That sounds incredibly expensive/unethical and simply unnecessary if there hasn't been an outbreak. If countries had reacted more swiftly with COVID it wouldn't be as bad as it is. But we had people and even government officials downplaying the situation. There were even people on this very message board weeks ago scoffing at the Coronavirus topics. It's fucking dumb.

That could be the solution as well. The only argument I have against this is that things seem to rapidly be getting worse even while we are taking it serious. It could be that its too late to contain it in general. I dont know. I wish we could have seen what the results were if we took it serious immediately

Tourism didnt even cross my mind. That makes things even more complicated. Maybe have several airports/entrances set aside as checkpoints that out of country tourist to check in at before proceeding into the country? That way we can track them and check their health? Ive heard people talk about free healthcare of all including illegals. That doesnt really matter for the main point though. The main point is that we dont have the resources even only for Americans to have free healthcare. We need to develop more resources before we can even approach that possibility. I think I saw an article that there is only 800,000 Hospital Beds in the US. That is NOT enough. If an emergency happens there is never enough resources. You see this all the time for isolated disasters. We get by this by getting help from surrounding areas to get through it. If the country haves a disaster then we are screwed

Yea... Thats true. I dont know the solution to that issue. We dont seem to have enough resources now to deal with documented citizens. If there is a way to deal with everyone Im all for it. However, stopping illegal immigration in the first place should be a high priority.

I still think Trump is an ass, liar and an idiot when it comes to some things<img src="//:0">... However, he was right about many policies. (No necessary right about how to implement them) This Coronavirus really highlights some of his policies.

Building massive wall at the borders is an idiotic waste of money IMO. However, the premise of greatly increasing our ability to control who enters and exits our country was a wise idea. We absolutely need to tighten up how easy it is for people to cross our border. This Pandemic is a good enough reason why on its own.

I was indifferent about Trump wanting to bring all of our manufacturers back to the US because I thought it didnt matter much. If anything, the price of our stuff would go up so I wasnt too thrilled about that. However, hearing the story about how all the masks we manufactured in China couldnt be shipped to us because China said so really opened my eyes here. There is no way we should give another Country that kind of control. Imagine the Chaos if China decides to shut down all shipments from China to the US because they can. That would be worse than this damn virus.

The policy of not giving illegal immigrants healthcare makes sense now too. It made some sense to begin with but it is a much bigger issue than I thought after this virus hit us. We dont have the resources to care for our country. We dont have enough Hospitals let alone Hospital beds. Giving out free healthcare non Americans takes up valuable resources. We need more resources in general before we can even consider giving out free healthcare to non Americans.

Im not a policy expert or anything. I could be wrong with some of what I said. Im just pointing out things Ive noticed and Im giving my opinion on it. Feel free to correct me on some things or give extra context. Im not trying to start any fighting or flaming. This more like my thoughts that could lead to a conversation

I think Pasta is only Italian good. If Chow Mein and Lo Mein is considered Pasta then it would go up a full tier on that alone

My friends absolutely love Pasta. Easy S tier for them. Me? Not so much. Solid C for me. I dont hate Pasta by any stretch. I dont love it either. Its good but not great IMO. I honestly think all Pasta is better without the Pasta lol. Pasta is so bland to me and everything else that goes into it is what makes Pasta good. Not the actual Pasta itself. I could be misusing the Pasta definition to describe the noodles. My fault if I am. I dont know something can be considered Pasta without the noodles though.

I dont think any less of you if you want kids and/or marriage. Enjoy your life. I dont understand how negative some people are to not wanting those things. I live in the South in the US so things might be different else where. However, Im not a big fan of children and I know the financial... liability? I guess thats the term, they can cause. Im looking at marriage and seeing the divorce rate higher than 50%. When I bring that up, people always say those people didnt find Ms Right or something like that. Yet... you are getting married.,. Everyone assumes that their partner is THE ONE. Yet you see the divorce rates. Plus, males often get shafted at a disproportionate rate in court.

Im just weighing my options and my opinions and making this decision. Its crazy that I get looks like Im the spawn of Satan or something.

I saw in the comments on a Yahoo article that explained what happened without a source. So take this how you will. If it's true then this guy is a piece of shit professor that should be fired on the spot.

