This is an interesting topic because I once had someone tell me they actually don't literally pronounce the Katakana and often just say the English word with a Japanese accent.

The contents of this topic heavily contradicts what I was told there. I know I've heard fairly accurate pronunciation in anime sometimes. The reverse being true in dubs too. In the English dub of Beastars, they say Haru with the Japanese "not r but not l" sound that doesn't exist in English. (Also, Legoshi is correct and fan translators just outright got it wrong assuming shi wasn't intended.)

It's a bizarre thing to see President Trump repeat something that makes sense then go on Twitter rants that contradict what he just said.

The USA is a HUGE country. It's hard to understand just how big it is. A one size fits all approach really doesn't work long term, so yes it has to be based on science and must take regional considerations into effect.

Oddly the website I got this from is trying to show Europe is bigger than you'd think. Yes, I'd expect a bunch of countries combined to be rather large.

Moderates are the only ones that represent a majority of the country. Bring on ranked choice elections to get these polarized clowns out. Ranked choice means a third party vote isn't a vote for the worse of the two extremes.

I'm actually glad Biden got the nomination. He's far from perfect, but at least he isn't a pie-in-the-sky wish-master that doesn't give a care half the country disagrees with their goals like some on the far left.

I like Bernie. I kind of like Elizabeth Warren. I think AOC is completely unrealistic in her wish list. Any of those three probably would have handed Trump another term because they are probably unelectable to moderates.

The phenomenon of Trump he himself explained when he was still a candidate:
He said his supporters would support him even if he shot someone in broad daylight. He was a laughingstock back then. Now far less people are laughing.

Basically, his supporters put their word in him as if he's a deity. Anything he says is truth, anything unfavorable to him is fake. It's classic cult of personality.

Now he's supporting news that only favors him, and even bashes Fox, which is clearly heavily biased in his favor. But heavily biased isn't enough for someone as narcissistic as President Trump. He must be unquestioned. All of his concerns and conspiracies must not only be acknowledged as legitimate, but outright true. Anything unfavorable to him must be downplayed or ignored.

And now he wants to investigate "unfair" bias against conservatives. What we are seeing is a full on war on political freedom in this country. He's going to go after anyone that says things unfavorable about him, or who disagree with him. And his supporters, like puppets, eat it all up. They are turning into enemies of political freedom; aggressors eating up propaganda that they are the ones being oppressed.

This MUST. NOT. HAPPEN. For the sake of this country, Trump and his far right allies must lose. Honorable Republicans need to take back that party ASAP.

I wish I saved the quote, but one of the clowns trying to purge voter rolls in Wisconsin said something along the lines of "everyone voting isn't necessarily a good thing, look at Cuba!" That kind of puts the true motivation for the purges right out in the open.

*Fun bonus fact, an aunt so brainwashed by far-right propaganda she sleeps with the raging talk radio hosts playing on the radio is all upset she might be purged, saying how it's the Democrats doing it. Uh... no.

Naw.

DEFINITELY Naw.

Basically all you need to know is that Kavanaugh ended those hearing complaining about liberals and anti-Trump conspiracies, which means he has absolutely no qualification to be on the Supreme Court, which is supposed to be the last bastion of partisan free politics left in the country.

This is of course not the case, but they are at least supposed to pretend.

It's very sad. Basically the only sliver of hope Wisconsin has of not being a de facto one-party state (with minority vote count holding a supermajority of power) is that the Wisconsin Supreme Court seats are filled by elections. Any other elected position the Republicans legislate power away from if they lose (and of course give power to if they win), and the state court is currently their rubber stamp machine. They gambled on the health of the people in the state that during a pandemic surely they could solidify their control of the court with lower liberal turnout, and they lost.

The bad part is even if the Republicans' blatant use of political power to stay in power is ended by the court no longer being a rubber stamp machine, the court will still have been politicized. It's very sad even the courts are now partisan tools.

Looks like the FBI seized Senator Richard Burr's phone to investigate insider trading on Congressional knowledge. The STOCK Act should be repealed; members of Congress should be free to trade on insider knowledge as much as they like IMO. Or at least, senators should be entitled to a trial in the Senate instead of through the regular court system, just like the members of the House of Lords were entitled when we broke off from Britain!

...you seriously just said they should be able to use private government information to make trades for personal gain, then said they should be subject to no scrutiny other than their own? What??

If he did nothing wrong, he did nothing wrong. He's been cooperating the whole time. However, to suggest there be essentially no oversight and to condone the Senate to use its knowledge for personal gain is insane.

