I understand why Twitch hasn't said anything about it. Because he's wealthy enough he can actually levy a lawsuit towards them if they said the wrong thing. Because if this is a MeToo situation, they really can't say anything that doesn't open them up for a lawsuit until that person comes forward first.

But it still feels really weird that there's silence.

Are we talking about spoilers right now?

Because if we're talking about spoilers, they absolutely screwed up with the beginning of the game concerning Abby. They had Joel save Abby's life--if Joel didn't appear, the game makes it clear that Abby would have been dead and the story is over. That's it. Then they have Abby actively fool these nice people who saved her life. And then she shotguns him in the leg ruthlessly without a word and then has his leg put in a tourniquet so she can TORTURE him. And then they have her murder Joel directly in front of his screaming, sobbing surrogate daughter and gets mad that someone tries to get her to stop torturing this person who saved her life.

And then by the time you get to Abby's part of the game, I think they just want you to just... forget about that. This isn't like Abby got revenge. Went over and shot him in the head and left. She went above and beyond and murdered this man. Didn't even talk about it or explain why she's doing it at all. She was taking absolute glee with torturing and killing him. It wasn't like she just went up and shot him in the head. And for a lot of people, it's pretty hard for them to ignore just how ruthless and sadistic she was in killing Joel. I was in the same boat.

There was nothing in Abby's part of the game that redeemed her from that. I thought the storytelling in her part was actively at odds with how she wanted me to feel sympathetic for the character. And all of Abby's friends we're supposed to feel for were all equally awful people, since they were complicit of the torture and brutal murder of an old man who saved the life of one of theirs. So fuck them too.

There is so much they could have done better about that if they didn't want to poison the well with Abby at the start. Don't have Joel save her life. Don't have her torture him and be angry someone tells her to stop torturing him. Have her say anything of meaning to Joel instead of "duhhhh who am I? GUESS" and then nothing else. Have her at least get his opinion on killing her entire family. You don't even need to show that in the scene, you can show it in a flashback to see Joel's reaction and then see how Abby reacted to what he said. I was floored that they didn't show any other dialogue between the two characters. But this game is allergic to actually having the important scenes being fleshed out, or having anyone talk that wasn't mundane conversation.

Abby and Joel talking would have been legitimately interesting. If even for a short time. Wouldn't you be interested in what Joel had to say upon learning he robbed this girl of her father? Wouldn't you be interested in hearing Abby's response to learning he did it to save his little girl? The game just doesn't want to explore it, for some reason. And doing that alone would have shown more humanity or understanding for the character.

It's not "they killed Joel" that's the issue. It's the way it's done that is so poorly handled it's baffling.

I mean, Tessa apologizing for being a racist does not go over well at the massive BLM movement going on right now. And Tessa apologizing for bullying a ton of wrestlers does not go down well with how wrestling is trying to oust the filth now. Especially after she already doubled down and claimed this was all fake and from people who just want to tear her down for being successful. And quite literally at this point, it would be painfully obvious she would be apologizing just because she had successfully ruined every chance at her working for a major promotion now.

WWE passed on her with full knowledge of her talent years back, but she is also a far better and more experienced performer than she was at that time, and womens wrestling is also higher priority. This isnt to say AEW or ROH shouldnt go after her. AEW could use her better than WWE likely would, and could even have her father manage her. Whatever negativity from the fan base would largely go away with an apology, and after this past week, there are dozens of targets that would be in front of her on various lists.

I feel like Dave has simultaneously been paying a ton of attention to what's going on in the world while also paying no attention to it.

Moxley and Renee Young wanted the entire story out about Renee's Coronavirus situation and it showed in the new WON.

Details we didn't already know:

• Renee Young was in horrible, miserable shape. WWE did a test for Renee, it came back negative, so she took a test herself and it came back positive.
• She thinks she got it from a female wrestler on NXT she was working with that tested positive before WWE panicked and started doing actual tests.
• WWE is pissed at Renee for coming out and saying she had Coronavirus.
• WWE hasn't informed anyone in the company about the extent of the outbreak (which is apparently really, really fucking out of control).
• Vince, Dunn, Hunter, and Carrano never reached out to Renee to see how she was doing after they knew she had Coronavirus.
• Talent was very upset that WWE allowed fans to the show since they thought there was more chance of them catching Coronavirus with them there.

This is fucked.

Violence is horrific but I think that in this case we have to make a distinction between killing and murdering. The Last of Us is a world where violence and death is a constant thing and it's very much normalized. Killing people in order to survive is fairly accepted. I think they did a good job in portraying that the murdering of others for non-survival reasons is something of a different beast.

Okay, this is kind of silly though.

