Aerith dying again.

Jokes aside. Nothing actually. A Final Fantasy Tactics remake is about the only thing I would look forward to. Traditional JRPGs are typically one-time only games for me. Part of the fun/draw for me with these games is the story so knowing what is bound to happen already kills the fun a bit.

But everything you can do on a phone you can do on a computer, like how things were done before smartphones...

My experience related to this is only via our clients who we sometimes send emails and PDFs to for review prior to us progressing with a project and/or finalizing it. I don't know if our clients take laptops with them but there are times they're out doing fieldwork or checking a project site.

Instead of waiting for said client to get back to a computer/get internet access for their laptops, it is nice to get a response in between their travels or during a break while on the field. Same goes for receiving photos of a project site. Getting a feedback within minutes instead of hours can be convenient at times.

This is all doable before smartphones but depending on ones line of work, getting a response within minutes or hours can mean a project getting out that same day or possibly a day or two later. In my line of work, projects are done within days so one or two delay days is a biggy.

Speaking of keeping track of your spending, it really bugs me when some gas stations or restaurants have a different transaction name. Dunno how many gas stations I've been to where the name of transaction is different from the name of the gas station.

I use Google Sheet to track my debit and credit card spending and have my spending organized into income/deposits, gas, food, entertainment, and savings/miscellaneous. Miscellaneous is pretty broad though and include items such as my internet, insurance, investments, car payment, etc.

I do tweak how I label my spending sometimes though. For example if I spent $300 on food for an office birthday luncheon and got reimbursed for it, I'll label the reimbursement under "Deposit" but would label the spending as "Miscellaneous" instead of "Food".

I was using something got Mint that automatically track my spending but the algorithm of how it organizes my spending fluctuate. I know I can manually re-label stuff but it got tedious.

I assume "players" should be broad enough of a term. I'm not suggesting "gamers" since some "gamers" might be upset over being associated with folks who play mobile games or other less challenging games.

Though personally I question why/how folks would get upset over such pointless titles. Are you having fun with the games you play? Yes? That should be all that matters. It's like my friends, who was born in 83 and 84, somehow being upset by some folks associating them with millenniums when again it is just a near pointless title.

I apologize for being "that guy" but was it Amazon that shipped the order or a third party vendor that sold the book via Amazon but shipped it themselves? I know Amazon is not free of fault but most errors I tend to notice are from third party vendors.

On the plus side, at least Amazon will cover the cost of shipping to return it. A hassle on your part but at least at minimal/no cost.

Zangulus posted...
Also, complain. Theyll pay for the return and probably give you some extra for the hassle.

I wonder if they're still as generous as before. A third party vendor once shipped me a fake Kindle case despite listing it as a used Kindle case. Amazon processed the refund, paid for the shipping, and gave me $30 or 40 in credit to buy a case. I kinda had to force them to reduce it down to $10 as I felt the fault was entirely on the vendor's end and not on Amazon. Giving me store credit is just a bandage treatment. I'd rather they only work with vendors that are honest about what they sell.

Personally I try to limit myself to $200 a month on food. A $10 box of oatmeal will last me the month for breakfast. $40 for turkey, cheese, and bread for lunch for the month, and the rest for dinner which varies. About $40-50 does goes to lunch with my coworkers every Thursday. That $8-15 lunch can add up really fast so I need to by mindful of how often I eat out when not with my coworkers or friends.

I think the key factor is to buy in bulk. I got myself a CostCo membership earlier this year. The $60 I spend for the membership is kinda paid for from the money I saved from getting their gas which is sometime $0.30 cheaper per gallon compared to other gas stations. From there I just buy certain food in bulk. It kinda gets boring sometimes but that's kinda the sacrifice one might need to make to limit spending on food.

They were so thankful and said that they would remember my kindness always.

Did I get scammed? Probably. Do I still feel good about it? Yes.

I've been in a similar situation. I offered to meet the person at a gas station and pay for a few gallons of gas. The person said it would be a bother to have me do that so cash is preferred. More than likely it was a scam but I just gave maybe $6 in small bills and change to the person.

I can definitely see why my friend kinda scolds me whenever I give cash. At least if I just give food, or gas in this case, it is much less likely that said person will use that cash for some less than honest purpose.

When I use to work as a cashier at a family gas station, at least on a few occasions near the start of a new shift a customer would come in and buy a few dollars worth of snacks with a $100 bill. I leave it to my aunt, uncle, or older cousin to check it but good grief was it annoying to lose that many smaller bills right at the start. Fortunately don't think it ever led to us running out of small bills for change as we either had extra on-site or my uncle would run to the bank to get change.