Oh look the Republicans put Wisconsin into chaos, I'm so very surprised (sarcasm). I wonder how long until they try to make any popular vote position ceremonial, until they find a way to rig it like the state legislature so a minority of votes have absolute control.

It honestly would not surprise me if Republicans would be willing to see 10% or more die to protect thier investments. This virus will not kill that many, but I think I'm finally starting to understand the Republican stupidity here. It's not that they ignore reality; they are willing to let people suffer and die because thier thralls only care about what they see in person.

I have had an account for years
no idea who this other preston is

there will be no vaccine anytime soon. If it was guaranteed this year than obviously I would shift me tune

unless you are willling to shelter in place off and on indefinitely for the next few years than most people will get. Thats assuming we even find a safe vaccine.

if we dont find it in next 1-2 years than everyone will get eventually.

The R of 40 people are those who assume we find a vaccine within a year and shelter in place most of the time. If its two years than it will be closer to 70% assuming we still shelter.

are you willing to do shelter in place for 1-2 more years in hopes that we find a vaccine?

all for a virus with a death rate of less than 1% of which the average age of death is 75-80.

This is absolutely crazy to me that there are people willing to do that without a guarantee of a vaccine

so go live life man.

be respectful of others and stop living in fear

at what time are you willing to tap out?

how long are you willing to shelter in place without a guarantee of a vaccine?

The fastest a safe and effective vaccine has been created is 4 years.

even if we halve that to two years than 70% or more of people will already of had even with shelter laws

do some research, talk to virologists and stop believing articles from only a few sources or a few tv stations. Research ones from multiple countries and multiple outlets.

most of you will tap out one day and say f it Cause a vaccine is not around the corner

The idea is to not overwhelm facilities. No crowded dense gatherings until a vaccine doesn't mean shelter in place for years.

The story has been consistent from day one. Some just don't want to act based on actual science and medical professionals and frankly don't care if there is more death and suffering if they can get things moving a few weeks sooner.

You can't dictate a pandemic, and you must act based on reality. I'm just floored how enthralled some people are to listen to loud angry people who are essentially professional whiners over scientists and doctors working off of data.

Sheltering in place will end up costing millions of lives more than the covid will.

We wont decrease the amount of deaths if we continue to shelter in place....we will make it 10x worse cause the side effect deaths will be added in top of the covid deaths.

Its not your fault if you sneeze without a mask on in public and a person next to you gets and brings home to grandma who dies

Idealists not voting or voting for third party candidates that stand no chance is something I will never understand.

Look at my home state of Wisconsin to see what is at risk here. The Republican party no longer sees political freedom as a value.. With a minority popular vote they hold supermajority control over the state and rigged it with gerrymandering to keep it that way. When they lose a popular vote seat, they gut its power. That have a rubber stamp court that allows this.

Proving how little the party cares about people, or how thier hated for "liberals" runs so deep, they put people to the polls in a pandemic fully knowing Milwaukee had 5 of 180 polling stations open. They did that to reduce turnout in Democratic areas to not lose thier rubber stamp Supreme Court.

Political freedom in Wisconsin is pretty much in its deathbed. The Republicans' attempt to steal that Supreme Court seat backfired, and unless there is a miracle Wisconsin is essentially a one party state with minority popular vote control.

The Republicans already refused to see Supreme Court nominees for a president not under thier party.

Keep sticking to unrealistic ideals and stay home from the polls and this may be a one party country in a few years, with Republican hatred amplified to the point it's unsafe to voice opposition.

Look to Wisconsin to see what is at stake. We have a party that snubs the notion of human rights abusing political power to ensure they stay in power.

The base is totally enthralled, cares nothing for objective facts, and treats angry talk radio hosts like cult leaders.

I am genuinely worried they will flip the switch and claim an iron fist is necessary to stop the "liberals" (said with utter hatred) from enacting socialism.

We still have time to stop the far right takeover, but look to Wisconsin to see the risks. Look to Hungary. This is a very dire situation.

The heroic Republicans that are decent people are becoming fewer and fewer, demonized by the far right.

The center must rise, and people need a reality check that half the country doesn't want idealistic left wing nonsense imposed on them. Keep demanding that or nothing and truly dangerous people in the far right will entrench themselves and end political freedom.

WARNING:
There is a bug in the Mirage Palace dungeon that can permanently end a run, so if you're on the Kevin/Charlotte route make sure you back up your game so you can start that dungeon over if it hits you. I'm not sure if SE support has been convinced it's real yet, but their copy/paste response has been "use a guide" to people reporting it.