Ellie only has to survive, for instance, because she's actively pursuing and trying to murder people. Of course they're going to try and kill her. The game is like the opposite of survival like the first game, and that's why a lot of the story regarding violence suffers. It's not poor Ellie trying to just stay alive in this messed up world, it's Ellie mowing down a countless number of people to specifically murder certain people.

So I would say that it honestly hurts the story it's trying to tell, without getting into spoilers here.

I've heard the gameplay is vastly improved with a lot more options, but I've also heard if you didn't like the gameplay of the first game it's unlikely you won't like it in this game still.

See, the only thing stopping me is that I feel like it's unfair if I don't play through the game myself. I've detailed many of my thoughts in the spoiler topic about why it's a complete mess though. I've seen various streams and videos and I've caught, I want to say, around 95% of everything.

But even stuff as small as the Bigot Sandwich scene at the very beginning are done in such a sloppy way that you know they intend for you to view it as one way, but it's missing key things to really make that scene go as seamlessly as it should.

But if I sit down and maybe watch an entire playthrough the entire way, maybe I'll write it. I'd play it myself just to write about it, but I honestly had no fun with the gameplay in the first game so I don't think I'd be able to get through it playing it myself.

It is absolutely not a case of "not what I wanted" turning to "bad writing".

The game's writing is bad. I could write a lengthy essay on how it fails from an overarching narrative standpoint to individual scenes.

If you enjoy it, that's fine. I won't knock anyone for that. In fact, it's fine for a AAA project. But there are people out there claiming it's a well-written masterpiece when it's just not even close. And if there weren't people out there claiming it's a masterclass of video game storytelling (or if it didn't have to be compared to its predecessor) then it probably wouldn't get as much flack as it has.

This scene is still so fucking weird to me. Like we don't even know what this dude says until the last half hour of the game. And he's trying to apologize and then Ellie is having none of it, acting like a brat about it, all sullen with her head down and barely listening, and then Maria is just like "Thank you for doing that." FOR DOING WHAT? You didn't let anything be resolved! You refused to even talk it out at all! It wasn't like this guy was half-assing his apology or anything. He even gave you a gift and said he hopes you're safe in the barren zombie hellscape. He seemed like he was being legitimate.

There's just so many small disconnects like this that floor me. If you're going to have this scene, at least have him seem like he's not really all too sorry or establish he's kind of the town asshole.

I've seen plenty of people talk about the gameplay. Mostly it's dependent on if you liked the first one or not since it's extremely similar.

I didn't like the combat and stealth in the first game, unfortunately, so I don't think I'd get much out of the gameplay at least.

Not a strong defense tbh. He's always been a turn off his brain and enjoy it kind of guy, and he's claiming people are claiming they don't know why they don't like the game's story and it's like... bruh. Not to mention he's saying they humanized Abby's character and her friends with a hackneyed attempt at humanizing her through Yara and Len's story when, lord, the whole time she has nothing nice to say about them and admits at the climax of the game she doesn't even know why she's helping Len and standing up for him against her people after knowing him for all of 12 hours. And that's about all I really care to say about that right now.

I dunno, you can like the story, but you can't come at me saying it was told well.

In lighter news, apparently Vince banned the usage of any referee's name. He was backstage listening to commentary and said "Who the hell is that?" when they were mentioning the referee's name. Someone told him it was the ref and Vince went "God damnit, I'm tired of hearing the ref's name." And then he banned saying referee names.

What I find strange is that nobody can really explain what makes the storyline good. Like, nobody describes what makes it so good. They just use buzzwords to describe it. I can't wrap my head around it. As a AAA video game, sure. Maybe it's a bit more deep than your standard fare, but man. This story is embarrassingly poor and if it didn't have the name "The Last of Us" on it then nobody would be defending it.

It was clearly acceptable for him to say this in the wrestling world. The man interviewing him had no issue with him saying it. He didn't think saying it was wrong in the environment he was in, in an industry with literal sexual abusers.

It's no different than a gang. In their environment, they don't see anything wrong with the things they do. Take it out if the environment they're in, and then it's a problem.

What's there to "oh come on now" about this? We have stories of people who have done horrible acts of sexual abuse who obviously didn't think it was wrong.

I think it's fucking sad that there's an environment like this where people don't realize joking about rape is bad, but that's what it is. Take a look at everything that's come out in the last week and tell me that everyone in this industry should realize joking about this is wrong, especially four years ago.

It's not a defense, it's a statement on how shitty the wrestling community has been.

You don't understand how lawsuits work. Jimmy Havoc can 100% argue that him being fired was partly because of him going to rehab with that statement.

But if they say they're supportive, there's no argument to be made and no pending lawsuit.
