Of course the most capitalist country on earth won't say it is, they think water isn't either.
That reminds me of that executive from Nestle saying that the idea of water being a human right is radical. Of course, Nestle is the same company that steals water from countries through crooked governments (and maybe private armies, I don't remember).

Maybe the world should sanction America for the human rights violations it constantly commits. Just look at the violence that happened to the BLM and George Floyd protestors.
The world should. Who we support also plays a role. We need to resolve our internal and external affairs. It's not an either-or sort of deal. Just like how you cannot fight climate change by simply moving the pollution to another country.

Cuba and Iran aren't exactly world powers though. Generally sanctions are just used to bludgeon whichever smaller nations that don't want American influence until they give in.
Yeah, see, that's the problem. The US has been building up China as a superpower. There is that quote going around attributed to Lenin stating, "The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them." With China this is very much the case. The rich have sold out the US to China in order to make record profits. After decades of this, it's tough to step back and it'll be harder the more we continue. I won't be surprised if it comes to war. Let this be a lesson that this is what happens when you prop up authoritarian governments to make a quick buck.

And what exactly would you propose? Everything I've seen either ends up with us shooting ourselves in the foot, or China just ends up increasing trade with another western power
Funny how the US can easily sanction the fuck out of Cuba and Iran (and force other countries to do the same) but when it comes to China they're helpless. Given the many severe human rights violations China constantly commits, it's worth putting such heavy pressure on them. Apparently you're content with just continuing business as usual with China as they grow more and more influential. Oh, but corporate profits are at stake!

The problem with this Trumpist idea of yours of restricting Chinese imports is that it more often that not has unforseen negative side effects in other industries for the American consumer (e.g. farming becomes more expensive)
It's not a Trumpist idea, you shrieking neoliberal. The problem is that you can't suddenly yank out trade setups after decades of setting them up. Obviously the best approach would've been to refuse to do business with China in the first place until they had improved working conditions. Trump went about it in the dumbest way possible, but there is merit to putting in restrictions, you just have to be smart about it.

We know exactly what's going on and look the other way because prices are cheaper. Stop pretending it's anything other than that.
You think it's easier to convince hundreds of millions of Americans to not pay lower prices (even though their wages have stagnated for decades) than it is to simply put restrictions on imports using sweatshop labor? Go back to praying at your Ayn Rand shrine.

No, we're responsible for propping up these businesses by buying their products in the first place.
You're operating on the libertarian fallacy of customers having perfect information and having enough time to research every single purchase and weigh all pros and cons in excruciating detail.

You can thank big business "the customer is always right" attitudes for kowtowing to this behavior. Look forward to companies continuing to and increasingly bending over backwards to China because of the large customer base.
