So I've seen my local news talk about how the percentage of positive cases has plummeted and this is a really good sign. Umm...hold the phone here...ever since our city opened up free, non-appointment, no-symptoms necessary drive up testing sites, every healthy Tom, Dick, and Harry who has a job has been going to get tested, I suspect in hopes that they are positive and can get a few weeks off of work. Obviously, that's wide assumption on everyone's motives, but I imagine it is a factor for many. Regardless, a lot more healthy people are getting tested now. So of course the percentage of positive tests will go down when you add hundreds of healthy people getting tested who would have previously been unable to. I just dont see why this statistic has any value.

yeah, you're delusional if you think the only thing moderates have been getting out of the protests and riots is "the looters/rioters suck." i'm sure plenty of them have been fucking terrified by the police brutality that has been going on.

Do you know any American moderates? Like, real ones. And I don't count - I am just anti-centrist, not moderate.

As a moderate/centrist, I agree with Mr. Lasastryke. I share both opinions that "the looters suck" and "terrified of the police brutality". Before this, I have always sided more on the side of police, acknowledging a few bad apples. This was a wake up call that it's not just a few bad apples, there is systematic aggression that our police force defaults to that really needs to be addressed. There have always been defenses for this ("you don't know what they have to deal with every day", "their lives are on the line", etc.), but a lot of the videos that have surfaced have shown a lot of unnecessary and uncalled for uses of force that no argument can really justify.

The problem is the looting/arson/destruction. It is the only thing that is fueling the Right right now. It's something they can latch onto amidst all this as a weapon against the movement, and I believe it's ultimately what's going to hinder the effects these protests could have had on real, lasting change. Having people defend the looting or shame others for calling out the looting, just because they don't want to say anything bad about the protesters, isn't helping either.

Tell that to businesses and communities that had everything torched to the ground, vandalized, and their livelihoods destroyed.

A lot of people in those communities are going to end up not giving a shit about sociopath cops when their lives were completely ruined and people are saying "Oh but you have insurance" and "Yeah, but it was for a good cause."

And guess what? They can't even speak out and say "Hey it's fucked up that my fucking life was demolished by some assholes in the name of this movement" and the far left will dogpile on them with whatabouts. And then you have what we had before: those people stay silent, seethe, and then vote Republican when the time comes.

You guys are severely underestimating how these riots are going to turn a lot of people who had lives ruined or who know people who had lives ruined. They looked at Trump trying to stop it and then they look at dopey Joe Biden talking about how to fix this cops need to learn how to shoot people in the legs instead. It's a no brainer. And I say all this while supporting the protests.

See that's what bothers me about all this. We aren't free to point out the faults within something without being labeled as a traitor to that movement. If you criticize anything about these protests, whether it be the looting, arson, assaults on shopowners, people baiting/antagonize police trying to get them to do something wrong, etc., you are labeled as being against the cause, a racist, a right-wing nut, etc.

It's like you have to believe that the protesters are right in everything they do and it's all justified or else you're not on their side. Life is more complicated than that. These protests are a good cause, but some things done during them are not.

This reminds me of the immigration debate a few years back. Around the time the wall was being discussed. To the Left, the immigrants could do no wrong. Nothing was their fault. They were perfect. To the Right, the immigrants were all evil, and there was nothing good about them. It was so black and white. But the reality is, that some of them are good, and others maybe didn't have such good intentions. But if you called any of that out, you were disowned by the other side. Same thing is happening here.

It's OKAY to criticize certain protesters if you are on the Left, just like it is OKAY to criticize certain police if you are on the Right.

Seen this happen to several great aunts/uncles and grandparents. Most recently, a great aunt of mine who has always been very physically and mentally agile, well into her 80s, has just recently, and quickly, took a mental decline for the worse, and is in a nursing home.

