According to this chart of cases per 100,000, the Dakotas are at the number 1 and 2 spots and I think I know why, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally that they held may have been a super spreader event, Iowa is at third which I don't know why it is, they did not hold any big events that I can think of. Wisconsin is ahead of Nebraska on this chart but on the worldometers total cases per million chart, Nebraska had actually overtaken it, not sure which chart is more accurate.
That event was months ago.

Stimulus Update.

So, the White House offered 1.93 Trillion to Pelosi before the election. The House remained adamant on 2.2 Trillion or major concessions down the line. Whether the Senate would have passed this or not (probably would have if forced to them), the buck would have been on them regardless at this point.

So, anyways, where are we now?

Bipartisan Senate Offer. 900 Billion

https://twitter.com/JStein_WaPo/status/1333759472683126787

Mitch McConnell's counter offer. 333 billion.

https://twitter.com/byHeatherLong/status/1333877379362672642

Where does Pelosi stand?

https://twitter.com/ryanstruyk/status/1334217145547448320

908 Billion.

Pelosi literally negotiated herself down to 900 billion from 3.4 trillion dollars, while an offer for 1.93 Trillion existed.

Master Negotiator for sure...

Also, Trump reportedly won't sign off on the bipartisan senate deal because Romney and Collins and such proposed it.

It varies from area to area but here the lunch program is great. Tuesday and Thursday is contactless pick up and you get a ton of food per kid. We get half gallon jugs of milk, multiple cups of cereal, hamburgers, taco kits, snacks, etc. Way more than we need.

We werent doing it at first but they send out a message asking more parents to do it because they had a lot of food going to waste. Its been great here, but Im sure there are other school districts where it sucks.
Our sucks. It's basically an uncrustable and a small child's milk. It's not worth the trip to the school tbqh. And I live 2 minutes from it.

The school we're at is a Flex one, they've always done part virtual and part in person. I can't speak to everywhere obviously, but this place does really well with virtual options, but they're also used to doing it. I'd imagine it would be a lot harder for teachers who are used to in person instruction though. I think the choice of virtual vs. in person should be up to the parents though, not to the government.

I don't know how any of that works around here, so I could very well be wrong, and maybe it's not as bad as I'm thinking it is.

I don't know what other districts do, but ours has a meal order form that gets mailed (postal or email), and they offer free breakfast and lunch to all children 18 and under in the community. So maybe that's a bigger issue in some places, but it's not part of the problem in my particular district.

As far as the centrist thing, prior to Trump's gross mishandling of covid I said that I would likely vote Trump over Bernie, and that caused a bunch of people to jump all over my ass. I do fall in the political center, but I'm having a very hard time going along with anything Republicans do, considering I disagree strongly with how Trump has handled pretty much everything in the last year. The parties silence on things speaks volumes to me, and instead of moving more to the right as I get older, I'm getting pushed back to the left like I was in college. Even if my political beliefs are in the center, I can't support what the Republican party has become under Trump and I will continue voting straight Democrat until I feel differently.
Schools get something in my area (the number differs per school in each area but it's still a number of some sort) like 19k per student who attends in funding.

Schools lose that funding if a student instead enrolls in say PA Cyber instead of doing virtual in district. Schools hate that. PA Cyber sends you an entire new computer and pays for your online the entire time enrolled out of this funding they now receive instead if you choose there.

Schools that are not functioning in class have reduced costs which schools should not probably just bank to offset past budgets but should release in part back to the community.

Every school provides lunches and breakfast programs to kids but they are unwieldy and in some cases coronavirus risks themselves. We have cycled between pick up lines in schools and then bus stop deliveries. Etc. None really work that great.

Providing money back to the students to get their own food and lunches is good. Or if needed for online. Or if it helps even just a little a parent who cannot work now because their child needs watched or someone has to watch them.

The school's service in which it is provided money by the state is not being met, so why should they keep all the money if not in school meeting it? Why can't they help the student? If you think your school doesn't have this amount, you are wrong. It's a small chunk of what is provided to them.

This part also tells me that they want to force students back to in person learning, not matter what. Schools don't have that kind of money. The reason we're doing virtual learning is because if my wife gets COVID, she's probably dead. Wisconsin Republicans are fighting to kill more people.