The student came into the classroom and another student was sitting in his assigned seat. The professor told him to take a seat near the back of the classroom. There was an outlet near that seat so he sat down there and plugged in his laptop to charge it. Another seat near the front became available and the professor told him to move to that seat. He refused, saying he was charging his laptop. The professor told him he could either move or he would call the UPD (University Police). The student refused, so the UPD was called and the student then left the classroom. The professor has since apologized saying he should have handled it differently. The student said he was feared for his life when the police arrived and is now considering taking legal action. There. Now that you have the full details, you can decide who was at fault.

I saw this story and it was blatantly obvious that it was lacking in context. There was no context on why the student was asked to move and what led up to this situation. I thought it was just one article so I went researching and I can't find anything. I've been looking and reading for roughly 30 minutes and the articles are just copy/paste from another article. (I think it's from AP) I'm tired of searching and I was wondering if anyone had the full story and an article showing the full story. I'll post that copy/paste article at the bottom to get some context.

https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/professor-suspended-calling-police-black-student-69031558

A white professor at an Indiana university who called police to his classroom after a black student refused to change seats will not be teaching for the remainder of the semester, the school said in a written statement.
No formal charges or disciplinary action was immediately taken against Ball State University marketing professor Shaheen Borna and he continued to teach after the classroom incident Jan. 21, The Star Press reported, despite campus protests.
The decision is in the best interest of Dr. Borna and the University, the school said of his suspension in a statement Thursday.
The student from Chicago who declined to switch seats, Sultan Mufasa Benson, characterized the teacher's punishment as an insufficient slap on the wrist." Benson has said he believes he was singled out in class because of his race, and that he feared for his safety when police were called.
I want justice, and a temporary leave for all of the policies he broke is still just the bare minimum, he said. But at least it's a step forward in the right direction.
In a letter to the university's student newspaper, The Daily News, about 30 of Borna's fellow faculty members expressed support and urged those who don't know him not to judge him based on this one act, noting Borna is known as a by-the book person.
They said Borna chose to handle the classroom incident based on his understanding of the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities, Appendix Q: Responding to Disruption in the Academic Setting.
The code gives faculty the authority to instruct a student to temporarily leave a classroom if they are disruptive, which the code defines as any behavior a reasonable person would view as being likely to substantially or repeatedly interfere with the conduct of an academic setting.
If the student refuses to leave, University Police should be called and requested to remove the student from the academic setting, the code reads.
Benson was given an ultimatum to move or have the police called. When two officers arrived, Benson left the classroom.
More than 100 faculty members signed a letter to the student newspaper condemning the misuse of police in the classroom, calling out the institutional racism behind it, and telling you, our students, that we are with you.
"Our first concern is Bornas rapid escalation of the situation and involvement of the police to resolve a disagreement about seating," the letter said. No disruption or physical threat existed. The use of police to get ones way in the classroom is institutional violence. We support our students of color as they deal with the trauma of these events and navigate its fallout."
The NAACP was also outraged, calling Borna's decision an example of weaponizing the police against people of color impetuously.
"The actions taken by Professor Shaheen Borna are yet the latest example of thoughtless behavior that yields traumatic and frequently detrimental outcomes," the organization said in a news release. Countless men and women throughout our nation have experienced discrimination, racial profiling, and over-policing at the hands of bigotry and intolerance.

Ive been doing some stock growth rates and something doesnt make sense to me. I feel Im doing the math right but the logic feels flawed in my head. Lets do a simple hypothetical.

Lets say you invest $100. You average growth per stock day is 0.5%. (To make things simple, just use the $100 to calculate the 0.5% growth for every stock day even though this will be less money overall because you should add each days growth to the $100 then re-calculate)

OK, the average amount of stock days per year is 252 so we will use that number. Based on my math, if I make 0.5% on $100 for 252 days I end up with a total of $126 in profit. So I would have a total of $226. That means that is 126% increase year over year.

That feels REALLY HIGH for averaging 0.5% per day. Especially since its flawed and lower than what it would actually be because Im not taking that 0.5% growth and adding it to that $100 each day. Is this math correct? Im having a hard time believing that if someone averages 0.5% growth over a year they will be up 126%

I know you guys dont want to watch videos so Ill try to summarize it the best I can. I bet a few of you have seen this already anyway.

So... This technology, that was developed by an engineer, seems to take inspiration from Dialysis and amping it up to 11 in a good way. The Engineer has developed a product that binds to foreign substances in the blood using Magnetism.

