does anyone like zeus on weapons that aren't the gun or bow?

i have tried to make zeus boons on attack/special work several times and it always is lack luster. is great on the gun tho for sure

so, the door reroll definitely took some learning. there's "pools" it seems of different kinds of rewards. IE a door with a key/darkness/gem will, i believe, always be one of those 3. coin/heart/pom seems to be another group, but i *have* rerolled and gotten a boon on this before. it seems rare. i've never gotten a boon on the first group though. and then boons obviously can reroll to other gods. have never attempted to reroll a hammer yet but i would imagine it's in the boon group

that said i do think i prefer the boon/shop reroll. it allows me to really hone in on specific builds (for instance, i had to reroll twice to get snow burst there. fortunately it was the last important thing i wanted). rerolling doors seems useful, but it always feels underwhelming and i often had to look for reasons to use all my charges. whereas the boon/shop reroll is never unused, something always comes up that is very worth the reroll.

hermes shouldn't dilute your pool in any way, because yeah, he's always available. he's also almost always worth it so i actually enjoy the mechanic of him "beating" your keepsake god to you because every build can use some hermes boons.

It's worth it to set up a build and get a god in your pool for sure. Try only using the god keepsakes for the first one or two areas and then switching. It works very well.

Though with the four god thing I realize I have been screwing myself over a few times by getting rid of other gods. I guess Family Favorite isn't as good as I thought.

i liked family favorite a lot at first too, but keeping 2 status curse afflictions up is so easy on anything that actually needs the extra damage. i've come to really love aphro/dio dash boons for this.

i did a run using all the mirror skills i had never used, to fill the prophecy in the fastest, most painful way possible. ended up being surprisingly easy with athena/demeter. max gauge athena's aid facetanks hades too hard. first time not dying at all to hades actually! actually my first no death at all run, i think.

If nobodys ever tried it, Aspect of Hera has a weird interaction with Aphrodite cast where it just doesnt hit whoever you shot the arrow at, so avoid that combo until it (presumably) gets fixed

from what i can tell, this is a hitbox issue. the cast does damage in a cone behind the point the arrow hits, so if the enemy you hit isn't particularly big, it will miss. so it will hit against most the bosses, and it will also work if the enemy is like, against a wall or similar, but yeah, you get screwed on most normal enemies. it's still pretty good for mobbing despite this, though. it's most noticeable trying to take out like, solitary witches or similiar sized enemies by themselves.

first time clearing with the hera bow. trippy flare continues to be a champ. hit hades for 3.5k multiple times, and i absolutely *stomped* the heroes. they both died basically at the same time in i think less than a minute

i also would love a sort of tetris 99/mario 35-esque multiplayer version of something like this. where all the players are in their own single player run but how well you do/what choices you make affects the other players runs. i imagine this doesn't exist, but it should!

speaking of festive fog, that's definitely one of my favorite casts in the game. i wouldn't use it on a lot of builds but it has so many great combo effects and the base damage value is huge.

festive fog + naeglings board is so so so good

when i first was playing the game i felt like i would never ever want to use a cast that didn't get stuck in enemies because of the damage boost but festive fog is wonderful.

oh sorry, that's for everything after the initial spear. to unlock the first one, you need to unlock 5 aspects total across all the weapons, not necessarily the lance. after that, to unlock the other 5 hidden aspects, it's 5 titan's blood on each specific weapon.

Upgrade the spear aspects 5 times total and then keep doing runs until Achiles tells you about upgrading it. After unlocking the hidden spear aspect the other ones take 5 upgrades and then other people will tell you about them eventually.

this isn't quite correct.

you need to spend 5 total titan's blood on the weapon, be that unlocking or leveling.

this would have been my first time not dying at all to hades, but in phase 2 he managed to do his laser spin in a position that cut through one of the rocks, the one i was standing behind lmao. he was basically right on top of the rock, on the opposite side from where i was, and it went right through. first time for everything i guess!

but again i want to make it clear that i realize i'm making a lot of assumptions based on conjecture. there's nothing in the trailer to suggest any significant amount of persona-fication. it's just the lack of anything of real substance coupled with the decisions they've been making over the past 5+ years.

