play it.

Remake - Deathrow was a futuristic sports game on Xbox that was a ton of fun when I was younger and I'd love to see how it did in today's esports world.

The train graveyard is what forced me to switch from PS3 original port to PS4 steam port. Holy hell that was annoying and then became really easy.

But yeah thinking about it, all the dungeon areas were really small. I was taken aback that the sewers were only two screens, but also relieved. There's gotta be some sort of mini game they can shoehorn in there as well. Make the pinball machine playable perhaps, or add something to Wall Market like a casino or competitions in the gym.

I just got to the point where you leave Midgar for the first time. My play time clocked in at just under 7 hours and there is certainly idle time in there.

The speculation is that the first part of the remake will end at this point. I watched the trailer again and understood all of the scenes, so I believe the speculation. How does the speculation suppose they'll extend the play time in the remake?

I've bought a lot of games that I ended up never playing or played very little of, so I regret all of those. I bought Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant and never got very far in the first one. Knowing they will probably never be remade brings me the most shame since I don't know if I'll ever pull out my PS2 again, so I guess I regret bringing that shame upon myself. I'm sure I'd greatly enjoy both.

These are good ideas that I'm taking into consideration. I have no experience with daily fantasy stuff, so I have trouble envisioning how that would work.

I know there are two types of Premier League fantasy in selecting your team for the season vs. drafting your team against others for the season, and I was leaning towards just letting people select their team since it's less demanding and also seems to be the preferred way to play by those who are into it.

Premier League and MLB are both very hard to work around since they are almost directly opposed to each other (August - May vs. March - September). I imagine the marathon would have to start at one of those two season's beginnings. You're looking at a 13 or 14 month cycle depending on where you begin.

This is probably where pick 'ems and daily fantasy come into play.

I just finished Golden Deer.

I was a little underwhelmed. Spent the whole second chapter rebelling against the Black Eagles and then it felt like they just tacked on two more battles at the end against the true evil and the true true evil after the true evil was taken care of. Probably doesn't help that I didn't really like the church and yet I was forced to be on their side.

Lysithea > Raphael > Claude > Hilda > Marianne > Ignatz > Lorenz > Leonie

I intend to begin another playthrough sometime this week. I'm torn between BE and BL, but I'm leaning towards Black Eagles because it feels like a good transition from GD.

Now that I'm home and in front of a keyboard, I'll try and add more thoughts on how this could be formatted.

--8-10 is probably the ideal number of participants. 6 or 12 is probably doable. Anything more or less is probably not worth it.

--For leagues, I'd probably start with whatever the default scoring system is and open the floor to a vote on adding or removing certain statistics.

--To diversify overall scoring and make winning something more valuable, I'd probably add extra points to first place. For leagues, I'm thinking extra points for the regular season winner and also extra points for the playoff winner. For multiple week pick 'ems, I'm thinking extra points for winning a week (nothing too crazy, though) as well as extra points for winning the entire competition.

--I think I'd want to make certain competitions more valuable than others, maybe some sort of tier system. My logic is tier-based. For example, winning a fantasy football league generally requires more thought and attention than pick 'em league, at least when you are playing relatively casually like we are. I'd tier it as Leagues, Pick 'Ems, and Side Competitions (those would be the one-offs).

--In the event this became a multi-year affair, the marathon would begin at the start of Fantasy Premier League (since Fantasy Football is the most popular fantasy sport but Fantasy Premier League starts about a month before it) and end with the conclusion of Fantasy Baseball, at which point the winner of the marathon would be declared. Once the overlap with baseball and Premier league hit, we'd just have two different marathons happening until Fantasy Baseball ended. Maybe I'd try and find a softer spot in the fantasy sports schedule if need be.

Any other thoughts? If everybody who has posted in here so far is interested, that gives us 5 for the moment. I know I said committed people are best, but as long as you just don't forget about your teams and remember to check in on this once a week, you are probably fine.

I floated this idea in the Board 8 sports discord, but wanted to open it to a wider audience. Years ago, somebody (Dr Football maybe?) operated a competition that had users involve themselves in a variety of fantasy sports leagues, tournies, and pick 'ems. The results of those competitions were tabulated into a master standings table. It was an interesting premise but very difficult because nobody involved is well-versed in every sport. I think eventually it feel off because participation by the entrants began to fall off, understandably so because this is a year-long commitment.

I am considering trying to bring it back before Fantasy Football kicks off for the season. I like the idea and feel equipped to try my hand at learning new sports via trying to run a successful fantasy team. However, to maintain momentum, there would need to be a committed group of participants willing to be active in every league regardless of their knowledge of the sport or event. That's why this topic is merely gauging interest as opposed to launching the project.

