also in the case of a lot of podcasting patreons you can sub, load up on hours and hours and hours of content and then unsub if you want and you'll still generally have gotten an amount of stuff worth whatever price you paid for one month

this too. with rhap they have an app with tons of content including hundreds of hours of audio books and podcasts going back like 8 years. even without all that i would still be a patron as they constantly put out content i love

also it is the hardcore superfans and casuals alike praising the episode as the best of the season. every podcast and forum i have visited are saying the same.

and tony was involved in every minute thing relating to this epsiode from start to finish. not showing someone finding an idol or maneuvering masterfully around a disadvantage would be incredibly irresponsible

Yeah. Because that stuff is organic. As far as seeing who is in control goes, there are so many damn conversations that take place in the hours and hours and hours of footage we don't see, they can edit it to make it look like it happened however they want to. But the organic stuff is what made the show so special back when it was brand new. This stuff is comparable to Greg's coconut phone or Sean's fishing pole that they would never show us in a modern season but made those guys classic characters that people still remember 20 years later.

to each his own but i know most would rather get to see the events that are actually pushing the narrative and the chaotic, entertaining player responsible than relatively boring people doing boring things

This is all stuff I really don't care about.

I'd have rather seen an episode that slowly and logically built up to the Sophie blindside interspersed with longer scenes akin to the fashion show and Nick laughing at what the internet said about him his first season.

Like that's some good stuff they're showing us that we haven't seen in years, I wish they would show us more of that and pace the strategy talk much better. Unfortunately, when you have so many damn advantages going around every other episode, they HAVE to dedicate screen time to those scenes, which messes up the pacing even worse than it already is due to having EoE in play.

Even by modern Survivor standards this isn't the worst season (I'll take this one over 36 or 39 any day), but it's still a longshot from the glory days.

as to the episode being about tony....it kinda had to be.

he found an idol. he got extorted. he scrambled to get the tokens from both sides on the island. he won inmunity and he orchestrated a mind blowing plurality blindside of one of the best players there.

tony was involved in every possible aspect of what the episodes cover and he played in a masterful way while taking out the player that benefits him the most

edit: tony also built even more social capital with michelle and jeremy while planting nick firmly under his thumb

The problem is that casuals tend to be stupid and drool over whatever shiny keys the producers (or hell, the players, since they've evolved their games to play the way the producers want them to) dangle in front of them. I'm sorry, but I don't like Russell Hantz in Samoa. I HATED Rick Devons in Edge of Extinction. And it's not enjoyable for me to see the following on-display this episode: Sophie, who I like, gets half a sentence for a confessional to remind us she has an idol, before getting unceremoniously blindsided for being too close to Sarah, in a relationship that we've basically been told-not-shown since the Rob boot. Michele, who I like, gets ONE moment (making up a quick lie about her EoE advantage), before being relegated to an afterthought during the pre-tribal scrambling. Jeremy, who I dislike this season, looks like a complete dumbass in the edit all episode, yet survives, despite being the reasonable and logical person to vote out tonight. And Tony, who has been one of the most consistently fun and likable characters this season, being shoved down my throat for the entire duration of the episode, always getting his way and being shown to be in the right about everything, essentially turning the episode into "Isn't Tony just fucking awesome and no one else in the cast even matters?"

This episode SUCKED.

the fact that sophie is so good at the game and close to his closest ally is what makes it such a great move.

i guess if you base enjoyment of the episodes just off of what happens to the people you like it makes sense to hate it but i feel like it offered most everything you can ask for from an episode of survivor

tony basically showed that nick is his puppet and that he can control jeremy and michelle of he needs to

Having explored more Survivor communities now, you guys are not the norm. Not that there is anything wrong with that but with how intimate this group is your voices are also very loud.

this. idk about casuals but the survivor superfans are mostly loving this episode. it brought everything good about the show. amazing strategy, crazy drama and a blindside.

tony is returning to form with his mass chaos and it is topped off by a masterful strategic play using deception and his seemingly infinite social capital.

I don't care about the strength of the move (and it's questionable if it's even good, because we're only one season removed from Kelley, Wardog and Ron all making #bigmovez to take out David, Kelly and Wardog, respectively, only to get blindsided the very next episode because they painted a huge target on their backs). I just find it annoying that Sophie, who I find a smart and sarcastic personality, gets blindsided for being Sarah's +1, after we spent literally 90% of the episode following Tony and only Tony. I want to see the CAST, not just ONE person getting the entire edit to revolve around them. I'm just really disappointed by the post-merge edit (especially on the heels of an awful pre-merge boot order.)

i feel like this episode is already being touted by most as by far the best of the season and one of the best in a long time.
