So far Princess Mononoke is my favorite. I watched Nausica when I was really young and rented it from Blockbuster, so I'll probably rewatch that at some point as well.

In a lot of ways, Nausicaa just kind of feels like an early version of Mononoke. It's good for a lot of the same reasons and shares a lot of themes, but lacks the polish that Miyazaki developed over the couple decades between them.

Uhh, doctors in Canada definitely do fill out worker's comp forms. Maybe not ER doctors, since they usually have non-paperwork emergencies to deal with, but some manner of primary care physician will handle it (whether your regular family doctor or a walk-in clinic if you don't have one). If you're having trouble figuring it out, contact your worker's comp agency and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

I'd guess it's mostly a modesty/appearance thing. Male public toplessness is a whole lot more socially acceptable than female, but there are still plenty of people who find it trashy or feel uncomfortable about it, so the businesses in question rule it out preemptively.

but really, Mobile Games killed the HH market.

People were saying this when the 3DS launched, and it still managed to have a successful lifetime once it got past its rocky launch window (which was mostly due to a weak launch lineup and poor marketing that failed to differentiate it from the DS). Nintendo moved away from having a dedicated handheld not because there's no market for one, but because they felt they'd be better off not splitting their resources between two systems per generation and the Switch can still fill that niche to a certain extent.

They could, but that really would have to be just 4-5 croissant crusts per evening to avoid wasting any (butter is expensive, as is the labour involved, so you really do not want to throw any out). It might be a nice gimmick to do occasionally, but to do them in-house on a regular basis would be a lot of infrastructure investment for very little return. About the only way I could really see it working is to partner with a bakery that's already making their own croissants and have them make some every day for you, though even then they're likely aiming to have their croissant dough ready to bake in the morning and the logistics might be a bit fiddly (not that an extra 12 hours of fermentation in the fridge is going to be the end of the world).

I bet you can't even make a fresh croissant pizza dough.

Honestly, croissant dough isn't all that hard to make. Just really, really time-consuming. The one time I did it at home, the recipe called for two overnight fermentation periods (make dough--> ferment--> laminate--> ferment--> shape, proof, bake), meaning the whole thing took three days. My old workplace did two overnight ferments as well, but they did a couple folds each evening before baking them off the morning of day 3. Most of that time is just letting it rest in the fridge, rather than being actively involved, but there is still a substantial amount of active labour involved in doing the folds, such that incorporating it into a commercial setting can be tricky. Especially so where not having a sheeter (not one suitable for large-scale laminated dough production, anyway) will make it hard to produce large batches of the dough and that probably means folding one crust at a time.

That's also without considering that it is completely impossible to make such crusts to order. You'd basically have to make the crusts ahead of time and freeze them, which is probably okay (using it for a pizza crust means it won't need much of a final proof anyway, so killing the yeast in the freezer won't hurt it too much), but you do compromise the quality a bit and customers might not appreciate how necessary that is.

SunWuKung420 posted...
freshly made, never frozen, preservative-free awesome dough?

Technically, if you're putting beer into it, hops are a preservative, so you can't truly claim it's preservative-free. That preservative activity does basically nothing for the dough, and nobody considers natural preservatives when they talk about whether or not their food contains preservatives (except possibly salt, depending on the quantities), but it technically is not completely preservative-free.

I dont agree with the limited time, it only benefits scalpers.

That is indeed a pretty questionable move. I get not producing all that many physical, since it's being released to celebrate a single event and probably isn't going to have enough long-term popularity to warrant continuing production, but removing it from the digital store is just weird. Presumably, it's so they can release it again for the 40th anniversary and capitalize on hype from people who missed it the first time around.

That said, if I end up deciding that it's not actually worth owning, I've got a physical copy preordered, so I'll have the option of reselling it and probably making a profit due to the limited supply. That's kind of nice to know.

Most games aren't worth $6 an hour

Eh, I'd disagree. I'm okay with saying that $6 an hour is an okay rate for any form of entertainment that I'm enjoying. If I'm not enjoying it, obviously it stops being worth that much, but if I'm not enjoying it, it's not going to be worth anything at all and I'd feel like my money was wasted regardless of how much it cost. For the most part, I'm not interested in anything more than that binary assessment. There are certainly games that are more fun than others, and if they don't beat $6/hour I'm more willing to give them a pass because of that, but I'm basing that value assessment on a baseline of "I'm enjoying this" (which I can say about most games I've played because I have a reasonable sense of my own tastes).

Zeus posted...
many games won't give you 10 hours.

Generally not when you're looking at $60 stuff. Indie titles? Absolutely. There are tons of 2-3 hour indie games out there with lower price tags. But when you're looking at $60 stuff, you are usually going to see at least 10 hours. Many rely on multiplayer or other such replay value to get there, so if you aren't interested in that, maybe they won't be worthwhile, but that's a consequence of your personal preference and not an issue with the game not offering enough playtime.

Zeus posted...
More importantly, keep in mind that NF is $9/month and can give you more hours of entertainment than you have time.

And I just made the completely voluntary choice yesterday to spend $5 on PSO2 after playing it for 350-400 hours at no cost whatsoever. You're always going to be able to find exceptional deals that offer even more entertainment for even less money. That doesn't mean $6/hour is unreasonable, just that it's not the best. That's about the same rate you get for seeing a movie in theatres (minus concessions), while being a whole lot better than any form of live entertainment, and better still than purchasing movies (which can be rewatched to increase their value. but that applies to any permanent purchase, including games).