Here are the competitions I'd make eligible (so far):

Fantasy Football
Fantasy Premier League Soccer (this has already kicked off but leagues can still be made)
Fantasy Basketball
Fantasy Hockey
Fantasy Baseball
NCAAM Basketball Tournament
NCAAW Basketball Tournament
NCAAF Bowl Pick 'Em
MMA Pick 'Em (we'd pick the numbered UFC main cards for a year)

I'd be willing, and hopeful, to add more but that is when you start getting into the more obscure and harder to play sports. I've also toyed with one-off pick 'em events like Triple Crown horse races and the Royal Rumble as sort of side competitions to earn additional points.

Of course, all of this planning is moot should nobody be interested. If you think you could commit to playing and being active in various fantasy sports leagues regardless of your knowledge in the sport itself, say so here. If you have ideas to make this more appealing, please present them. If the interest isn't there, well, c'est la vie I suppose.

Without truly knowing the details because I don't truly know the people involved, I would think going to Portugal seems like a decently "safe" option.

It sounds like she has a very supportive family, which benefits the move greatly. I would guess they would be willing to help with all the goes along with the transition like language barrier, living arrangements, employment, etc. If you are unsure if this is true, I'd check with her/them before reaching a decision either way.

She'd be happy, and you'd probably be able to adapt since humans can adapt to almost anything given time. You guys are 25 and probably have 2/3 of your life remaining. This could very well not be permanent.

You should be able to jump in. Characters and events appear and are referenced from the books and first two games, the second one especially, but there's a character tab in the menu screen that fills in most of the blanks. From what I can tell, there are many references throughout the game, but most of it is of the Easter egg variety and off-hand comments.

I'm not sure how large Koei is or how much crossover between titles there is, but I did get strong Dynasty Warriors vibes from quite a few characters, so I could believe this. Playing Golden Deer, Lorenz and Raphael both seem on the surface-level to have that DW one-note flair.

Impressions so far:

I'm in Chapter 6 I believe and I'm having a lot of fun, though the game is far from perfect. First the negatives.

-The game feels quite unpolished in a lot of places. It's hard to pinpoint where as it's just a feeling I get from time to time while playing and I probably feel it during many of the following negatives.
--Support cutscenes have minimal performances outside of two characters standing next to each other despite them being engaged in an activity together.
--Graphically everything when exploring is just okay.
--The monastery design is also just okay or maybe even a little disappointing.
--I also wish it felt like more of a hub to launch into activities rather than an additional activity itself that you select from a hub menu.
--Most annoyingly is that Byleth is an awful silent protagonist. I'm not the biggest fan of silent MCs to begin with, but most of the time I have no issues dealing with it. However, Byleth shows absolutely zero emotion and carries a constant stone face. His (I'm playing male) responses in conversations are largely uninteresting and I can never tell if they are sarcastic or not or have any kind of assumed inflection, but given how emotionless he's been I should just assume he's incapable of sarcasm and feelings as a whole. The writing and presence of Byleth has been my least favorite part so far and it's not close.

But there are a lot of positive that outweigh the negatives:
++Combat has been a joy. The amount of information it supplies is a breath of fresh air compared to what I remember from the Lyn/Eliwood/Hector FE I played. I'm sure many of these advances had been made in games prior to this, but that's my last experience to go on. I haven't been fucked by any RNG yet either.
++In a similar vein, Divine Pulse is awesome as well. I like how you can go as far back as you want/need.
++Casual mode is a very welcome addition for someone like me. If/when I do a second playthrough, I'll probably switch to classic but having the option for my first Fire Emblem in a long time takes a lot of pressure off.
++Battallions go a far way in making things feel more like a battle rather than a skirmish and I'm sure that will be more noticeable as the scale of battle becomes larger. Plus the gameplay mechanic of it has been fun to apply to characters.
++The story has intrigued me. I really like how they give the player the idea that not everything is what it seems at the monastery from the very beginning. I don't know who to trust and who to be wary of. Hopefully the students adopt this feeling sooner rather than later.
++Having a tangible influence over my units' growth is great. I really wanted to become invested in my party and this goes a long way into making that happen.
++No restricting weapon triangle was a great idea.
++Just having the ability to wander and talk to people in and having stories unfold off a grid battlefield and outside of static cutscenes is deeply satisfying.

Three Houses has me dreaming of a game that takes these elements a step further and really fleshing out the explore and unit development portion of the game. While I wouldn't expect Fire Emblem to step too far into that direction as they wouldn't to alienate what is probably a large portion of their fanbase that want just the battle and class started, perhaps this will inspire a new IP or direction for a different game.

I'm sure I missed and points but I'm writing this on my phone in the bathroom at work during the slow part of the morning. Now I'm going to ignore most posts in this topic to avoid soft spoilers that get offered up as people get deeper into the game because I'm annoyingly hyper sensitive to spoilers. Thank you for taking the time to read the thoughts of someone not deeply invested in Fire Emblem who has little previous experience with the series.
