Ogma is ok for a bit, but he does tend to fall off.

Linde is Aura spam and that's about it.

Clair is a fairly mediocre flier in a route where fliers aren't all that useful. The effective damage against monsters is good, and she has a good enough speed growth where she doesn't really care about losing speed from weapons. But her bases are fairly low and she only has one promotion to help them, so I can't rate her too high.

Finn is one of the better units in Gen 1, but unfortunately he leaves after chapter 3. He's great at the start of Gen 2, where he's basically another Oifey if you trained him in Gen 1. Unfortunately, he's one of two non-replacement Gen 2 units with no possibility of having holy blood, so his stats are going to fall off and he's not going to be able to hang with the enemies in the endgame. But his contributions before that still make him a great unit.

Finn in FE5 is one of the better units in outdoor maps, with his personal Brave Lance letting him kill most enemies and make him one of your better capturers. Unfortunately, he's fairly weak in indoor maps, where he's stuck with a weapon type that he's not proficient in. It's not the worst thing since it gives you a chance to rest him so you don't need to use an s-drink on him, but it dings him enough to knock him down to an 8.

Ronan is one of those units that you wonder what they were thinking when they came up with them. An archer with 15% strength growth and 55% magic growth in a game where there aren't any bows that use magic? It gives him high res due to how magic works in FE5, but with that strength he's not even going to ORKO mages. He has high move for a foot unit, but does that really matter when he can't really do anything with it?

Corrin is another OP avatar. Not so much as Robin, but they'll be one of your best units throughout all 3 routes.

Lucius has a unique niche over the other mages because he gets C rank staves on promotion. He's not that great, but a high magic growth and possibility of using warp nets him a decent score.

Tanith is great in FE9 because of her reinforcement skill. Unfortunately, it's the weakest of the three incarnations, with only being able to influence where they go rather than directly controlling them, but it's still great. Her terrible availability hurts her in FE10, but at least she has decent stats unlike some other people with that issue.

Reyson is a dancer, so he's a 10. Even more so for quad-dancing.

Libra's ok. Nobody in Awakening is really bad, and Libra usually turns out decent.

Shamir is solid. She joins in a class you don't have access to yet, one that happens to have a solid mastery ability. Joining with solid bases and being the first person in your army to get Hunter's Volley is pretty good. She's not the best archer in the game, but she's a pretty good one.

Gerik has solid stats and can insta-promote, joining at level 10 with a hero crest, which solves his swordlocked issue and possibly his no mount issue.

Ike can eventually become a good unit in FE9, but that start is a little rough. He's much improved in FE10, where he gets the Ragnell earlier and gets axes on promotion in a game where axes are pretty good. Free Aether and Nihil are nice, too. His speed can sometimes be an issue, but that's really the only thing that holds him back.

Olivia is a dancer. That makes her a insta-10.

Camilla is an early-joining pre-promote who gains exp like she's level 15 unpromoted. So not only are her stats insane for the point in the game she joins, she can still level at a decent rate after she joins. Oh yeah, she has some of the best growths in the game as well. Savage Blow and Trample are some nice abilities, too.

Like most units in Three Houses. Manuela is solid. Unfortunately, she's not much more than that. Her magic list is pretty meh, with the standouts being Warp and Bolting. Those two spells and solid stats are enough to keep you from being terrible, but she's easily the worst of the four warpers. Even Linhardt, whose spell list keeps him ahead despite not having access to Gremory or the DLC mage classes.

Low skill on a mage isn't too bad, because Fire tomes have a glorious 95 hit, tied for the most of any weapon in the game. They're one of the only weapons exempt from Binding Blade's low hit syndrome. Even the 80 hit Thunder tome is still pretty accurate by FE6 standards, that's Slim Lance/Iron Bow territory

Yeah, using Anima magic helps, but it doesn't help that she's in the one GBA game where enemies actually have a decent AS, so it's kind of a wash there.

It's really unfortunate that Lysithea is also in Golden Deer and can even hold the Gloucester Relic without any consequences.

It's not just Lysithea. Anyone with a crest can use it without penalty. It's just that Lorenz and Lysithea are the only ones who get Aegis and Pavise from it.

Lex has some nice things about him. Having Paragon is really nice, and is a great thing to pass down if you don't care about your kid inheriting any weapons. He has exclusive use over the Brave Axe in gen 1 until Lachesis and Arden promote, and Lachesis has better options and Arden is a joke character, so you might as well keep it on Lex. He's one of your best units in chapter 2 and 3, and even though he falls off a bit after than when enemies can take 2 hits from his axe, he's still one of your better options.

Lilina is bad. She joins at level 1 on what is essentially 8x, because she spends most of chapter 8 locked up. Her skill is terrible in a game that has low hit rates to begin with, and her speed is bad too. When she catches up, she can hit stuff really hard once, assuming she hits. She avoids the 1 because at the very least she's a tier above scrubs like Wendy and Sophia.

Nephenee in PoR is in an awkward spot where she has similar bases to Marcia, who joins a couple chapters earlier and can fly. Her bases are a little low for that part of the game too, where Kieran (the slow cav) has a higher speed base than she does. She's a bit better in RD, where she has actual bases and growths that allow her to take advantage of the new bonus exp system. She's still not that great. Also, I'd like to point out how dumb it is that she starts with a lance that doesn't let her double the enemies in her join chapter. She might've ended up better if she had a chance to snowball in 2-1.

Lon'qu is decent. He's got decent combat and his high skill and speed bases make him a decent pair-up option. I don't have much more to say than that.

Lorenz is kind of in an odd spot. He can go either cav or mage, and he's decent at it, but nothing special. Thyrsus is nice, but it's not exclusive to him. He's just in an awkward spot where he's a worse cav than Ferdinand or Sylvain, and male mages get screwed over in TH, especially after the DLC.

I don't know why you think Franz is weak but Forde isn't, when they have similar bases, yet Franz joins 7 chapters earlier and 5 levels lower.

The FE11, FE6, and FE7 cavs are similar, so I'll lump them all together. Abel and Lance's higher speed lets them hit doubling thresholds easier, which is more important than the higher strength their counterparts have in games where enemies have actual speed stats. It doesn't matter for Sain as much because most FE7 enemies are so slow. Kent and Sain get a huge boost from Lyn mode, and you can even promote one of them to have a second Marcus when you hit Chapter 14/15.

Franz and Forde are a little different, however. Franz has solid bases, good growths, and is a great candidate for the first knight crest you get, which can turn him into a second Seth. His biggest problem is that Seth is around to suck up experience, so it may be a little hard to get him going. Still, the payoff is worth it.
