How many of us would care, though? Like, it's legitimately a non-issue. Counting _lines_ for gender disparity in movies? Are we moving the goalposts of inequity from wages to lines of dialogue? Are we going to ensure that we have an equal amount of men and women on the screen at the same time?

It all comes down to representation, right? Women want to feel like they're actually characters/part of the plot, rather than just window dressing/love interests/objects to torture. We've seen men complain about female reboots, genderswapped characters, men who seem actually competent and not just as a dupe who makes the female MC look better. So its clear everyone wants the same level of respect in movies.

Therefore, for a guy who's regarded as one of the best directors of our time and maker of ~10 movies to basically pay lip service to his female characters feels like something worth talking about.

I kind of hate that. I like my theory that Cap was almost worthy back in AoU, and became worthy in the 8 years since.

Actually, it's kind of hard. I mean, it's super easy not to use racial slurs or attack people based on skin color, but that should be obvious. But when you're brought up in a society that treats certain people as "default" and everyone else as "others" or "minorities", then you're gonna find that there's a lot of ideas and behaviors that seem to make sense in theory, but actually are pretty harmful in practice. This is why it's more important to be anti-racist as opposed to not racist. It's hard to be completely free of racist ideas, but it's easy to oppose those ideas when they've been exposed.

I mean...do they call racists out on their bullshit hoping to dissuade people from supporting them in elections? Sure, that's the wise thing to do.

...they didn't time travel to get the hammer, they went for the Reality Stone and he decided to grab the hammer while he was there, because he was at literal rock bottom and being reminded he was still worthy started his road to climbing out of the pit he was in.

I think you're missing his point

After learning he didn't need the weapon and the power was in him the whole time, following that with 2 movies of him being a worthless failure who needs a weapon because he is powerless without it is a dumb character arc.

He needed a weapon in Infinity War because he was literally weaker than his opponent without one, and having a weapon would've increased his fighting power. His identity isn't tied to Stormbreaker like it was to Mjolnir.

In Endgame, Thor felt like a failure because he still couldn't stop Thanos from wiping out 50% of all living creatures AND because his people are languishing in New Asgard. He wanted to wield Mjolnir again not because it would make him physically stronger, but to reassure him that he is still a powerful warrior and still worthy to lead his people. But, he decides, ON HIS OWN, that there's someone better suited to lead, and he leaves to further work on himself.

Never really forgave that film for casting Matt Damon for the lead role instead of an actual Martian-American.
