Interesting interpretation, not that I agree.

Romes187 posted...
I always thought the fire beast was the "corruption" of the female spirit by male greed, pride, etc (hence maui trying to steal the heart of the ocean as an offering to humans for his own vanity's sake)

and the ocean (probably symbolizing pure potential or chaos in folklore) for some reason attempts to right this wrong. This is where it deviates from the standard archetype. Normally its a male spirit that brings order, but I guess this is almost symbolizing revolution where its so corrupt, and order is too high that things just need to break and restart.

Okay, to add to this, I can see that the ocean would want to make amends between the corrupted spirit and the human population by bringing a human envoy to be the one to right the wrong. This interpretation makes more sense.

Given how the story resolved, all the ocean needed to do was bring it within visible distance of the fire dude, then it'd take care of the rest. I suppose you have a point questioning if the ocean had that knowledge of what to do. But I would argue that the ocean should be well aware of the origin of the fire dude.

Basically the ocean was an entity with its own mind and could physically interact and nonverbally communicate with Moana. It could create a wave to pick up items, move Moana, basically whatever it wanted with the water. It's used for comedic effect most of the time, but here lies the problem; it could have carried the important story item to the "big bad" by itself and solved the problem; thereby removing the need for Moana to go on the journey to do it for the ocean.

I had a discussion with some friends after this and the general belief was that resolution to the problem had to be carried out by humans to show what humans can achieve, but that was too weak of an argument for me.

My one of my beef(s?) with the show was that Moana was supposedly hypercompetent like the scene where's she bouncing off of walls to get to roof to fix a leak for a villager request. But they didn't utilize that aspect anywhere else. It's different compared to Judy in Zootopia where she was at a genetic/species disadvantage so she had to know her stuff and perform at peak performance. My other more prominent issue is that the ocean was WAY too powerful of an entity that made me question whole point of the story in the first place.

Honestly, I'm convinced the black populace will get nowhere until we properly assess all of black culture and the economic problems. Yes, we're generally poorer, but we also have a cultural problem where we don't have nuclear families and people are growing up in an environment where the "gangsta life" is a glamorized. These are important.

In my district, we had a shooting a couple months ago where an argument broke out over dominoes at 2 in the morning and it ended with someone whipping out their gun and killing someone. In my neighborhood last month, I had a neighbor lose his life to gang violence. I had a friend who was incarcerated for a year and while he was in there, he basically acted as the resident therapist (he went all out with scented candles and other stuff) for both the COs and the other prison mates. The guys who were in there told him that they never had people to talk with them in such a way to sort out and articulate on their feelings.

My point is that we're going the wrong way with addressing black issues by going after cops. There's a lot of problems we can take control over in our own communities that will directly influence our interactions with the police.

You can use your school as a medium to network for connections to companies at least but your degree isn't going to get your foot in the door. The market is saturated with degree holders, especially in the STEM field so what will stand out is either who you know and is willing to take you on or your ability to impress folks with your coding skills through what you've accomplished.

People did go out to vote for Bernie. But there was literal voter suppression going on. In addition, there was a very careful coordination of other candidates dropping out and endorsing Biden just before Super Tuesday, while Warren staying in the ranks to usurp Bernie's potential voting base and prevent Bernie from being able to take on Biden.

I sincerely don't understand how people can ignore the blatant favoritism among the Democratic party and their control over the media to distort information on Yang and Bernie and still claim "Vote Blue, no matter who". Even worse, Biden is coming in with a whole host of scandals like Ukraine and wiretapping Trump's campaign in 2016.

Scientists and experts in all the relevant fields were desperately pleading with the Trump administration for MONTHS to take this shit seriously.

Yeah, in March. Everyone's favorite anonymous basketweaving forum had been monitoring it since December (me personally, January). This pandemic has me convinced that most of the population just isn't good at foresight. And given how politicians, to get into office, they don't need to demonstrate foresight, it's not surprisingly how badly so many fucked up. Couple this with our "fuck you, got mine" attitude and individualistic culture and it's no wonder why we still have so many Corona-chan issues up to now.

You need to watch the full video then, because you can see the police struggling to pull him out of the vehicle. This is the reason why they had him pinned to the ground in the first place. They weren't taking any chances. And this also corroborates with the police autopsy of finding the described conditions she mentioned and their key detail that the airways were left undamaged, which means the knee pin wasn't the cause of him being unable to breathe. You could also see Floyd moving his neck around on the ground, another visible evidence that the pin wasn't choking him.