Since that is developed, they can filter the blood of any foreign substances like you are filtering water. You run IV tubing from one site on the body, it draws the blood through a machine where it adds the binding magnetic substance, then it hits a filter that will filter out the foreign substance from the blood, then it puts the filtered blood back into the body in 1 motion.

It can take 2-4 hours to complete and it will eliminate about 90% of any foreign substances which will let your natural immune system fight off the rest of the infection.

Its crazy and seems like it will work on Cancer. Imagine being cured from Cancer in 4 hours. They are testing this method on Malaria in 2020 to see how it works.

Thoughts?

https://komonews.com/news/nation-world/us-reports-1st-case-of-person-to-person-spread-of-new-virus-01-30-2020-175523881

Health officials Thursday reported the first U.S. case of person-to-person spread of the new virus from China.
The individual is married to the Chicago woman who got sick from the virus after she returned from a trip to Wuhan, China, the epicenter of the outbreak. There have been cases reported of the infectious virus spreading to others in a household or workplace in China and elsewhere.
The new case is the sixth reported in the United States. The other five were travelers who developed the illness after returning to the U.S. from China. The latest patient had not been in China.
The Chicago woman, who is in her 60s, returned from central China on Jan. 13, then last week went to a hospital with symptoms and was diagnosed with the viral illness. She and her husband are hospitalized.
Experts have said they expected additional cases, and that at least some limited spread of the disease in the United States was likely. Health officials think the new virus spreads mainly from droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how the flu spreads.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Illinois health officials announced the case Thursday.
At a press briefing last Friday, the CDC's Dr. Nancy Messonnier said: "We are likely going to see some cases among close contacts of travelers and human-to-human transmission.
The virus can cause fever, coughing, wheezing and pneumonia. It is a member of the coronavirus family that's a close cousin to the SARS and MERS viruses that have caused outbreaks in the past. The new virus has sickened thousands, mostly in China, and killed about 170.
An international outbreak caused by the virus first emerged last month in China. Doctors there began seeing the new virus in people who got sick after spending time at a wholesale food market in Wuhan. Officials said the virus probably initially spread from animals to people, as did SARS and MERS.

Men: If you had the money, would you pay $76,000 to make yourself taller?

Me? LOL no.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/men-paying-76-000-limb-155514396.html

The procedure costs $76,000 and requires two hours of surgery and weeks of physical therapy
If a person wants to add height to their appearance, it comes at a cost $76,000, to be exact.
At Debiparshad's LimbplastX Institute, that price tag includes the surgery itself, hospital stays following the operation, and two to four weeks of physical therapy, which Debiparshad said is a necessary part of the limb-lengthening process. Airfare to Las Vegas, food, and hotel costs aren't included in the $76,000.
When a patient gets "Limbplastx," as Debiparshad's practice calls the procedure, they're first given a general anesthetic so they're asleep for the entire two-hour procedure.
During that time, Debiparshad breaks the bone in the lower leg, thighbone, or shin area by making a half-inch incision in the skin and then using a small drill to weaken the bone and help it to break in a precise area. Then Debiparshad penetrates the bone with a chiseling tool that's also commonly used in nose job procedures.
Finally, he inserts nails and screws to repair the small break he created. He does this on each leg.
Following surgery, the patient stays in the hospital for one night for basic monitoring and to receive pain medication, blood thinners to prevent blood clots, and muscle relaxers, Debiparshad said.
Each patient is also given an iPad and given instructions to press a button on the device daily, which sends a signal to the implants Debiparshad installed earlier to extend about one millimeter each day. After 25 days of pressing the button, a person will have gained about an inch of extra height, according to Debiparshad.
"Tricking the body into thinking you're growing is basically what this is," Debiparshad said.
After one week recovering, patients can start to walk regularly again and go to physical therapy, which Debiparshad said is necessary to stretch the tissue connected to the bones and help patients regain their full range of motion.
They continue with physical therapy until they've reached their desired height, which can be up to five or six inches taller than their height before the procedure. A year later, Debiparshad removes the screws and nails and the bone and tissue stay permanently stretched from that point forward.
According to Debiparshad, the procedure can cause pain especially during the first week of recovery since it does involve the breaking of bone, but most patients tell him the pain wasn't as bad as they expected it to be. Most patients can walk around the medical facility where they're recovering just a day after surgery.