yeah no i definitely agree that it seems they're still figuring out how to make modern console games and that slows them down, which isn't a bad thing on its own.

that's why like, if they came out and were like "we've been spending the last 5 years making future-proofed assets for our games and so it might not look like much now but the rest of our games will be much easier to produce" it'd make sense? there is a ton of demon crossover so theoretically they could use these models in tons of games in the future. but it doesn't necessarily look like that was the case.

edit: also in the hypothetical where they gave us an upscaled 3ds quality game, the assumption tehre was that, yes, it didn't take this long to come out. and then we wouldn't be going from an HD nocturne to a 3ds quality game. i was also asserting that said game would have been more in line with the mainline game design as it had been established and not, theoretically, filled with co-opted persona stuff that i am (with only conjecture, admittedly) assuming to be in the game we are actually getting

or to rephrase it maybe: i'd be happier with a crappy looking game true to what i felt made SMT unique and distinct from other games of its ilk and other atlus properties than an acceptable looking game that continues implementing design choices that i think make the series less unique and compelling. i think a good portion of the fanbase would be too.

but this is the same shit that happens with any franchise that becomes popular so...i don't expect anything different. it just is what it is. this is what happens to stuff.

again though, i don't really blame atlus, persona is their golden goose. i get why they're doing it.

it's just sad because the elements of persona that they seemingly decided to hone in on and bring over to their other franchises are some of the worst elements of persona.

i mean the thing is though, SMT doesn't like...need high techinical fidelity? i honestly don't think anyone would be particularily upset if we got an upscaled 3ds-like SMT5 that was true to the series roots and at least as good as SMT4 (which itself had a lot of problems but was still pretty rad)

SMTxFE is uhh...not something i would ever reference in a good light in this discussion. the main SMT time spending so much time on that game is precisely the kind of choice i have major problems with.

not that i'm saying that game was bad. i have no idea. but it's decidedly not SMT.

but yeah. the most recent SMT releases are co-opting persona design in ways i do not like. SMT4: apocalypse is dripping in persona-esque characters and writing (which clashes entirely with the vibe of SMT), and the remake of strange journey's biggest new feature is a poorly written persona-esque character (lolol redundant)...i'm worried. probably more than i have any right to be, i'll admit.

yeah that's fair. i'm just pessimistic and defensive about SMT. i don't like the modern persona formula and atlus is (for good reason, it makes them more money) leaning into that more and more and straying further away from what i think was most compelling about their game design.

and having followed and analyzed to death the non-teasers that had been released over the past 5 years, it's frustrating seeing how little new exists in what they finally gave us to accompany the release date reveal.

especially given the very first teaser we got was just some models floating around one of the environments we saw again in the recent trailer :eyes:

tho the majority of those models were covered in shadow at the time. so i guess like...they finished those? that's cool? i said this in discord but if the tradeoff for having spent this much time on the game to seemingly less-than-spectacular results was they just like...made future-proofed, really nice 3d models for every smt demon ever or something. make the next decade of SMT and related games easier to make. but the models don't necessarily look all that great? they look good for sure and probably can look better on non-switch hardware, but i'd be surprised if this is what happened.

How far before launch did they show gameplay for previous SMT games? I feel like it was a pretty short time with those.

i have no idea but this isn't exactly a standard SMT release. it's the highest profile release the franchise has had, and one that was used as a switch launch announcement vehicle.

like that trailer doesn't even show us any new environments. it's the same environments we had already seen in the very, very, brief "teasers" we had gotten (that were, similarily, empty environments and occasionally models)

it just strikes me as a very odd decision to only show what they showed. one that feels to me like it was an afterthought. feels very much like they don't care to put the same kind of effort into SMT that they do into other things anymore.

shine claimed at one point that there were rumors that atlus just plain forgot about this game (probably unsubstantiated rumors based on just how much time passed) but honestly? i believe it. it feels like a rushed book report. that's the vibe this trailer gives me.
