Would you give Banner the best moment in phase 2 then? I thought him jumping out of the plane in Ragnarok, and faceplanting on the ground is what I'll always remember from the movie. You're expecting a super-hero landing as the Hulk, only to watch Bruce ragdoll on impact.

That's a tougher contest, because I was very lukewarm on Phase 1 outside of the original Iron Man, and didn't actually get invested in the MCU until Winter Soldier and GotG. Plus Ragnarok is Phase 3, which is an even tougher contest for 'best moment' imo. Hell, Ragnarok itself has plenty of self-contained competition for best moment.

Personally I love Hulk's development in the MCU. For once we get a version of the Hulk where Bruce is able to make peace with it and it actually sticks rather than reverting to status quo. Love it.

I agree. It's a shame that we didn't get to see firsthand the resolution of his arc, but honestly that much more screentime with Smart Hulk was worth it imo. This is purely anecdotal, but my parents - who generally aren't invested in these movies outside of GotG, and I mainly talked them into watching IW and Endgame so they could keep up on the Guardians' arcs - actually commented aloud how great / clever it was to have Smart Hulk be the one to undo the Snap.

There's only a small handful of final 'dungeons' in fantasy adventure / RPGs that I actually, genuinely enjoyed; in fact the only three that immediately come to mind are Hoover Dam from Fallout: New Vegas, Hyrule Castle from Breath of the Wild, and Kefka's Tower. Split-party mechanics, callbacks to earlier areas / monsters of the game due to it being the amalgamated ruins of Vector, good soundtrack. Getting to whoop on the formerly-impregnable Guardian was a nice treat, as well as finally getting to face off against the Warring Triad (not to mention also being able to put a ribbon on the 8 Dragons quest). Really felt like a culmination of the adventure up to that point, and not just a 'let's get this out of the way so we can see the ending cinematic.'

'There's a fine line between clever and stupid,' as a wise artist once said. Seems like the mod team here was quite skilled technically but didn't have the writing chops, which is understandable; well-written quest mods seem to be the exception rather than the rule. Skyrim's Falskaar mod immediately comes to mind; the mod author building, writing, and directing such a large-scale quest and worldspace mod with little to no outside help at the tender age of 19 is certainly a greater accomplishment than anything I've ever done in my own miserable life, and no one can take that away from him; but that doesn't change the fact that the story and writing are just plain mediocre. The difference here is that, while Falskaar's writing is mediocre, it's also inoffensive. When you try to try to tackle touchy subjects like sex, slavery and abuse like the Frontier mod authors clearly did without the necessary writing skills to back it up, people are going to zero in on it.

'Puny God' was not only far and away the best moment in the first Avengers movie, it was arguably the top moment in all of Phase 1 (though it's been a decade since I've seen the first Iron Man, so I'm sure there's still a few moments there that I'm forgetting that could compete). 'I'm always angry' was also a top-tier moment.

I guess I need to rewatch Toy Story and find out what makes it so darn special. I watched it plenty as a kid, but don't have strong nostalgia for it like I do classic Disney from that era; and it's unfathomable to adult-me that it should surpass the near-flawlessness of Incredibles, the artistry of Ratatouille, or the soul-stirring feels of Up, Inside Out, Coco, or even Toy Story 3.

It should also be noted that there's an inherent flaw in multiple nominations in which all noms are given equal weight: if my absolute favorite is Moogle Gunner but I pick Black Mage as a runner-up, and the next person's favorite class is Monk and they too pick Black Mage as a runner-up, the runner-up now has more votes than the individual favorites.

Since the topic title asks for 'best' and not 'favorite' job class, I gotta give my nod to FFTA's Assassin. Apart from the most obvious benefit of having OHKO moves that actually work more often than not, their stat growth is monstrous to the point where they have no noteworthy weaknesses / deficiencies, and while they absolutely murder with katanas, they're no slouch with bows either (the latter being significant because bows are too often underpowered in this franchise). And unlike it's rival broken class (FFT's Arithmetician), the Assassin doesn't need to hand its skillset off to a stronger job class to be effective, as it has both the raw power and great abilities to stand head and shoulders above the rest on its own.

And since I gotta add 2 more...

Gonna cast my noms for three character themes that have been among my top faves for decades, but are way long-shots:

FF VI - Gau's Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9kGEgmNbTk

FF V - Bartz's Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhYDLp35FwY

FF X - Lulu's Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kshxwh_CLYk

I have no illusions that it would actually win, but it would be pretty cool if Gau's Theme managed to squeeze into the poll. It only plays twice in the entire game, and in the pre-mp3 days I would just let the game run for 15-30 minutes listening to the song before moving on to the next scene.

Remind me of what this was @masterpug53

teepan beat me too it, but it's the one where every year the Overseer was forced to sacrifice themselves to keep the Vault from killing them all, except it was all a 'test' on-par with Vault-Tec's usual social experiments and was programmed to release the vault dwellers as soon as they refused to sacrifice someone.

It wasn't so much the plot itself, but how the curtain was pulled back on it. You go through the Vault seeing all the election posters and propaganda, reading select journal entries and realizing that something's very topsy-turvy about the whole thing (as becomes clear that no one actually wants to be Overseer and they're trying to elect the worst person possible for the job). Then you finally read the log about the true nature of the Vault's experiment, and how the first Overseer cried like a baby as he walked to his death. The cherry on top is that, in order to solve the mystery, you yourself have to make the journey to the sacrificial chamber, the whole time knowing something is going to try and kill you but not knowing what exactly it is or when exactly it will strike. It's pretty rare for a game to leave me feeling as tense as I felt going through Vault 11's ending.

Theres good voice acting, just bad direction here and there. Auron, Donna, Maechen are great. James Arnold does a good job as Tidus same as Dimaggio as Wakka. Probably the biggest miss was Yuna. But considering the time it came out its more than decent overall.

Don't ask me why I remember this (since it's been over 15 years since I played the game), but right after Kimahri picks a fight with Tidus, Yuna has an almost boisterous laugh and says 'sometimes we don't understand Kimahri either!' but then immediately reverts to the usual shy, stilted Yuna speech. I liked Yuna as a character overall, but it always stuck with me that I'd like her so much better if the VA had delivered all her lines the way she delivered that one particular line.

Anyway, I agree that the handful of infamous missteps in X's voice acting overshadow the fact that it was mostly competent overall with occasional flashes of greatness, which was a pretty big accomplishment in an era not too far removed from the likes of Symphony of the Night and the original Resident Evil.

Dancing Mad, of course. One Winged Angel, while undeniably iconic, ultimately just belongs to Sephiroth. Dancing Mad is much more of a culmination of the grand saga that led up to this final conflict, opening with a callback to the overture that both opens the game and plays during its most significant moment when the world is doomed to destruction (there's also the repeat of the grim organ title crawl that heralds Kefka himself when he finally descends on the battle). I absolutely love it when final battles either replay or make obvious callbacks to a particular beginning-game track, like Super Castlevania 4 switching to the triumphant Simon's Theme during the final phase of the Dracula battle; it really helps bring the adventure full-circle. And of course there's the multi-layered phases of the track that perfectly match the feel of the boss phase you're fighting; I'm too nostalgic for this game to comment on whether or not it 'holds up,' but like the Opera House before it, it was just mind-blowing as a kid that the music seemed to so effortlessly transition to fit the mood throughout the fight.