If the election was next week, Trump would have no chance. Several times before, Trump has dug himself into massive holes that would pretty much knockout most politicians in his position. But the election isnt next week, it's in November. This situation, along with coronavirus, will have some space between them and election day. I still don't think he will win, but I thought for sure he wouldnt win in 2016, so I'm not going to pretend it's not possible again.

I don't think anyone should be surprised there are a lot of doctored photos and fake/misleading stories on social media mixed in with the real stories. My local news station had a brief segment on a fact checking group that was going through social media posts and they brought up a few examples from both sides on fake posts/stories. Usually these kind of stories are easier to spot, but with all the craziness going on, it's pretty hard to tell the difference sometimes.

Could Trump have handled this any worse? The guy hides in the White House, and then stages this march to a church in true Fiona Moriarty-McLaughlin-like fashion, holds a bible up backwards and upside down and goes back. Apparently using tear gas to clear away the peaceful protesters there. Oh btw, when Trump was asked his favorite Bible verse in an interview a while back, he couldn't even name one. Then he threatens military action against the protesters while not denouncing at all the police's wrongdoing these last few days.

And boy has the video evidence been damning to the police. I scrolled a bit through reddit. Video capturing police pulling a man behind a barrier so they can beat him in private (they didnt know a camera was on them), a police officer planting a baton in a tackled protesters hand so he can beat it out of him, a policeman doing the same knee-neck hold on a protester that killed George Floyd.....I gotta say, my faith in the police at large has been broken quite a bit. There are definitely more bad apples, bad policies, bad behaviors amongst our police force than what I thought. They need to be better. There needs to be drastic change.

I still vehemently oppose the lootings, especially videos I've seen of looters beating up shop owners who are trying to defend their stores. There was a really sad video of a small group of looters using 2 by 4s to beat up an older husband and wife who were trying to protect their store. At one point, they get separated and the looters are beating on the woman, and the husband is trying desperately to get to her and he cant. Those looters should be in jail for assault and battery. They are scum, and I'm not going to shy away from saying that just because there are "bigger issues at hand".

I have seen horrible videos from both sides, and we have a joke of a President who is not capable of even executing a simple PR stunt much less tackle this complex issue. It sucks being an American right now.

You know, I think the best sign I've seen a protester hold up so far said something like this:

Not all black people are criminals.
Not all white people are racists.
Not all police officers are corrupt.
We are stronger together.

Some great stories of unity are coming out of these protests this past weekend. Take Flint, Michigan, where the chief of police put down his gear and baton and marched with the protesters down the street in unity. Take the community near where I live, where similarly the police joined the protesters, listened to their complaints, and discussed paths of understanding and moving forward. There was no looting done in those areas. There was no police brutality in those areas. No violent riots. One can hope there was a step toward healing, but time will tell.

The media loves drama though, as do social media posters, so those stories take a back seat to the more violent confrontations going on in this country, where police and protesters lose their cool and lash out in violence. The videos are damning. Police are lashing out in very irresponsible and daresay criminally negligent ways, making matters worse by assaulting people who aren't even being aggressive. Yet, I guarantee you on some right-wing message board somewhere, they are sharing videos of rioters looting, beating up store owners, etc., and having a big old circle jerk on how these protesters are animals and out of control. Very similar to the way you guys are going at it with the police videos.

In many of these videos, it's like each side is antagonizing the other, just waiting for them to overreact to something so they can catch it on camera. We see cops assaulting people who aren't doing anything wrong. We see protesters antagonizing and egging on cops to react in some way. What does that solve? How does that fix the problem we have in this country? All it's doing is creating a bigger divide. Nothing good can come out of that.

It's easy to get caught up in all the violent confrontations, I admit I did as well. It's just so destructive to the issue at hand. It's reinforcing the stereotypes both sides have on one another. I think it's important to take a deep breathe and remember that not all cops are violent like this, not all protesters are violent like this. Some communities did this the right way, and they sure as hell have a better chance of healing than these places of conflict do.

