(WJAC) (WJAC) - Get ready! A new series called "Florida Man" could be making a television debut.
It's no secret that Florida has produced some of the nation's most bizarre news stories, and now, Oxygen Network said it plans to showcase some the state's most outlandish crimes.
"When the murder is so bizarre, the motive so far-fetched and the crime so outlandish that it sounds like something from a Hollywood screenplaytheres a good chance it was actually committed by a 'Florida Man,'" the network said in its show descriptions.
"With access to Florida investigators and prosecutors, this series zeroes in on Americas most notorious, outrageous, craftiest killers from the Sunshine State. The series will unravel the strange twists and turns and try in vain to reason how and why this breed of killers took their crimes to levels beyond comprehension."
No air date has been released, but the show's announcement comes not long after the viral "Florida Man" social media challenge earlier this spring.
The challenge required people to search the term "Florida Man" followed by their birthday. For example, a person may search "Florida man April 17" into Google and get headlines like "Pajama-Wearing Florida Man Reportedly Wanted to Flirt with Waffle House Waitress, Pulls a Knife Out."
