What I'm really baffled by, though, is why characters like Saber and even KOS-MOS are in this bracket, but not The Avatar. Also, something I forgot to bring up earlier is that The Avatar really should have been in this bracket, even as a low seed. Besides the legacy of the Ultima series in general, The Avatar is arguably the predecessor to all the customizable protagonists of video gaming, and their role in Ultima IV represented one of the first times a video game was about something more than slaying the big bad. --- Hail the reigning Guru champ, Advokaiser! If I were had to take a guess as to why Aerith is doing so badly here, though, I do feel that there's a baseline of strength that being a major FF7 character gets you, and then Aerith is even stronger than that due to being fondly remembered for her role in the story. However, as a party member, Aerith just doesn't stand out from everyone else for most people, and that baseline FF7 strength doesn't get anywhere in a FF7-only poll. --- Hail the reigning Guru champ, Advokaiser! First off, 2004 had a company cap of something like ten characters per company, thus leading to many snubs who would have otherwise made the bracket (I seem to recall Serge being one of them). Chances are Zelda was another in this category. Second, 2005 had a format of eight 1 through 8 seeds instead of four 1 through 16 seeds, so Zelda was actually somewhere between 33rd and 40th in terms of nominations. Finally, and most importantly, Allen auto-assigned nine of B8's most popular rallies (whether for 2013 or historical) to 8-seeds in 2013, of which Epona was one of them. We'll sadly never know if she truly out-nominated Zelda, albeit that 16-seed makes it look rather likely. --- Hail the reigning Guru champ, Advokaiser!