One thing of note, the permanent stat up items are limited to 10 per game, and that limit crosses over in New Game+, so think very hard on who you want to give them to.

Also, the PC version has a very active modding community. So far there are character model tweaks/swaps, eliminating the charge crystal sound, eliminating the quest markers, eliminating the red "attack is coming" zones, and a "very hard mode" mod that changes the stats of all the enemies (and can be customized).

Because they used Unreal Engine 4, the modding community has sprung up very quickly for the PC version. I'm not sure if there's a mod for it yet, but it's also possible to edit saves to go back to level 1 for New Game+ if you don't want level to carry over.

Basically, they took all the criticism about Secret of Mana's remake and took it to heart and it paid off very well.

The most absolutely nauseating thing is people are going to be dumb and use distancing working as "proof" it was never necessary.

Some Republicans I know are just blunt about it: most people dying would be dead in a few years anyway, so the economy's more important they say. Others are either brainwashed by talk radio nut jobs or so addicted to conspiracy theories they have little conception of what the real world is actually like.

I mean, there is a significant chunk of the Republican party that thinks the Republicans are better at protecting coverage for existing preexisting medical conditions and that coverage is at risk if Democrats win, despite the fact that Republicans have fought extremely hard to end those protections ever since they were made law.

Kylo literally being a wannabe Vader was brilliant and worked very well I think. It was a very good decision to do that rather than attempt to make another Vader. I do like the three leads too, though I think the total lack of planning ruined what could have been far better arcs for the characters over the trilogy.

I don't call some bad things happening to the older characters edgy, but when the best that can be said for them is "there were good times too" many years in the past and all the older heroes' lives are depressing messes before they die, that I call edgy. It's "bold" to treat favorite characters like that, and that's why I call it edgy.

It reminds me of Chrono Cross, with the game doing similarly off screen to four of the heroes of Chrono Trigger. Crono and Marle/Nadia? Dalton messed with the timeline and their southern neighbor got militarized, invaded Guardia, and presumably killed them. Lucca? She adopted a mysterious child and opened an orphanage... before the villain burned it to the ground and killed her. Robo/Prometheus? Deleted on screen. True many of those events may have been affected by the end of the game, but it wasn't well received there either.

It's the trendy thing to do too. Star Trek has done it too lately, with Star Trek Picard killing Icheb in a completely unnecessarily gory scene. Hugh's death was completely pointless too, but at least that wasn't horror movie material.

So yeah that seems to be trendy when making sequels, so I call it edgy. I like all three of the above. Torturing older characters is a trend that is annoying to me though.

Rogue One > Solo >= The Rise of Skywalker > The Force Awakens >> The Last Jedi

I wish Solo did better. I think it deserves better than it got.

It is a real shame they not only didn't have lore and plot planned at the start, but also unfathomably gave the second movie in a trilogy to some other random person rather than keeping things cohesive. It's so much wasted potential.

Personally, I think The Rise of Skywalker salvaged the mess TLJ left fairly well.

I think it's really dumb they sidelined Rose though. I didn't despise TLJ but I liked Rose and them caving to her hate mob is really sad. I also liked the "arrogantly snubbing authority to be heroically reckless" can have dire consequences part of the plot.

The thing about TLJ I hate most of all is the nonsensical idea that a republic of thousands of star systems would easily fall due to losing ONE star system, and in a rotating capitol system at that. It's not like Starkiller Base was still operational either. The giant fleet in TRoS made me very happy, and made way more sense than the nonsense situation in TLJ. Instead of involving the New Republic it was nonsensically defeated off screen.

I urge you not to judge Dark Souls based on its first few minutes. It has an amazing interconnected game world that makes use of vertical space in a way most 3D games ignore. It's kind of like a Metroid game in game world flow, without the "unlock equipment to proceed" factor (most of the time). In fact I would go so far as to say it's more Metroid-like than some of the Metroid Prime games (I'm not sure if 3 uses vertical space as much as Dark Souls, but 1 and 2 definitely don't).

I like to compare its combat to Mega Man, since the "recognize patterns, and adapt to them" factor is what it's all about most of the time.

Currently doing a Priest run on the default difficulty (the middle one).

Hexen also did something smart with the difficulty settings; on higher difficulties weapons are placed in different places, and unlike doom - monster that respawn don't always respawn as themselves, they can respawn as a basic Ettin instead.

