6th Street

I've lived in Austin for about 30 years now.

Competitive for jobs because everyone wants to be there
Nice way of saying traffic sucks and it's extremely crowded and hard to get anywhere
What's so special about the University? All cities have one
Bunch of assholes on 6th Street and it's very crowded

Jobs is one reason people want to be here, especially if you work in the tech industry.

Yeah, pretty much every company has jobs people do but would rather not be doing. Google has people working on reviewing Youtube videos that break their ToS, specifically looking at death and dismemberment and other things... Those people have reportedly been getting depressed because of their job... That doesn't mean people don't want to work for Google as a whole, though.

Yeah cable but how much do those jobs pay and what's the requirement to get them?

Ah yes, the republican telling others to not vote democrat. A classic.

i think he's more just encouraging them to make their democrat-voting areas work out well instead of moving to non-democrat areas and trying to convert them into democrat areas

Yep. If the democrat thing is working, why are people leaving those areas? Austin is Liberal, but it's in a state that is, at this point, mostly republican.

And I'm not saying I'm strictly Republican. Gay marriage, Abortion, Obamacare, those are all great things. But given the choice between voting for that and paying high taxes, or voting for low taxes and being able to have enough money to support myself, I would rather vote for the low taxes.

Why are people still voting for either party? Both are obviously corrupt and don't give a single shit about anyone not in the 1%.

Generally all politicians are greedy and corrupt. Like, who really wants to make a career out of wielding power over the populace? Maybe a small group that really want positive change but the majority just want that power

Eh politics are rigged. That's why we have the electoral vote.

The electoral vote actually causes an imbalance in the value of people's votes, giving more worth and representation to votes in lesser-populated states than votes in higher populated states.

Wyoming:
- 3 votes
- ~577,000 people
- 577,000/3 = Each electoral college vote represents 192,333.333 people
Texas:
- 38 votes
- ~28 million people
- 28,000,000 / 38 = Each electoral college vote represents 736,842.105 people.

If the electoral college was actually balanced, Texas should have a lot more electoral college votes based on how many people live there.

Electoral voting is government control. It's not supposed to make sense.

I've got nothing against Democrats btw.

But the thing is, everyone is moving to TX because the liberal thing didn't work in their state. They wanted to move here because the cost of living is cheaper because we are Republican, so they are clearly not okay with the Democratic beliefs. And if you're one of the people who moved to TX and voted Democrat, why would you waste your time moving yourself, your car, your belongings down here, finding a new job, and leaving everything you know behind just to end up back where you started?

Never understood it.

EDIT

The thing to learn from this whole Texas thing is that voting Democrat raises your living costs.

just kind of annoying how everything is so crowded now because they are all moving here and how you can't even go to a park any more without a "reservation" because they care about their fitness and how they look. was at a park one day and this guy was like, "can you believe we went all the way down and back up the Grand Canyon in one day?"

another guy was saying to this lady, "Did you go up that hill over there ? It was fun."

It's like dude, we know going uphill is tough, you dont have to try and act like it is fun to make yourself look cool. You just make yourself look like someone trying to show off when you say stuff like that.

Colorado's kind of the same way. When I was at the Red Rock Ampitheater these guys were trying to run up the hill from the bottom, then this one guy was trying to hop up it with one foot. Another time I was talking to this one lady about running and she asked how far I ran and at the time it was 7 miles a day so I said that. Then she was like really? My friend does 13. And I didn't care, good for her. But everything has to be about looking good and showing off.

You mean drastically more expensive? Well maybe that's not a bad thing, maybe then everyone and their mother will stop moving here.

I meant at a national level. 36 more blue and 36 less red votes guaranteed.

Of course I do have a legit answer if TC is not just trolling.

Living in cities like San Fran or Los Angeles has high amount of job opportunities, which also means high amounts of people are going to flock to them. Most of these people who move into California for job opportunities tend to be over achievers who want to increase their chances in getting picked. This means being number 1 at what they do. I know I have a manager who's from Kansas that moved to LA specifically for the position he has at our firm. He's decorated af with a very impressive resume and work experience.

But honestly, those are the minority though. Most of us Californians living in the cities are just trying to live our lives and don't care about being overachievers.

But of course I have a feeling this topic was made specifically for trolling, so whatever at this point.

So asking a question about a state is trolling? Maybe it wouldn't be so annoying if I wasn't constantly surrounded by these people. So you're saying that most of the California transplants aren't from there? Is California not a state that is obsessed with their status / appearance?

I know I will probably be modded for this since we aren't allowed to bash the East and West Coasts on here, but this is something I notice when I go to Austin.

They have to have the nicest car, nicest clothes, have to be in shape, have to eat healthy, have to have the best job, have to have hair that looks like something from a magazine in order to try and look like people from Hollywood, very concerned about their appearance.

And most of them have to be "good" at something. If you're a runner, you can't just run laps, you have to be getting ready for a 20 mile marathon. If you are into games, you have to be a programmer and be ready to go to the latest gaming competition. If you are into martial arts, you have to belong to a gym and be getting ready for professional fights. If you like riding your bike, you have to be willing to ride at least 20 miles a week.

I guess they think it makes them look cool, but a lot of Texans see that and laugh because they don't realize how ridiculous they look. Also, do they realize that the stars in Hollywood could care less what they do? Never understood the obsession.