People are paying attention to these things. The fact that no one is calling for a discussion on her points and are only flinging the "X is racist!" card is completely detrimental to seeing any significant change. For us to make any progress, black culture must be put under scrutiny. If you compare black cultural trends versus the mindset needed to generate wealth, you'll see they're completely at odds with one another.

For example, having strong familial ties is a key asset in creating generational wealth. People love to prop up being self made and shine the spotlight solely on it (looking at you, Forbes) but I'm convinced that's a psyop to encourage people down the wrong path of making money so they can fail. People complain about Trump's "small loan" of $1 million and mentorship from his father, but that's how you create a grand wealth. Zuckerberg's father taught him to code, Bezos' parents gave him funding for $250K for Amazon. Having that familial component is a large factor in a lot of people's significant wealth creation.

Having a complete core nuclear family means there's more income coming into the house, and more importantly, children have fathers. My mother is a school nurse and she can tell you about the behavioral problems that manifest in a kid from a fatherless home. It's easily recognizable and apparent to teachers and other staff. Kids act out for attention (think Naruto), girls don't have strong male role models to aspire to look for in a partner, and boys look for other role models to aspire to become which leaves them malleable to the gangsta nonsense that dominates our culture.

Mind you, in my own circle growing up, having both parents in the house was not the norm for me Probably a good half of my friend circle lived with their single mother (though others had extended family living with them to make up for it). I would feel slight guilt that I was one of the "privileged" ones for something as fundamental as this. What's worse is that a number of my close female friends (we're in our late 20s, early 30s) are single mothers for one reason or another, from dating a guy too egotistical yet charming, or depressed (but charming), or whatever. This needs to be addressed.

There are other big advantages from having a core family and even more so with grandparents living with the family, from kids getting more exposure between different generations and parents getting breaks from raising kids which gives them more energy and time to perform better in their roles. And I'm glossing over the financial benefits as well. But I want to illustrate the the major gulf the haves and have-nots.

https://www.nytimes.com/1985/06/02/magazine/restoring-the-traditional-black-family.html

If we want to make real progress in supporting the black community, these are the conversations that need to be had.

I feel like when I finally get around to playing it, I'm gonna be very disappointed because peeps hype the fuck out of it.

I'll warn you right now that the game is INSANELY divisive. When the game first came out, people either absolutely loved it, or thought it was overhyped gutter trash. There was rarely any middleground for the game. But what's undeniable is that the gameplay is super unique and was one of the few games that singlehandedly justified the existence of the DS. By that I mean it utilized the DS in ways that couldn't be possible on another system to create its gaming experience. In addition, the game is cohesive in all parts with its design. The artstyle, the fact that the setting is in Tokyo, the music, it's ALL JAPANESE. Some people didn't take too kindly and felt that it's "too anime for them".

The Switch version, while it doesn't have the insanity of the dual screen action, I feel you can somewhat replicate the DS version game play by playing co-op mode, solo. I feel it fits the story much better since you and your partner fight on the same screen together as opposed to the DS version where each screen is essentially a different dimension but you still fight the same enemies.

I'd talk about the story, but that's left not mentioning. I'll say that the people who thought Neku was "2edgy4me" (just wait till you see the trailer for this shindig) and dropped the game because of him need to STFU and play the ****ing game.

I'd post music as one of TWEWY's songs popped up on my playlist just now, but... we can wait for the trailer.

Ever watched Made in Abyss. It's basically Etrian Odyssey (if you played the DS series, if not never mind) the adventure, where a couple of kids descend into the "Abyss" that has multiple levels and the further down they descend, the more dangerous the monsters are, and more importantly, the more dangerous the effects are if you decide to return by ascending back home. Come back up from the first level and you'll feel the effects of nausea as you traverse around every 10 meters. Coming up from deeper levels and the pain and discomfort increases. On the 4th level, you start bleeding out from every orifice as you ascend. Go down even more further and try to come back, up, oh man it just awful what happens next. Mind you, this is in no shape or form a horror anime. It's just to show the gravity of how dangerous these expeditions to the Abyss are.

