I get it. I think we should worry about getting to be able to do even basic things that we can't anymore before we complain about luxuries. Like damn I can't take that cruise anymore - well, there's nothing even to do but stare at a wall right now. Let's worry about the cruise and other luxuries later. My $0.02

Which is understandable. I'm just saying living like this isn't easy. I actually work in healthcare, so I still go to work every day while most people are home. The least supermarkets can do is let us healthcare workers cut the line. It's not right to work all day and then have to wait on a long line like that. Especially when my work days are so much harder now.
Yeah that's brutal. I guess we all just have to tough it out for the greater good. Working from home every day under these conditions is fucking depressing too tbh I'd rather just go into work.

Honestly, I rather covid-19 if it means living like this for too long. I spent an hour on a long line outside of my local supermarket in the cold rain because only 5 people were allowed inside at a time. Then when I got in, there was barely anything left. I expect a huge decline in mental health especially for those not working.
It can't be allowed because the hospitalization and mortality rate is so high that it overwhelms the health care system and of course that will have a huge affect on those without coronavirus as well who need treatment. You'll have dead bodies piling in the streets and things will get even worse, much worse.

You don't have to. The more time that goes on the better data we have. I don't believe I ever said everything was going to be better in 2 weeks just that in some places you'd see the numbers dropping and some things could start opening. A lot of it depends on how serious the citizens get about it and how badly the place is hit in the first place. I wouldn't be surprised if in a week British Columbia is already recovering based on their numbers as they appear to be the model of recovery for Canada. Ontario is a bit behind but I'm sure things will get better the latter half of this month.

K. I can tell you from living where I live, people are taking the quarantine rules very seriously now. They weren't two weeks ago even though they were supposed to. So - a lot of new information has come in since then.

The quarantine rules that were said to be enforced and mandatory 2 weeks ago, really, people did not get on board until late this week.

We also repatriated a shit load of infected people the last 2 weeks.

So now we're back to where we should have been 2 weeks ago, today. So it'll be another two weeks before things start getting better. Canada hasn't been hit as hard as the States and I believe will end up being a model of recovery like South Korea.

REMercsChamp

Last week, Ontario banned evictions during the state of emergency called due to covid-19 and the subsequent economic fallout. Let's see how landlords have responded.

https://ontariolandlords.org/blog/small-landlords-need-to-get-rent-and-be-able-to-evict-non-paying-tenants/

Small Landlords Are Not Faceless Corporate Giants
Weve worked hard over the past decade to show that small landlords need to be put in different category compared to the corporate landlords.

Were not rich. We hold jobs and many of our members are teachers, fire-fighters, secretaries, mechanics, doctors, painters, plumbers, electricians, Realtors, small business owners and even helicopter pilots and retired athletes.

We rely on rent to keep our businesses going. When a tenant pays rent to us, we are paying property taxes, insurance, mortgages and for maintenance (which is not nearly as inexpensive as tenants think it is). If we dont receive rent, we still need to pay all these costs.
And many small landlords require rent each month just to cover all these costs!

We Need To Find Real Win-Win Solutions
Small landlords are aware of the serious challenges tenants face. Some of our OLA members are already providing their tenants with extra heaters, blankets andtoilet paper. Were trying to help!
One our OLA members is even going to Walmart, Metro and Shoppers Drug Mart to buy diapers and milk and groceries and medicine for a single mom tenant who is afraid to take her baby out shopping with her.
This is what good small landlords do for our tenants. We dont want conflict with tenants, we want win-win situations.

Rent Freezes, No Evictions, Closing Down The LTB, No Sheriff Enforcement Are Not Solutions

All these so-called solutions are simply demonizing the landlord and placing the entire financial burden tenants face on to the small landlord.
