| Giant_Aspirin 01/05/21 9:47:11 AM #26 | i've been working on meditation for like three years now. i find it calming and peaceful and it helps me get my emotions and thoughts under control. i practice what's called "mindfulness of breath", which is a technique centered on focused breathing. the basic idea is that you sit comfortably, preferably without back support (helps keep you awake), close your eyes and focus your mind on your breathing. think about the feeling of the air entering and exiting your lungs and mouth, the way your chest rises and falls, etc. there's actually an awful lot going on when you breathe if you stop and pay attention. during this process it's inevitable that eventually your mind will wander. this is ok, it's natural and its a part of the exercise. once you notice your mind has wandered away from your focus (the breath), gently guide it back to where it needs to be (the breath) and resume. this process of identifying a thought that has ran wild is the main point of the exercise. learn to recognize that your thoughts happen independently of your mind, as in you have no control over which thoughts materialize, only what you do with them once you notice them. /r/meditation is a good place --- Playing: Outer Wilds; Hades; Dead Cells; You see it your way, I'll see it mine and I'll be fine |