* Require school boards to pay parents $371 to each student's parent if they provide virtual instruction.
Wrong. Schools are provided money for each student that attends. It is why a lot of schools were/are upset people were going to virtual schools instead of staying in district because they lose that funding. With students not in schools, the costs are lower. They can easily afford to provide a small chunk of the money given to the district for each student back to the parent. This money would go to providing the children with lunch's and internet costs if needed.

The school for my brother and sister already does this on their own. They get sent a check to cover lunch's which is actually higher than the amount here. It's like 2.6180. (actually not that far off).

Still love how you acted like you were a republican or centrist and you sit here and try to make Republicans into evil entities over and over. Heaven forbid Republicans want to ensure children eat and have internet access out of a small amount of what schools provide districts per child.

Okay? And what makes you think someone with a networth of billions can't pay his loans?

The news has told you repeatedly how he had a credit on his tax returns. It is a loophole. Not illegal.

This sounds like wishful thinking. Trump is still rich as fuck. He will still abuse bankruptcies on properties where it makes sense, tax codes, and etc to remain rich. He isn't in dire financial situation. The USA loopholes are in need of disrepair nothing more. The dude literally forgoed over a million dollars as president in income. And will get the wild presidential perks for life now out of office.

About centrists in this topic: I tend to think of "centrist" as meaning "both sides are equally wrong and the right answer is always a compromise between the parties". The (not right-wing) people here who call themselves "centrist" are actually moderates (that is, they reject radical views on both sides but don't insist that both sides are equal). Historically there's no difference between moderates and centrists, but now that one party has gone insane the "center" has shifted enough that moderates aren't really in the center anymore.
This is because this is how you justify yourself. Liberals are just as much polarized and radical as the conservatives.

The center is still the center. The problem is that too many people submit to the idea that it's a war and you have to be on an extreme to support your side utterly or lose. The center is still there. And just where it always has been. It is just dwindling in size as more and more move to the ends of the spectrums on either side.

It's way more than just 40 minutes. Mills are huge. Walking to job, showering, walking back.

I agree job 2 is a quality of life improvement. It's why I think job 2 is what I am going with. I would definitely probably eventually earn more money at job 1 though. If not right away. Mills destroy new hires with forced doubles. 3-5 times a week is not unheard of. Every week.

I agree 100% with Biscuit. It's a dick move, sure, but it's your life and your work.

$200 a month for family medical really isn't that bad, it sounds to me like it's an HDHP compared to a PPO from Option 1. That means you have more flexibility with those funds and you can rollover more of the dollars from year to year (only if it's an HDHP, definitely confirm that). Plus a TMOOP of $6k isn't that awful, the ACA marketplace maximum for 2020 is $16k and the US family average is $8.4k.
You can supplement it with a HSA. I don't know the exact plan.

Having said that, job 2 sounds way better and I would rather have an employee backout before starting then leaving 8 weeks in so I probably would still try to gracefully exit
I agreed to the 1st job and it is supposed to start monday. I did all of their screening and accepted after.

I got offered a job. I took the physical, background check, and hair follicle test there. I am supposed to start Monday.

However, a job I applied to first and was waiting for a response from called an hour ago and offered me a job now.

  1. Is it a dick move to back out of the first job after all that was done before my start date and take the other job?
  2. Which job would you take?

Job 1.
Starts at 18.22 for probationary period which is 6 months then jumps to 22.50. This job has a Pension of 3.35 an hour contributed. No 401k match. It also has great medical with $0 contribution. It however has a $200-$400 (single/family) deductible and 80/20 after for a max out of pocket of $1000-$2000. It has incentive pay which could be $100-$200 a week. It also has shower time pay which is a flat $9 a shift. However, it is a job where you work in a very dirty environment. It also entails working in a Blast Furnace with molten slag and iron which is 2200 degrees. High heat. This job is 45 minutes away. Has forced doubles (If forced on a double from 7am-11pm you are looking at leaving at 5:30 am to get there on time (possibly a bit earlier if conditions merit it) and getting home around 12:20am (possibly later again on conditions) due to showering, walking out, and etc). No vacation the first year. 1 week after 1 year. 2 weeks after 2 years. Next bid up job is 23.50 then 25.50. Has Sunday pay at 1.5x rate.