The music is fantastic, composed by an Australian a little younger than you. And the animation is fantastic. I'm not a shotacon or whatever, but I won't pass up the chance to shill a good series to someone who might appreciate it in more ways than one.

Would you say this about any AAA game that gets universal praise from critics though? I highly doubt it and the big reason for this is politics.

I'd play it safe and say yes, assume it applies to all. These are products at the end of the day and with these sky high budgets and multiyear development cycles, companies are going to want to do anything they can to recoup costs and post a profit, especially when they allocate marketing budgets almost the size of their development budgets.

You can still get a general feeling by looking at what the players have to say and if they align with the reviewers. For instance, Breath of the Wild has had unanimous praise all around and in addition, we've had numerous gameplay footage and people getting hyped off of it, an incredible amount of support, funding, and interest in developing a Wii U emulator for the PC just to play it, and people talk positively about it to this day. The scoring awarded may be debatable, but it is an organic critically acclaimed game. It's safe to say that the reviewers weren't going overboard with their praise of BotW even with the Switch's (and subsequently Nintendo's) lifeline riding on its success.

The main point I want to get across is to not hold professional reviewers to a higher standard than literally any other gamer opinion. Given how they're paid to pump out new content as much as possible and as rapidly as possible and there's a legitimate threat of being blacklisted, you can be sure they can't be totally honest about their time playing the game. If you have personalities you trust, then go for it, but I say this for paid professionals of a consumer hobby product review in general.

That's a huge claim. What are you basing that on?

You weren't around on social media back in 2013, it seems. Allow me to remind you of the story of Trayvon Martin. When it was first reported, CNN phrased the headlines (paraphrased) "Half White Man Kills Black Boy". Then you see a bunch of news outlets use photos of Trayvon when he was younger (he was taller than Zimmerman during the ordeal and this was an important detail used to corroborate with a witness' account). Even worse, MSNBC doctored the audio to make Zimmerman look like he was more racist to make it seem like a hate crime and drum up support.

The worst part about all of this? The news media got away scott-free in misreporting the news story that started the divide in our great country. That should tell you right then and there that the media tailoring a narrative to get a reaction out of people. They've been doing this for years, and it's not just limited to racial stories, they've done this against Bernie and Yang during the heat of the primary season. There's a reason why CNN and the like have been associated with "Fake News"; they've earned it.

What I like about this video is how badly it demoralized the girl to have the experience of being a guy. I don't hear much about how dating sites kill the self-esteem and confidence of males while you always hear about women on Tinder for confidence boosts. Though I suppose being a female could be a factor in wanting to be accepted so she'd be more vulnerable to this sort of thing.

Trenton would be a good boys name.
Have a friend I grew up with with that name. Last I checked, he is in the military.

I "believe" in the moonlanding since I have a physics background and am aware of how science has always been hundreds of years ahead of technology. I know where to look and have the training to understand the technology and theory if I so chose to "verify" the authenticity of the landing.

One thing I'm curious about is if you have zero technical training and are going off of trusting our great engineers, why look down on people who don't believe their words or are challenging them? You're basing your belief off of trust here so what makes your stance better than theirs?

The whole purpose of science is to have every theory scrutinized to help us get closer to the truth, or the best explanation what is observed. If someone's challenging something as simple as why the sky is blue, flex your knowledge. They still don't believe, move on. If too many people disbelieve in it, then there's a cultural problem and arguing isn't going to change things.

These types of events are why I respect journalism. That being said, I wonder how far she'll get with this lawsuit. She is essentially in a war zone. How do you sue someone in this environment?

Based on the information here, this should be an open and shut case of the panicked drunkard obviously being in the wrong. Why would I want a drunkard who stole a weapon from the police and got into a scuffle with them to get away?

Eh, I'm good with whatever subpar level of intellect I have. I'd much rather have drive, discipline and a passion to the point of obsession over whatever goals I have. If you look at Masahiro Sakurai who created the Smash Bros series, the guy spends ALL his time involved with games. If he's not developing games, he's busy playing games, even when watching a movie or working out. Satoshi Nakamoto, one of the great heroes of our time, he created the Bitcoin because he was that passionate about reducing the power difference between the central banks and the common man.

Yes, intelligence is necessary, but passion, having that kind of shonen level of obsession is what will lead you to do renowned feats.