I am well aware that leadership in many forms is not in favor of the looters and I at no time claimed that 100% of the left are in favor of them. Users like UshiromiyaEva attacked me in the previous topic for condemning the looters, in which they said, in their own words, that "it is the police's fault, directly or indirectly". Another user concurred. So there was at least a couple on here that seemed to take offense to my criticism of the looting and those are the ones to whom I was addressing.

I honestly try to stay centered in political debates, but I just can't stand by and watch people condone looting and arson. George Floyd's own family is condemning this behavior and saying that it is taking the attention away from what the protests are really all about. I am just dumbfounded that people on here are excusing that behavior.

For the record, I think what happened to George Floyd was a disgrace. Those officers should be tried and found guilty. And these protests are frankly necessary as racial inequality, especially in regard to dealings with law enforcement, are in a bad place. None of this excuses looting and arson.

Ah yes, my fellow comrades! Does anyone know where I can upload my address so I can donate my house and car to be looted and torched by the protesters? I mean clearly, there is nothing wrong at all with looting, vandalizing, and torching businesses and personal property in the name of this protest, and I just want to volunteer my little slice of the pie. Hell, if I'm okay with them destroying someone else's home and vehicle, I should be okay with them doing that to mine.

After all, any act of looting or vandalism is clearly the police's fault. I know this because i saw a video online of police shooting a can of tear gas into a group of protesters. This obviously means that I am allowed to break into and loot the nearest jewelry store. Those darn police. It's all their fault.

Trump wouldn't be doing this if it wasnt for the looters and arsonists. In fact, the Right wouldnt have a leg to stand on in this if it wasn't for the looters and arsonists. They have become the distraction these protests didnt need, because they provided the scapegoat for the Right to have a justified reason to hate the protests.

It's actually scary to see how quickly our nation's police force have become ineffective to stop the looting and arson all across the country. I guess we're all not as safe as we thought. This juxtaposed with Trumps demand for militarization and martial law. It's like the two extremes of law & order clashing head to head.

You know, this is just another example of how partisan this country has become on every single issue. Look at CNNs website, and the front page focus is exclusively on the protests themselves and White House's response. Go to Fox News website and the focus is exclusively on the looting and property damage. If you criticize the looting to someone on the left, you are called a racist. If you criticize Derek Chauvins actions to the right, they call you antifa scum.

Can't someone both be against what Derek Chauvin did, and support justice, but also be against the opportunistic looting and property damage going on, which is affecting innocent business owners who are just coming out of months of closure due to Covid? Both sides are doing wrong things here. And its the intense partisanship in this country that causes people to not even acknowledge that because they are too busy pointing their finger at the other side.

Completely agreed. There were a few polls conducted that demonstrated a solid majority (70%+) support social distancing guidelines and have great hesitation in socializing like normal. It's just that it seems in practice a lot of people figure it doesn't really need to apply to them specifically and they're betting on others to follow guidelines to make their own breach less of a problem.

This is one of the arguments people who have been violating the stay at home order since day 1 have been making. I initially looked at those people with shock. Like, how could they be so irresponsible, selfish, and careless? But a month has gone by and despite them seeing everyone and going everywhere, they never got the virus nor have anyone they've known. Obviously, this is just a short sample size of the people I know personally that have been breaking the stay at home order, but the longer this goes on, it's creating a false sense of security in people who are following the orders. If my friend isnt getting the virus by going to see his family and friends every other day, what are the chances I'd get the virus if I go see someone once?

The other new argument that's coming up is how long are we suppose to avoid our older relatives? Until a vaccine? Am i not supposed to physically see my mom for a year or two? Is that really the only responsible approach? If you say, "after the stay at home order is lifted, you can see her" or "wait a few more months and you can see her." Well, the coronavirus will still be around at that point, so I have as much chance of giving it to her now as I would giving it to her later. Until we both get vaccinated.