Job 2.
Starts at $20 hour for probationary period and jumps to $28 an hour after about 2-3 months. This job does not have a pension but does match up to 7% 401k. It has bad medical. I have been told its somewhere around $200 a month for family medical. Deductible of $2000-$4000 then 80/20 for a max out of pocket of like $6000. No incentive pay. No shower time (don't require you to shower there). It is a cleaner environment. It does not entail extreme heat. This job is 25 minutes away on a straight shot on a main road. Has forced 12s but anything over 12 is voluntary, eliminating the sleeping issue. 3 weeks vacation from the start. Next bid up job from the start is 33.50. (They also have a gym on site). Would start Christmas week. This job has a bonus that is based on a proportion of your pay for the year, once per year (no idea on amount). I don't think it has Sunday pay. Has a 6th day every 4 weeks for guaranteed overtime.

Which would you take and is it a dick move to back out on job 1 to take job 2?

For reference, I was making $34 at my last job.

I mean, in retrospect it doesn't seem crazy to say that Trump drives some turnout that is missed by the polls (the lack of social/institutional trust and zero social connection work that Rock referenced may provide an explanation) that mentally adding a few points to Trump's margin on the polls no longer seems entirely outlandish.

I think one of Trafalgar or Ras started doing that under the pretense of "shy Trump voters" and while I and a few others rolled our eyes at that - in terms of getting the result that may have been my mistake. I would still however maintain that doing that to your own polls means you're no longer polling though and it's disingenuous to present your findings as that. Because at that point you're no longer polling. It may be that whatever prior you're inserting turns out to be accurate but call it what it is and don't try to sell it as what it's not.
I don't know if I agree. Here is why. The polls were stating they couldn't get people to return data in large swathes of areas that are very likely republican areas. The PA map was like half the state across the middle of it and areas all around. Now, since they can't get data, they work around those areas to get their polls. While these nonsense polls as you call them just considers them a likely republican shy voter.

So one assumes data and one works without data. Which is correct there? Idk. I know the assume data one seems to end up fairing better in battleground states a lot though.

I mean, one A+ poll had Wisconsin +17 Biden. 0.o

I also went and made up a map of the "Board 8 cookie." Here it is: https://www.270towin.com/maps/AVXvm

The cookie was close. It was Biden 291-247 with misses in only GA and ME-2. Both of which were in the Top 4 most divided picks (NC - the most split state for the board; called correctly by a margin of a single user, and NE-2 which was tied with ME-2.)

Final result: Biden wins 306-232

Board 8 Overall metrics:
Average EV result: 315-223
Median EV result: 308-230

Congrats to Inviso for coming the closest being off of the final result by only 1 electoral vote. With honorable mentions to Luster and sniperdog for being off by only 2, as well as actual guru winner azuarc who rounds out the "off by only single-digits club" with a miss of 7 EVs.

~~~
By correctly called states/districts. I go by state first, districts called correctly make up something of a tiebreaker within. I considered counting them equally as states but I don't know if that felt right. Hopefully I caught the errors I made here but I am not 100% confident, by the end of this I kind of felt my eyes glazing over as I checked it against everyone's calls.
Congrats to Corrik, gravy, and ZeldaTPLink for being the 3 users to get 49/50 states correct and in particular Corrik for being the only one of the trio to get the correct congressional district split (and thus the only one to outright beat the cookie.) Only 6 of us got the correct congressional district split overall: Corrik, Dancedreamer, fuming, Ashethan, azuarc, and changmas.
On average Board 8 called 47.35 states correctly. (And exactly 1 of the congressional districts. The 6 who called the split correctly being offset by the 6 who missed both.)
The weird thing is that the girl did a kick off to the like 35 yard line. They said it was intentional and perfectly executed... I mean, I'd like to see a good kickoff before I take their word on that.
It's almost like you didn't even try...
(From the first result when Googling "Mueller Report Russia Collusion)
https://time.com/5610317/mueller-report-myths-breakdown/
Myth: Mueller found no collusion.
Response: Mueller spent almost 200 pages describing numerous links between the Russian government and the Trump Campaign. He found that a Russian entity carried out a social media campaign that favored presidential candidate Donald J. Trump and disparaged presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. He also found that a Russian intelligence service conducted computer-intrusion operations against the Clinton campaign and then released stolen documents.
While Mueller was unable to establish a conspiracy between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians involved in this activity, he made it clear that [a] statement that the investigation did not establish particular facts does not mean there was no evidence of those facts. In fact, Mueller also wrote that the investigation established that the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome, and that the Campaign expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts.
This doesn't say what you think it does, and it also does not say what the other person said in that "the Republican Senate Intelligence Report" stated there was collusion.
