GavsEvans123 07/13/19 3:58:04 PM #3 | Today's trope is Oddball Doppelganger. Here is the link: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/77859232 At first, you'd think this character would be the long-lost twin of another character. But then you start to notice the differences. This character just seems off. It could be due to having a completely opposite personality (can be of the same alignment though doesn't have to be an Evil Twin). It could be due to exaggerating the original character's foibles. This character may even appear to be an Off-Model or otherwise deformed version of the original. Regardless, this character is like a funhouse reflection of the original - strange and distorted in possibly unimaginable ways, but still clearly patterned after the original. TL,DR: A character who's a weird copy of another character. Nominations: Bizarro (DC Comics) Fake Crash (Crash Bandicoot) Doodlebob (Spongebob Squarepants) |

Here are the rules. Each day, I will post a trope from TV Tropes, and each poster can name up to three examples of that trope. Whichever nomination gets the most mentions wins! Posters may also name as many Honourable Mentions as they like, but they are purely optional and will not count towards the running score. You may look at the TV Tropes page for that day's trope for examples, but you do not have to pick all your examples from the page. You can nominate whatever examples you like, as long as they qualify for the trope. Each trope will last around 24 hours before the next one goes up. In the event of a tie between 4 or more nominations, a tiebreaker poll will be run at a later date to determine a winner. Posters may also nominate any tropes they wish to see come up during the series. This is optional, and you don't have to do it every day, or at all. Tropes will be randomly selected from the list each day, except for some occasions where I will pick a thematically appropriate trope that may or may not be on the list. Here's the list of previous tropes, so if you wish to nominate some tropes, check on here that it wasn't previously done. http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Best_of_the_Trope Trope list: Lean and Mean Fat and Skinny Names to Run Away From Really Fast Identical Stranger Mood Whiplash Hostile Show Takeover The Only One Allowed to Defeat You Torch the Franchise and Run Trash the Set Grand Finale |

GavsEvans123 07/12/19 4:45:14 PM #3 | Today's trope is Mentor Occupational Hazard. Here is the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MentorOccupationalHazard Being the Mentor is never an easy job. Fighting the Big Bad yourself and stopping The End of the World as We Know It is tough enough as it is, and you would know. Now you have to do that and take this Nave Newcomer under your wing and teach them the ropes of herodom. If you don't have to convince The Chosen One who just wants to be normal to grow a spine and accept the Call to Adventure, you have to convince your blindly excited and dangerously eager young pupil that You Are Not Ready to learn the Dangerous Forbidden Technique. When you try to protect The Hero from the Awful Truth, you end up facing their Rage Against the Mentor. If they're an orphan, you have to find them a set of Muggle Foster Parents while keeping social services in the dark. You have to endure accusations of insanity when you're trying to teach your charge that Your Eyes Can Deceive You, give them advice on how to tell a love interest "It's Not You, It's My Enemies," and keep a close eye on them 24/7. And what is your reward for all this patience and effort? You die. Yes, there is a 90-100% chance that the Cool Old Guy who has stood by The Hero's side through thick and thin since the first episode/chapter/installment gets offed before the climax of the story. He might get an Obi-Wan Moment if he's lucky. He's just that cool: Too Cool to Live. It's necessary for The Hero's development can they rise to the occasion and save the day without their teacher holding their hand? Are they ready to accept the torch? TL,DR: A hero's mentor dies, often to further the development of the hero or make the villain appear more despicable and imposing. Nominations: Mia Fey (Ace Attorney) The Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3) Dr. King Schultz (Django Unchained) |