I just feel like I'm slowly turning to the other side on this. Every day they seem to be the more reasonable and my own the less reasonable.

There are a couple food processing plants in our state that have had coronavirus breakouts. My sister used to live near one where she taught Spanish speaking students. A lot of their parents were illegal immigrants who worked at one of the plants. I can imagine this would add an extra layer of complexity to the situation, as they may be more hesitant to seek healthcare, or even stay home when sick.

Social distancing fatigue is starting to penetrate my inner circle. My coworker (a strict follower of social distancing) admitted to an extended family get together this weekend. My mother called and is trying to get me to come over for Mother's Day (havent seen her since stay at home order in place, she's also been a strict follower supposedly).

The nice weather this weekend didn't help. I myself am starting to break down a bit on my hardnose stay at home stance. I mean, what's a little get together gonna hurt? Surely they have a much better chance of getting infected at a grocery store than by a small family visit?

And let's be honest, this isn't going away until a vaccine comes out. If people are already experiencing quarantine fatigue now, just wait until the summer fully kicks in.

It's like she went through that whole recovery process just to continue to be the same weak, ineffective avatar who spends half her battles lying on the ground or unconscious. I mean Korra did absolutely nothing in the final fight until the very end, and even that was an accident.

I think that was my problem with the series as it went along. Each season was just a recycling of the previous one. Main baddie seems altruistic at first only to discover more sinister intentions. Korra getting her ass kicked and being relatively ineffective until the very last moment of the season finale. It just started getting old and frustrating that she didn't seem to grow as an Avatar from her experiences. Also, season 4 suffered a bit from "too many characters syndrome" that some shows tend to get.

Looking back, season 2 had its faults. It had maybe the worst developed main bad of any season (I still don't understand the reasoning of his endgame), and it had a few other flaws. While I did like the Avatar origin story, it did have some possible contradictions with existing ATLA lore, which does put a slight damper on it. Also, I did not like her losing her connection to past avatars permanently.

I guess my ranking for the moment would be 1,3,4,2.

So I just finished watching all of Legend of Korra for the first time directly after my 3rd runthrough of the original series.

Quick take on Legend of Korra: I really enjoyed season 1, which was a standalone mini-series originally. A year later they added season 2-4. The season 1 finale was maybe one of my favorite avatar episodes ever, definitely my favorite finale (this is including the originals).

Season 2-3 were still good. Especially when season 2 explained the origins of the Avatar, which I found very interesting. But they made Korra too weak. And I know they were just trying to make her human, but dang it, she's the avatar and you can only stomach seeing them get trounced upon so many times.

Season 4 was horrible. Worst finale ever. And that's sad because it was the last one.

one thing that kind of bugs me...and I don't catch a lot of Presidential news briefings, maybe 1 every week. But every time I watch, without fail, there is a reporter that asks the President, in increasingly creative and confrontational ways, about his slow response to the pandemic. Look, I think we can all agree that the administration was initially slow to respond in several areas. Granted, almost every world leader was slow to respond, but let's table that and just admit that our own administration could have acted quicker in some areas.

What is the point though, other than just trying to stir up partisan bullshit, of continuing to repeat this line of questioning over and over again, every news briefing. I get it, the left's sole purpose is to make the administration look bad, and the right's sole purpose is to put the administration on a pedestal, but it just gets so tiring to see this endless chess match unfold even amidst a global pandemic. I would love to watch just one nonpartisan news briefing, where the administration doesn't lie or over exaggerate and where the press doesn't just sit there cherry picking anything bad they can find to try and make the administration look bad.

Good timing, I just got done with my third watchthrough and have started my first watchthrough of Legend of Korra. I'm on the second season and am very into the show so far.

I agree more or less with your rankings, though I don't think Avatar Day should be dead last. That should belong to Ember Island Players. I have some disagreements with a few other episodes I think you placed too low, but I agree with more than I don't. I'll be interested in seeing how the top of your list looks.
