I often wonder if I would still be as repulsed by Flowers of Evil as I was when it aired. I've yet to go back and take another look.

Of course, I took more issue with the principle of distorting the look of the source material to such a degree, felt a little insulting.

Actually, there is another reason now that I think about it. Wanting to experience it with someone else. There's something to be said for wanting to watch OPM season 2 with a group of people or a friend, that's something that won't be the same with the manga. But alone? Naw, worthless.

Take Baki for example. I had a good time watching this with my roomate because it was fun reacting to it with them, but if I'm being completely honest....it's a super bland adaptation that adds nothing, other than a good soundtrack. I would have never in a million years continued to watch this for myself after reading the manga, and I know this from the incredibley vast difference in my engagement having watched season 1 before reading and watching season 2 after reading, and realizing the anime was just a 1 to 1 copy paste from the manga with no flair whatsoever, really not much different than a motion comic.

Now, there are some people out there who just don't want to read manga, and I get that. If that's how you feel, not much I can say. But cases like Baki and OPM2 are clear examples of a still image manga having better "animation" than an actual anime.

Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but the way I see it, if the animation isn't good there's no reason to engage it as an anime. It's not like it has particularly good music or VA work either. Even the OP is bad, other than the song. Just read the manga.

I mean, unless you're number one deciding factor with a bullet is that it's in COLOR, there's no value here.

The description is a bit misleading, since by the end of the video it's not so much "it may not look great but it's fine", and more "it's not great and looks bad, but people are still watching it, and all the most well known anime is churned out with low quality animation anyways".

Which is upsetting but factual.

I do agree with him about how shockingly good the CG centipede in episode 4 was, which makes how embarrassingly awful the rest of the episode looked all the more jarring. That was a movie quality centipede.

About to be caught up on Re: Zero.

This one was an adventure. I like it just slightly more than Shield Bro. I fucking LOVE the production and how each episode starts with credits, and how each episode kind of has an ending music montage that's different from your average ED.

The one with Puck glaring down at the headless Subaru holding Rem was absolutely fucking haunting.

Yeah that one was wild. Honestly it was shocking just how many episodes sacrificed the opening and ending for just those extra few minutes of content.

I've knocked out most of the source material for upcoming series I'm excited about, save for LN based stuff. Once I'm done with Mob, it'll be Vinland, the most daunting of these being a full size monthly at 162 chapters. Next season is going to be something else, might even surpass Winter.

Yeah kind of just came out with a whimper and zero fanfare....just like the rest....

The OP song is great (yes that's F&L), the the OP itself is definitely completely unappealing to me, taking what should be a cool 10 to 15 second bit to a full minute 30.

I feel like this season was a good bit slower than season 1, but that was inevitable if they wanted to end it where they did. Still good stuff, but...definitely not AS good. It's a series where having read the manga lessens the hype of the anime for sure, truly a "direct conversion" show.

Re:Zero in third makes sense right now, Slime is big and newer. Those would like flip in a few season. Once Re:Zero Season 2 is airing, that shit gets nuts. Don't know if it would topple Konosuba.

I replayed the entire series in a row a few months ago and came to that conclusion.

Mainly though it's because of how insanely much I love Group D's stuff. Twins conslusion had me jumping up an down yelling. Though that's directly because of the VLR payoff, so cheating a bit.

My biggest problem is he's always in the right or what he does works out, (and if he's wrong very quickly corrects it with no actual consequences) and everyone else outside of the party is cartoonishly incompetent/idiotic/wrong/evil. Oh, and he has a harem of literal children one of which now looks like an adult to make it more okay for her to have genuine romantic interest in him.

I think that's the most direct comparison I can make between it and Re:Zero in regards to Re:Zero doing it better.

Caught up with ONE's version. Went back to start from the beginning of the current arc first, since there's at least one significant difference.

Yeah, I think that's definitely the better product where it really matters. Not to say Murata's doesn't have its own very obvious strengths.

I just checked out of curiosity. The chapter ratio for up to season 1 of the anime equivilant seems pretty close, but after that....Murata's version takes about 60-70 chapters (up to date) to get where ONE's does in 20. That's something else....

I heard that going in and it makes me want to check out ONE's version ASAP.

Obviously it's hard to compare between medium's, but on pure story standards I would take Mob Psycho based on the anime over OPM based on Murata's version of the manga right now. There's just way too much stuff here that's all flash and no substance around characters I do not care about, even though it's hard to argue about how good it looks and how impactful that is in a vaccum. It's just way too stretched out.

I'm curious as to where the anime will get in season 2. There's so many in between bonus chapters that cut into the middle of ongoing scenes I would assume would get cut.

I should check out the MP100 manga.
