| agesboy 06/30/19 12:40:38 AM #88 | I'm at 77 now. The plot is getting VERY good. Scholar changes feel horrible in dungeons but great in trials/raids. It's REALLY stupid that with 4+ enemies, your strategy is spam aoe for a few casts then sit there doing nothing because you can't sustain aoe spam. Doing absolutely nothing is not a fun playstyle, especially with how lengthy GCDs are in this game. There should always be a productive way to spend your GCD, but if Art of War will do 600+ potency, you're running low on mana, and you still have oGCDs to cover tank healing.... the most productive thing you can do is sit there and aoe once every 10 seconds. :/ Also, fairy AI is kind of dumb in that she will always heal the lowest HP party member... not lowest HP percentage party member. So during raidwide damage I I pop Whispering Dawn for, she will continue embracing them until all DPS are topped off, even if the rest of WD would have topped them off. Tank at 40% HP but some aoe tickle goes off? Fairy will be occupied for at least 10 seconds untickling them. --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |

| agesboy 06/22/19 8:21:24 PM #198 | Started the danmachi mobile game on a whim and I apparently picked a good time to start because it's dropping a lot of plot bombs in the form of a canonical story that's been alluded to a ton of times but never actually told. This event is the story of Argonaut, the hero from the fairy tale that inspired Bell to become a hero in the first place... it's pretty good wtf --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |

| agesboy 06/20/19 12:03:36 PM #182 | dragon504 posted... I love the isekai setting. I really wish there was a game with an isekai setting. You do game's intro in normal boring world and get sent to isekai world. Isekai world is a fantasy setting but has friends/foes/items from all kinds of worlds. Maybe even make it so that you can summon beings from other realms and have a huge pool to pull from and what you get is somewhat random. Maybe you can travel back and forth from the mundane to the fantastical. Death end Re;quest is a little like that. Two protagonists, one stuck in a game one on the outside. Frequent point of view switches between the two realities. Apparently it gets bad later on, but early on it was interesting enough. --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |

| agesboy 06/16/19 10:15:16 PM #54 | If you're coming from XI to XIV expecting it to be like XI, well, that was XIV 1.0 and it flopped so bad the entire game almost just died right then and there. The game director was recently asked if there were going to be 1.0 legacy servers and he died laughing at the question. I play both pretty casually and they're both fun in their own ways. Neither is that comparable to the other, as both are products of different times. https://www.ffxiah.com/player/Asura/Baldrs https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/6369029/ --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |

| agesboy 06/16/19 2:09:12 PM #51 | I don't think dancer's support capabilities will be any more impactful than other ranged dps, though. Current meta is basically just don't repeat dps classes, don't use machinist if possible, run astrologian plus scholar, and run paladin plus warrior. My group cleared the current standard hard endgame raid with machinist and dark knight though. No one class is especially op, and you're encouraged to use a variety. Also, as an addendum to what I said before, almost every class but samurai, white mage, and black mage (iirc on the last two anyways) has some kind of unique (though, sometimes only stylistically so) support capability. Monk has brotherhood, red mage has embolden, ninja has trick attack, summoner has both a buff and a debuff depending on pet out, bard has foes requiem, scholar has chain stratagem, astrologian has cards, machinist has hypercharge, etc. How good each one is varies, though. Like hypercharge is ass compared to trick attack. You want different classes so you can synchronize these support buffs to happen at the same time and multiply their effectiveness. --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |

| agesboy 06/16/19 1:37:46 PM #47 | There's no dedicated support/buffing/debuffing role, no. Most classes have varying levels of party support (samurai has no support but is pure damage; bard/machinist have lower dps but high mobility and more support), but at the end of the day you're either damaging, healing, or tanking. If you want esoteric but vital support roles, FFXI is still kicking. Every party pretty much needs a corsair (role the dice for different magnitudes on buffs), bard (song buffs), and geomancer (buffs/debuffs specific stats by proximity) in the current meta. And while they might open skillchains, pull/debuff mobs, etc, their damage doesn't actually matter too much. There's no pure support in XIV because everything is tightly designed. FFXI literally had unclearable fights that people spent days STRAIGHT fighting before people passed out from exhaustion. They weren't nearly as concerned with balance. --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |

| agesboy 06/16/19 11:59:57 AM #44 | Raganork posted... What, then, separates two players playing the same job? skill and experience Raganork posted... Worse, what separates one melee dps from another when damage output takes precedence over utility? You run a parcer, see which jobs have the greatest damage output, and create the exact same party compositions for raid progression as everyone else. Every raid group will look the same and act the same. Since thats the case, why have jobs at all? this realistically only an issue for people trying to clear day 1 undergeared; no fights in xiv are actually overtuned to the point where composition actually matters all that much. fights are designed around handling mechanics correctly, mitigating at the right times, and healing at the right times efficiently. raw numbers will generally not be the reason for failure. of course, some jobs just feel like absolute ass and nobody wants to play them sometimes. in no world should one button on a *tank* with a 30s recast eclipse the culmination of a machinist's entire burst phase that they revolve their entire rotation around. https://puu.sh/DDuXa.png --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |

| agesboy 06/16/19 11:48:55 AM #42 | miki_sauvester posted... FFXIV is lame because every class is basically a cookie cutter skin of one of three real "classes", tank, healer, and dps. Basically any tank class is replaceable with any other tank class, any healer class can substitute for another healer class, etc. No true class variety. After discovering this, it kind of turned me off from the game. this was less so before but absolutely so in shadowbringers with healers, it makes me really sad scholars are losing like 80% of their damaging toolkit including their most used aetherflow ability energy drain... papercup posted... So my raid group really only has 4 core people. We still haven't cleared Final because 1) Pugs are bad and 2) Pugs are BAD. Even when we pull people in who have clears, they have to learn the pug strats, and then we can't clear because "their way is better" or some bullshit. No. When you clicked "Join Party" and the PF says "Pug strats" you're telling us "I agree to do things your way". yeah, my raid group has tried messing with pugs in wow and we all agree thats trash and we'd rather just take the day off if someone's missing and we can't get a replacement we personally know my group literally does things inverted from pug strats (in HW healers run left dps run right to drop defamations) but meh its still fundamentally the same thing and we run no pugs so we have no problems --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |

| Topic | total war three kingdoms is a pretty good game |
| agesboy 05/28/19 12:49:22 PM #17 | funkyfritter posted... What makes it significantly better than the other total war games? Runs extremely smoothly while still looking really good, the diplomacy is actually not trash this time and the AI is far more willing to make more trades like territory for food/cash, the food system from Brittania actually works here, there's both romance mode (where generals are like Dynasty Warriors heroes) and records mode (which is more like Shogun 2 with hero retinues) for both kinds of playstyles, turn times are practically nonexistent, vassal spam is actually a valid campaign strategy that doesn't fall apart as people start despising you for doing well in the endgame, the endgame is a lot more approachable since you just have to control 3 specific regions at the same time, and the optional Chinese voiceover has been noted to actually be very good. For the first time in a Total War game I feel like the campaign map is more than just context for the big flashy battles. The AI in this one is doing some particularly sneaky things, but it doesn't feel like you're focused overmuch for being the player; they'll just as often stab each other in the back. Only bad parts so far is a lack of information presented when you're offered deals, Yuan Shao is kind of broken and vassalizes everyone with pretend money if you ignore him and he snowballs, towers and trebuchets seem to have too much damage, and some other minor things that will probably be tweaked (definitely by mods as soon as mod support comes out). For a release version, the game really solid. ParanoidObsessive posted... Also, what makes it worth getting for someone who has never played a Total War game at all? It's a very fun (and likely familiar) setting and you don't have to learn five million unit types like in Warhammer. It's not overly complicated, but you still have room to optimize as you learn the game better. A LOT of campaign micro is cut down (you don't have to shuffle around pressing a ton of buttons when an army is demolished or recalled). And honestly, it's worth trying out some Total War at some point, because huge battles with an emphasis on morale management is a fun macro playstyle for a strategy game. I really dunno how to sell the game other than just watching videos on twitch. I was prepared for this game to be trash like Thrones of Brittania and it's ended up a massive surprise. --- https://imgur.com/LabbRyN raytan and Kana are on opposite ends of the Awesome Spectrum. |