GavsEvans123 07/11/19 5:30:39 PM #3 | Today's trope is Fat B******. Here is the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FatBastard Also called fatbastarditis. Once a television character reaches a certain level of tubbiness, the show they are in will lose sympathy for them. It is generally assumed that overweight people are either pathetic, obnoxious losers or greedy hedonistic Corrupt Corporate Executives. They also tend to be portrayed as ludicrously obsessive eaters. Furthermore, most are portrayed as lazy, having poor hygiene, bad grooming, and no fashion sense. Glandular conditions, genetic tendencies, a natural endomorph body type, low metabolism, and weight gain as a side effect of prescription drugs are treated as lame excuses alongside the "I'm just big-boned" mold. This trend first shows up with the introduction of synthetic, high-fat foods in the early twentieth century, which enabled people from most social classes to gain weight quickly. Prior to that point, being fat was considered high fashionexamples include Adipose Rex and how having a fat wife proved that the Railroad Baron had enough money to feed her a lot. Nowadays, obesity is more associated with the poor, as processed food is far cheaper than healthier alternatives. Hence how we can go from the Santa Claus character type of rich and jolly to the modern character type of greedy, lazy, and evil. TL,DR: These characters are as unpleasant as they are overweight. Nominations: Fat B****** (Austin Powers) Billy Bunter (Greyfriars) Garbageman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003) Honourable Mentions: Mr Creosote (Monty Python's The Meaning of Life) Krew (Jak II) Dennis Nedry (Jurassic Park) Augustus Gloop (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) Lots of good choices for this one, I could be here all day! |

GavsEvans123 07/10/19 5:29:26 PM #3 | Today's trope is BFS. Here is the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Bfs The melee weapon equivalent of a BFG. A common trope to both video games and anime, a BFS is an unrealistically large sword most often owned by The Hero, The Chosen One, or whatever type the lead happens to be. To be a true BFS, it should be nearly as long as its owner is tall. It may or may not have other special qualities besides being humongous. If a BFS does possess other strange qualities, one of them almost assuredly prevents it from being used by other people, whether that be weight, a magical barrier, a direct link to its owner, or other means. Usually no other character in a game or series is the possessor of a sword that is anywhere close to as huge. Sometimes, even when unusual swords and weapons are an everyday occurrence, characters are still surprised by the size of the lead's BFS, as it is a physical manifestation of its owner's potential power. TL,DR: A very big sword Nominations: Buster Sword (Final Fantasy VII) Dragonslayer (Berserk) Soul Edge (Soul Calibur) |

GavsEvans123 07/09/19 4:34:13 PM #3 | Today's trope is Storming the Castle. Here is the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StormingTheCastle There are really only a few good ways to end an action movie. You've got your car chase, your mano-a-mano showdown, and your grand, sweeping Final Battle (and maybe something else. Or maybe not. Whatever). These are all well and good, but sometimes the Big Bad isn't gracious enough to come to you. In that case, you'd better go to them. That means it's time to gear up and assault the bad guy's home base. Sure, maybe it's guarded by countless extremely well-trained warriors, a squad of bounty hunters looking for your head, and even The Dragon, but what choice do you have? Maybe the villain's stolen your secret sauce recipe, and he's not afraid to use it. Maybe he's gonna force your girlfriend to marry him. Maybe he just can't be trusted not to come back worse than before. In any case, the only way to stop him is to take him down. TL,DR: The heroes launch an assault on the bad guy base. Nominations: Impel Down (One Piece) Diaz's Mansion (Grand Theft Auto: Vice City) The Royal Ball (Shrek 2) |

Here's the list of previous tropes, so if you wish to nominate some tropes, check on here that it wasn't previously done. http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Best_of_the_Trope Trope list: Mentor Occupational Hazard Fat B****** Names to Run Away From Really Fast BFS Torch the Franchise and Run Trash the Set Grand Finale |