I missed a few secrets already 'cuz I forgot you can jump in Hexen.

I think Doom supports weapons appearing in different places based on difficulty but it might not be as obviously done in the maps.

The respawn thing is different though:
Raven (the developer) added scripting to the game. So the respawning enemies tend to be a script popping in enemies in specific locations. They usually, but not always, check how many are up before doing so. I'm not sure if the highest level difficulty in Hexen also does the respawn thing, but the scripting factor is a huge change.

Considering I adore Hexen, I can't believe I never played Deathkings.

Doesn't frost shards have a melee attack too? I could swear I remember firing it close range with no projectile sound. If not, I made that memory up.

no resource ranged weapon, with precise aim, nearly instant projectile, pierces targets, 2hp damage per shot, and fires around twice per second.

...and can stun lock many enemies. I particularly remember using it vs. centaurs.

The lightning attack is pretty insane too. I never figured out exactly why, but it seemed to pierce the Heresiarch's invulnerability spell sometimes.

Yeah totally. We're all going to die.

I said our country, as in its core principles of human rights and freedom, not our lives. The last few decades of painting liberals as an enemy, largely with straw man arguments in weird almost ritualistic hate discussions judging from my relatives, has a very real risk of having indoctrinated far right people convinced "the Marxists" (as in anyone that doesn't tow the far right line) are an enemy and somehow the aggressors. With that extreme hatred and obsession for guns, someone who actually tells people to pull the trigger against dissenters is a very real threat. All they have to do is continue the lie that elections are rigged, something that used to be a lie only in the most extremist wings of the Republican party, but our liar in chief has brought mainstream (thankfully some conservative commentators have the backbone to call out that lie, but more and more seem to be driven away if they question Trump).

It's not that killing God bothers me, its that every Persona ending from 3 on plays out the exact same, defeat real world villain, discover theres an evil God masterminding everything for no reason and then use the power of friendship to defeat it. You can swap out the endings of 4-5 and literally nothing changes.

Like goddanm does the Persona team have any writing originality?

Anime tropes are terrible in general with this problem, where if you see how a character looks and know little about them you may know exactly how they will react to every situation; cookie cutter cardboard stereotypes with copy/paste "depth."

I love JRPGs, but they really need to try to break from expected clichs and character templates.

Authoritarianism is defined by how you accomplish your goals, not having goals to begin with.

Let's see, massive waves of personal attacks mixing both childish insults with accusations of corruption and incompetence. In regimes were the authoritarian atmosphere is already established, this flags without direct command for thralls to intimidate if not outright kill the target. Trump did this, numerous times, to people serving our country that didn't exactly fall in step with his version of reality or plans. Where it's not bad enough to get thralls to do the dirty work; it's enough to ruin political careers of anyone that dares question what the ones in charge say. Look at how conservatives shamefully talk about someone like John McCain now, who is a man who stood up for what he believed in and what this country stands for and openly sounded the warning alarms.

Enthralling people so they get their news ONLY from "trusted" sources, ignoring the majority of others, and publicly vilifying even majorly complacent news sources, such as Fox News being called "too liberal" and a new, more obedient "news" network being founded.

Use of policy to punish those not loyal to the party in power. Some Republicans say this isn't even a problem even if Trump is guilty of it!

Redistricting to assure majorities or even supermajorities when winning the least or barely more votes than other political parties.

When losing popular vote elections, using those supermajorities to remove power from offices won by other political parties.

Doing everything possible make it more difficult for demographics that are least likely to vote for the party in power to do so. Funny how all the "liberal voters are stupid and shouldn't be allowed to vote" memes that were popular in the mid 2000s pretty much disappeared when Republicans actually went on the attack on that front.

The last example isn't for sure being done in a malicious matter, though I question the motives. Plus the outright lie that even conservative news used to debunk about imaginary mass voter fraud.

Republicans are being conditioned to accept an eventual "necessary" authoritarian state. The demographics are changing, and the frankly supremacist wing of the party will do anything to cling to power, because they live under racist delusions that anything diverse is fake.

Our country is in very real danger unless a combination of Republicans with a backbone stand up to the authoritarian wing of the party, and Republicans that are thralls to this movement lose elections.

Conservatives need to pledge that if Trump loses and tries to cling to his office, they will not be traitors to our constitution.

And, to be clear because I'm going to ignore this topic most likely:
I do not think all the Democratic party candidates are great.

All I can hope is that this unraveling of the separation of powers stops somehow.
