You know, I think the best sign I've seen a protester hold up so far said something like this:

Not all black people are criminals.
Not all white people are racists.
Not all police officers are corrupt.
We are stronger together.

Some great stories of unity are coming out of these protests this past weekend. Take Flint, Michigan, where the chief of police put down his gear and baton and marched with the protesters down the street in unity. Take the community near where I live, where similarly the police joined the protesters, listened to their complaints, and discussed paths of understanding and moving forward. There was no looting done in those areas. There was no police brutality in those areas. No violent riots. One can hope there was a step toward healing, but time will tell.

The media loves drama though, as do social media posters, so those stories take a back seat to the more violent confrontations going on in this country, where police and protesters lose their cool and lash out in violence. The videos are damning. Police are lashing out in very irresponsible and daresay criminally negligent ways, making matters worse by assaulting people who aren't even being aggressive. Yet, I guarantee you on some right-wing message board somewhere, they are sharing videos of rioters looting, beating up store owners, etc., and having a big old circle jerk on how these protesters are animals and out of control. Very similar to the way you guys are going at it with the police videos.

In many of these videos, it's like each side is antagonizing the other, just waiting for them to overreact to something so they can catch it on camera. We see cops assaulting people who aren't doing anything wrong. We see protesters antagonizing and egging on cops to react in some way. What does that solve? How does that fix the problem we have in this country? All it's doing is creating a bigger divide. Nothing good can come out of that.

It's easy to get caught up in all the violent confrontations, I admit I did as well. It's just so destructive to the issue at hand. It's reinforcing the stereotypes both sides have on one another. I think it's important to take a deep breathe and remember that not all cops are violent like this, not all protesters are violent like this. Some communities did this the right way, and they sure as hell have a better chance of healing than these places of conflict do.

Its the cops job and responsibility to always do it the right way

It's also important to note that he's once again foisting the onus of responsibility entirely on other people. I'm sure that he, as President of the United States, could easily step in where the governors can't. But he won't, almost as though he knows it looks terrible for HIM if he does it.

It was a phrase used by a white police chief in Miami in 1967 who said, among other things, "We don't mind being accused of police brutality" about his "get tough" policy against civil rights protests and is thought to have intensified and contributed to riots.

It was also used by a notorious segregationist public safety commissioner from Birmingham, Alabama who directed the use of police dogs and fire hoses against black protestors.

And finally it was used by George Wallace in his 1968 presidential campaign.

Yes and its fucking hilarious that Trump claimed he didnt mean it that way

Him not actually dying doesn't remove that being a legitimate case of attempted murder. It's a horrible act either way.

He was attempting to murder people with a sword for trying to loot his store. Im glad hes not dead, but beating him down was self defense. I dont condone the stoning.

It's standard defense of your property.
If someone's looting your store, you got a right to defend yourself. I mean the classic case of this in riots would be the rooftop Koreans from the LA riots.

I mean... He looked pretty fucking close to dead and if he didn't get medical care as fast as he did probably would've been. He got his head bashed into a pavement with a skateboard from a prone position and had some massive cuts.

Why would they be awful people for having to downgrade it to attempted murder?

Theyre not awful people because of this. Theyre awful people already

They were deliberately lying about this to create a false counter-narrative that rioters were attacking and murdering innocent people

right. traffic.
having an open road is not traffic, it's not blocking anything. that's an open road to move on. you ain't blocked by s***.

meanwhile in that NYPD vid you've got people using a literal metal barricade and a massive amount of people pushing against it to block that car and others from moving forward. that is blocking traffic. so it steadily moved forward as it reached the block before pushing ahead.

I dont see how the clog of protesters that Heather Heyer was a part of werent also blocking traffic. They werent AGGRESSIVELY blocking traffic, but they were blocking traffic
