I was supposed to be watching my younger sister but I basically pushed her to go away to a friends or something. So I had the place to myself.

Then I invited the gal I was seeing over for some awkward unfulfilling teenage sex.

Mom comes home early, and I guess she put together that I pawned my sister off on someone else. She threw to door to my room open, I guess not knowing I was actually with someone.

She closed the door again and tells the girl to get dressed. The girl leaves and awkwardly hangs out in the living room.

Then my Mom starts screaming at me. "Irresponsible", "bad brother", etc. Then I guess she didn't see a box of condoms anywhere so she just screams "WHERE ARE THE FUCKING CONDOMS!?!" and when my peanut brain couldn't string together a thought she yelled "If you get a girl pregnant I'm gonna fucking kill you!"

The girl was still in the living room and heard everything. Everyone in my social sphere knew about it soon after. I was about 17 IIRC

Apart from obvious stuff like "I came quick" or "I farted in a chicks face" that's one of my more embarrassing stories

no out of pocket maximum is the most you have to pay for covered services in a plan year. After you spend this amount on deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance, your health plan pays 100% of the costs of covered benefits. Mine is 5k for in network and 10k for out of network once i pay that the insurance company is forced to pay everything else 100%

That sounds like a financial management problem, not an issue with UBI.

Also, if what you said was true, people on unemployment would be blasting through their benefits cheques in days, then starving to death. That clearly isn't happening.

Again, you don't seem to understand what UBI is.

There's literally no reason you couldn't do this with a UBI system.

Then we better start talking about it and figuring it out.

Well, what's your alternative?

Again, these jobs are going away. It's not that people want jobs but will arbitrarily be bared from having them; it's that the jobs will literally cease to exist.

Complaining about it would be like me complaining that I can't make a living as a carriage driver or lamplighter anymore.

Well, that's the upside of automation - the costs of entertainment will similarly be going down.

We're already seeing the windfall of this. Take a look as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and ask yourself how many of them can be fulfilled using nothing but a high speed internet connection. Answer: everything except the bottom row, usually for free (especially if you're willing to play fast and loose with piracy laws).

There is more content available for free than at any point in human history. Everything from video games to music to movies to stories - all online, all with zero cost to the end user. Youtube alone has more video content than you could watch in 1000 lifetimes. Our ancestors could only dream of something like this. And, as robots continue to improve, costs will continue to drop, and more things will be available for free.

Which is, of course, ignoring the fact that UBI money can also be spent on leisure.

If you don't like it then you better start coming up with a different one.

Because - and I cannot stress this enough - this technology is here and now. Saying "let's not do this" is meaningless, because we are doing it. Right now. It's happening today.

Sure I can. It would make zero sense to charge a "driver" who has far fewer accidents and fewer claims than a human driver more money.

Get a life. I come back from my 2 week suspension and you 2 are still arguing about the same shit. No one wants to read your walls of text and obviously if you haven't changed his opinion after all this then you are not going to so just give up.

That sucks. I remember my debit card was abruptly canceled when my credit union determined that it had possibly been involved in a leak of card numbers used at Noodles and Company. I tried to make a purchase, and it was declined despite having plenty of money in my account. So I drove down to the local credit union branch and tried to withdraw cash, and the ATM ate my card and said to go inside. Except it was Sunday, so they were closed and my day's plans were ruined and I had to eat PB&J sandwiches all day because I was trying to go grocery shopping.

Fun times.

you pay tax because you're told to

I pay taxes for the same reason I don't beat up my neighbours and steal their house - because it's the law.

I enjoy the benefits of those taxes, in the sense that if someone tried to beat me up and steal my house, I can be confident that the entity those taxes get paid to will send a group of people over to remove the offenders. That costs money, though - hence, the taxes.

It's a fair tradeoff.

Kyuubi4269 posted...
you're not free unless you're a recognised nation and you're not

Sure I'm free. If I wanted to, I could stop paying taxes, declare myself independent from the government, live life as I choose. I'm perfectly free to do that - no one is standing over my shoulder preventing me from taking those actions. However, the government has told me the actions it would take in response to such conduct and I don't feel like trying to marshal a militia to overthrow them, so while I am free to undertake whatever actions I see fit, they are also free to respond in kind, and I think I like our current arrangement better; I'd rather work with people than against them, y'know?

Honestly, the agreement I and the rest of my fellow citizens have with them is pretty good, all things considered, so I don't see reason to try to renegotiate it at present.

Also, by your incredibly strange definition, recognized nations aren't free either. All nations have obligations they must follow -

That collection of obligations, by the by, is called "society". We've had it for a while and it's worked out pretty well.

Kyuubi4269 posted...
Imagine you have a loan. You cannot go to your bank and ask them for negative interest and they will not give it to you as you are not valuable.

You apparently missed the rest of my answer to this, as I already addressed this.

Yes, I can renegotiate my loan. Yes, I can ask for lower interest. And yes, I am valuable to the bank, as I have an extremely good credit rating (to the point where my bank won't shut up about trying to loan me more money, because they know I'm good to pay it back; I get offers from them for new credit cards and/or lines of credit about twice a month).

Would they give me negative interest? Not in these market conditions. But that's a difference of price, not concept. If I lived in Denmark, which is currently offering negative interest rates, I absolutely could.

Ask any mortgage specialist and they will all tell you the same story: the bank would rather renegotiate your loan than have you default or lose your business. If you lose your job and cannot pay, banks can and will negotiate from you, on the logic that they'd rather get some of their money back than none.

I don't know how much you make - perhaps it's a lot less than I do and that's why you think the bank doesn't consider its customers valuable, but I can tell you straight-up that you're wrong about this. A bank without investors is an empty building with no money.

are we supposed to read all that? where'd you graducate from snhu lol?

Is it bad that I'm constantly thinking of ways to turn an AI into a sentient being? It does all kinds of things that people do, it just doesn't know how to self adjust, and no one knows how to tie it together, on top if taking a bit more than a computer nerd to understand how a human actually calculates the next thought it's going to have.

Also, computers are impressively shitty at emulating neurons. I'm emulating 160 neurons. It takes an hour to guess anything. The human brain has 100 billion neurons. I might give writing a new library a shot at some point, but it's likely entirely new hardware will be needed. It might take an AI itself to design this software/hardware.

I want all of you to understand that anything in the news you hear about revolutionary new AI that learned its own language and plotted to take over the world, on top of becoming a nazi, is total bullshit. The technology is not here yet. Cleverbot is nothing more than a glorified search engine, and everything Google comes up with is as well. I've seen their processing units, they're only marginally better than GPUs.

Enough of your liheral drivel. Go do something productive like clean the roaches out of your AC.

Consumers are still on a buying binge according to this mornings data. After all the tariffs, most of which are in effect, the US consumer is still buying, paying the difference without a single complaint. Can never underestimate the American Consumer. Restaurants packed, starbucks packed with cubicle workers who need to get their cup of morning joe, hayseeds doing construction work on every street. They take out student loans, start working at a restaurant (but only until they finish school they'll make sure to point out to you), get married. Wife can not wait till they buy a house with max leverage, 5% down max, 30 year old loan. Then the real spending binge starts. New SUVs with 7 year loans. Every kind of appliance, kitchen stuff, clothes. On Black Friday it is like sharks on feeding frenzy. Then there is Amazon. Max out credit till they cannot.