GavsEvans123 07/08/19 5:26:05 PM #3 | Today's trope is Deathbringer the Adorable. Here is the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DeathbringerTheAdorable Here it comes. The Harbinger of Death, the Ultimate Evil, It Which Devours Your Soul, Your Worst Nightmare. ...Or so it's called. Turns out, the creature in question is just a cute animal, with a scary name but completely harmless. Upon further inquiry, you'll learn that it was named by a child, an idiot, a Trickster or some mix of all three, with smugness or bunny ears as optional extras. Topic | Best of the Trope Season 2: Day 199 - Fluffy the Terrible |
GavsEvans123 07/07/19 4:27:59 PM #3 | Today's trope is Fluffy the Terrible. Here is the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FluffyTheTerrible A big, scary, dangerous monster with a bizarre, cutesy name befitting a housepet. Custom dictates for the creature to be introduced by their owner calling for them, the enemies laughing at the creature's ridiculous name, only to be interrupted by earth-shaking footsteps as the pet enters the scene. The customary response is to run away really quickly. Screaming is also highly recommended. Sometimes writers will play with the trope by making the monster look big, scary, and vicious, and yet be as sweet and lovable as its name suggests. Other times, justified because the monster was named when it was not yet big, scary, or vicious. TL,DR: A character with an ironically innocent and cute sounding name. Nominations: Tiny Tiger (Crash Bandicoot) Sweetums (The Muppet Show) Wheely Big Cheese (Robot Wars) |

Topic | Best of the Trope Season 2: Day 198 - Game Breaker |
GavsEvans123 07/06/19 3:42:27 PM #3 | Today's trope is Game Breaker. Here is the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GameBreaker An often controversial element of gameplay that unexpectedly trumps all others. Depending upon who you ask, it may or may not be considered cheating. A Game-Breaker is a legitimate element of the game used in an unintended way. The Meta Game ends up revolving around who can get the Game-Breaker (or use it on the other) first, resulting in Gameplay Derailment. A Game-Breaker can boost a pre-existing strategy or character and make it overwhelmingly powerful against things it would normally be balanced against Scissors crushing Rock, so to speak. One fan term for it is "cheesing". For example, in a game where the player's capabilities are meant to be limited by their access to currency, an easy trick that reaps a lot of money for little effort can become a game breaker. Or a particular gun having extreme firepower, high accuracy, and a high ammo capacity; or a Fighting Game character having a fast, unblockable move with very high priority (the ally equivalent to the SNK Boss). In games with a choice of playable characters, one may be much easier than the others and allow for skipping parts of levels that other characters would have to wade through slowly. TL,DR: Something that's so powerful, it makes the game really easy if you use it, and there's rarely a reason not to use it. Nominations: Yata-Garasu (Yugioh) Reflect (Kingdom Hearts 2) Killstreaks (Assassin's Creed Brotherhood) |

Topic | Anyone playing Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled? |
GavsEvans123 07/06/19 5:42:35 AM #6 | The PS4 save corruption bug has been fixed now. It was caused by the N. Tropy ghosts in Time Trial not accounting for the PS4 exclusive track, so you could have 32/31 ghosts. I'm having a lot of fun with the game. I didn't care for Crash Nitro Kart on PS2, as I felt it was too slow and heavy compared to CTR, but I'm still happy that all its characters and tracks are back, and they've even grown on me with the faster paced gameplay of this game. |
Topic | Best of the Trope Season 2: Day 197 - Acrofatic |
GavsEvans123 07/05/19 4:28:21 PM #3 | Today's trope is Acrofatic. Here is the link: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Acrofatic This is when a fat or heavy character is much Faster Than They Look. After some chuckles from the audience, they reveal that they can maneuver like a gymnast, sprint like an Olympic runner, or kick you like Bruce Lee. This trope is likely a subversion of the Mighty Glacier and the idea that someone large is automatically slower because of their size. May intersect with Stout Strength if the character is also strong and tough, although being merely fast and easily hurt is not unheard of. The character may be a Heavyworlder, explaining some of their ability and density. TL,DR: This character is fast and agile, despite being fat. Nominations: Bob (Tekken) Obelix (Asterix) Kingpin (Marvel Comics) |

Here's the list of previous tropes, so if you wish to nominate some tropes, check on here that it wasn't previously done. http://board8.wikia.com/wiki/Best_of_the_Trope Trope list: Game-Breaker Storming the Castle Mentor Occupational Hazard Fat B****** Names to Run Away From Really Fast Fluffy the Terrible Deathbringer the Adorable BFS Torch the Franchise and Run Trash the Set Grand Finale |