Personally I enjoy having discussions and maybe debates with others regardless of our differences but if it gets a bit too heated and devolve into a hurl of insults, questioning each other intelligence, etc. that's when I would back up and ask myself "Why am I spending time arguing with a stranger over the internet who I will probably never meet in real life and who has no bearing on my life at all."

I'd imagine for some, especially those with an ego, want that feeling of knowing they're right, at least in their mind, and that they beaten someone in a discussion. Heck, even me writing this wall of text is partly fueled by ego and that desire to be noticed.

To each his own but I sometime ask myself, "How am I benefiting from this discussion?" or "How can I benefit others through my input". If neither no longer applies, I step out. Trying to support my stance with others serves me no purpose if the other side isn't willing to listen so why would I continue wasting time and effort to form a rebuttal. Sometimes the internet is just a bunch of walls talking to each other.

That seems a bit extreme.I think some of her approach does make sense though and isn't unique to her either. Of the clothes in my cabinet, less than half I wear each year. I really should just donate the ones I haven't worn in years especially the ones I can't fit anymore.

Same goes for certain documents. Stuff like manual are almost pointless to keep nowadays especially when one can just download the PDF of the manual from the manufacturer website or scan it and toss out the hardcopy. I have paycheck stubs from 2012 that I kept in binders for no particular reasons. Stuff like this I really have no reason to keep anymore.

Now I don't agree with everything she says but I do feel some aspects of her approach does have merit and is also mentioned by other guides on how to purge. I think the key lesson I took from her book isn't about how to purge but getting into the mentality of keeping only what you actually want to keep. Purging does one no good if one relapses after cleaning out.

I have a football jersey from when I played football in middle school. Havent worn it in ages but id be damned if I got rid of it.

Think I have my Varsity V somewhere in storage. Never did buy the overpriced jacket. Something like the Varsity V I would keep as a memento even if my cross country days are long gone past.

Ive had the same dresser for 15 years. It doesnt spark joy, but its a freaking dresser. It stores my clothes. So I can either get rid of my very functional dresser and spend loads of money to get a new one or since Ive never had a dresser (or really any piece of furniture) spark joy, I guess I could just leave all my clothes in a giant heap since no storage method sparks joy.

I think the whole "does it spark joy" approach is meant for items that one is unsure about keeping or not. There's probably no reason to toss out a dresser that is still being used and functional regardless if it spark joy or not. Ol clothes, gifts, etc. that one haven't worn or touched in months or years is probably something that one would put to the "does it spark joy" test.

In my case, a lot of boxes do contain stuff from back in middle school, high school, etc. that realistically I will never need again and have only kept for sentimental reasons. I'm not that pressed for more space but if I were to start tossing out ol unused items and efficiently make use of that space for my current stuff, my room and home in general would not have constraint feeling to it. Too much open space sometimes feels weird but I think the same applies when you have too little space as well.

Also the idea that everything should be on display all the time? Like if I like my Christmas decorations, Im supposed to have a dedicated spot to display them all year? Total nonsense.

Can't say I recall reading this but would agree certain stuff aren't meant to be out year round or always on display.

And I'm very grateful for that since my grandmother and mother set an example for hardcore hoarding.

My mother had a difficult upbringing so she does have a mentally of keeping items that may be of use later. I don't disagree with her and do feel if there's room for it, certain items can be stored away for use later but at the same time I feel one really needs to be practical about it. For example she keeps a bunch of branches, PVC pipes, metal poles, etc. in the yard to support her plants as they grow. Makes sense except she has an excessive number of these branches, PVC pipes, metal poles, etc. all piled up in a corner that she has never used up entirely. We could probably toss out half and she'll still have enough for her plants.

Good grief why is purging ol and unused items around the house so difficult. Some stuff should obviously be useless at this point that were only kept for sentimental reasons (i.e. ol high school stuff) while others that still "spark some joy" might require some thoughts prior to purging.

I read her book but bloody hell trying to adhere to the KonMari method is a challenge. I have boxes of ol stuff from 2012 after some house remodeling that I haven't touched. At this point it obviously should be safe to toss those out but for whatever reason I feel the need to look through them first and yet can't get myself to just look through one box each weekend or so.

*End rant*

How do you folks handle your purging of ol junk? Despite telling myself many a times of "If you haven't used it in over a year, you probably don't need it", it's like pulling teeth to get myself to actually follow through.

Comments are appreciated,

Thank you