Bear in mind that I'm considering that a reasonable maximum, not an average. As an average, that'd be pathetic. That's just the approximate line I use to decide whether or not I'm disappointed in a game's value. As mentioned above, I'll be less disappointed if a game that fails to meet that threshold is exceptionally enjoyable (Untitled Goose Game is a good example of this, where it's hard to justify $20 due to it being so short, but it was such an absolute joy to play that I didn't mind), but that's the basic way I approach the matter.

Zeus posted...
9 times out of 10, I can't justify spending more than $20 or $30 on a game since everything except Nintendo titles tend to drop drastically in price within months of release.

Honestly, same. My general attitude is that the games are generally worth $60, but that just means they're even more worth $20-30, and I'm fine with getting that extra value in exchange for a bit of patience (especially given my backlog). I'll spend the full $60 if it's something I'm really anticipating or I doubt it'll drop much any time soon (as you mentioned, Nintendo titles), and I'd usually say it's still worth that much even if I do wait for a discount, but usually I'll wait for a sale.

Zeus posted...
Because CoD and Madden are apparently the same thing now.

Annual installments that change relatively little about the core game, extremely popular, much of the fanbase isn't overly interested in the majority of games... They're not quite the same thing (if nothing else, CoD's not nearly as bad for changing nothing between installments), but there are definitely enough parallels for CoD to be worth bringing up in a discussion about Madden, particularly as a social phenomenon.

but its not worth the AAA price once a year.

Honestly, it's pretty rare to find a game that genuinely can't be said to be worth even $60. You're paying $6 per hour of entertainment if you get a mere 10 hours out of it, which is incredibly easy to do with the vast majority of games at that price point. That's really not a bad rate. Certainly, you don't have to look hard to find better rates among other games (I've gotten hundreds of hours out of many free games), but it's still good enough to be acceptable for most people (to say nothing of the fact that anyone who's buying Madden annually is probably getting way more than 10 hours out of it, particularly where that demographic often doesn't buy many other games). Generally speaking, gaming is actually extremely economical as far as entertainment media goes, even if you're paying full AAA price.

The gamers who complain generally aren't the ones playing the game.

Pretty much. It's well known that Madden has a very sizable fanbase of people who really only care about playing the same game with roster updates each year, which is exactly the audience EA develops the game for. Most of that fanbase doesn't align with the base that people generally refer to when they use the term "gamer."

As a side note, I feel like his comparisons between this year's video game industry and last year's need to be taken with a grain of salt, given that much of the world has spent a sizable portion of this year stuck inside and unable to do much except play more video games than usual. Granted, much of the world has also had their disposable income significantly limited by being laid off, so maybe it evens out. I dunno.

The lack of Galaxy 2 puzzles me, but I'm still getting it. It'll be nice to be able to play them without hooking up a different system, and $20 apiece is hardly a bad price (though the fact that SM64 has been sold for $10 means it's probably more like 10/20/30, but that's beside the point). Realistically, the fact that it's a limited print run means it's going to sell out regardless of what I do, so abstaining wouldn't send any message at all.

The punchline here is that people who think it should be capped are most likely wage-cucks who'll never see that kind of money in their lifetime.

it is a pretty safe bet that most people expressing literally any opinion will never be as rich as the richest 0.1% of the population. That's a little too tautological to be a particularly meaningful statement.

Joker_X_II posted...
But if the positions were reversed, they would do anything and everything to keep their money.

Eh, yes and no. Personally, I really don't care about being a billionaire. That's just a completely unnecessary amount of money. If I were to magically win a billion dollars overnight (ignoring the economic ramifications of such shenanigans), I'd give most of it away because even just $5-10 million would be more than enough to live comfortably on for the rest of my life (note that the salary caps being considered are intended to prevent people from becoming billionaires, not millionaires). In that regard - the strictest interpretation of "if the positions were reversed," no, I wouldn't try overly hard to keep the money.

However, if we're talking about earning the money more gradually, things get a bit different. It's because I don't care about being a billionaire that I will never become one. Conversely, if I were to become a billionaire the non-magical way, I would have to care, and caring would entail fighting tooth and nail for every dollar I could get my hands on. In that sense, yes, I'd be doing everything I could to keep my money, but that's less a reflection of my personal greed and more the simple nature of what one has to do in order to become a billionaire. Quite simply, I would never end up in that position without adopting such a mindset.

In that latter regard, your statement isn't wrong, but it makes some fundamental assumptions that prevents it from accurately assessing my character. Again, we run into tautology issues: If I were a completely different person who cared enough about becoming a billionaire to maximize my income at every turn, then I'd maximize my income at every turn. That also isn't a particularly meaningful statement, especially for the purposes of describing my (or others') current personality and values.

If anything, all this controversy has probably only driven viewers to the film.

What? Telling people that something is evil and horrible and bad and must be stricken from the public view makes people more curious about it? Who knew?

Don't those machines make a lot of noise?

I could believe that being surrounded by corn muffled that noise to enough of an extent that it didn't wake him up until it was quite close, at which point he was too disoriented to get out of the way in time.

How would you charge him?

Possibly manslaughter, for killing somebody as a result of operating the machine recklessly, but in all likelihood, he exercised due diligence in operating it and couldn't reasonably have known there was a kid lying in the field.

Maybe some microbe cloud is floating around Venus making phospine.

That's exactly what the hypothesis is.

So it is a biological product?
Or it isn't?
Or is it both?

Would you say that... saying that it isn't a biological reaction, is a bad phrase and you shouldn't do that?

What he's trying to say is that biological processes are not the only possible explanation for this observation, just phrased really awkwardly because he's himself.

While they are seemingly integral to what we refer to as the organic matter cycle that doesn't mean they are solely a biological product.

They aren't, but that doesn't mean "they're chemical, not biological" is something anyone with a basic understanding of the fact that biochem exists should be saying.
