The hitbox complaints are legit but at the same time pretty overblown, there's not nearly as many terrible ones as people say. Even the old 1st/2nd gen games mostly just had weird stuff where the full body of a monster hit you, there weren't that many Plesioth style invisible walls of death hitting everywhere. 3rd and 4th gen (minus a couple of really goofy ones in 4U) were pretty good in terms of hitboxes. World introduced some shitters but still was mostly fine.

Comfy_Pillow posted...

Plus most end game monsters move so fast and erratically many of your attacks end up just being reads, not carefully planned/placed attacks.

Unless you're fighting pre-Iceborne Garuga this isn't really a thing. Or rather, the fact that you can make reads is a sign that their behavior is stable enough that you can know for a fact you can do certain things at certain times and not get hit. Even something like Iceborne Fatalis has some clear openings for you to mess him up once you learn where they are

It was kind of a lame ending, but to me the character lost a lot of its appeal in the latter portions of The Stand (the novel). For a lot of the story he's a really interesting and unsettling villain, then in the last third he just kind of turns into an incompetent loser that doesn't feel like any sort of threat anymore. Kind of a common Stephen King problem honestly, he loves having a lot of his villains just stop feeling like they're worth a damn eventually.

In the demo you don't have the descending thrust anymore (it was shown in the trailer, the reason for that is unrevealed but leaked at this point) and the aerial X attack doesn't go straight down if you air dodge first or use the silkbind vault, so the aerial mobility is worse because you only have limited places you can land instead of being able to launch yourself and drop wherever you want along the way. Kinsects have apparently also been nerfed to either auto-attack or spread dust but not both, which isn't really that significant but still is baffling that they would do it. Bigger than the nerfs though is that the new stuff kind of sucks, the silkbind vault isn't very good with no way to drop down out of it limiting the ranges it can help you and the dodge thing is really shit, very limited iframes so you can't really use it to follow a monsters attack and end up right in front of them the way you could with Absolute Evasion in Generations, it's just a slightly better version of rolling to the side essentially. Lot of cool stuff on other weapons but Glaive didn't get any remotely good new toys to try out.

Wow that's much lower than I expected considering you're allowed to do 30 hunts

If you use each weapon for each quest, treating Great Izuchi as a warm up and Mizu as the real deal, you've used 28 of your 30 quests. So it makes sense. Not that the quest limit is a big deal, you can just delete your save data to have another 30 to work with and all you have to do is set your options the way you like again

There's four. Great Izuchi and Mizutsune are your actual quest targets, but the Great Izuchi quest also has an Arzuros in it and the Mizu quest has a Rathian (as well as a Great Izuchi hanging around)

I thought as long as you only upgrade to Leonhart, with Aura it cannot proc any other finisher and you get it all the time?

And yeah, Duel with a 7 second counter basically got me 240k damage.

I'm pretty sure the weapons that unlock new finishers also unlock all previous ones if needed. Even if they don't you'd still be at 50% at best because Rough Divide (I think that's the name) is available by default, and finishers aren't guaranteed (except maybe with max crisis level)

I believe this does the most damage in the game unless you built Squall to guarantee Lionheart.

With quick thumbs Duel is the most damaging thing in FF8 by a vast margin (there's also no such thing as "building Squall to guarantee Lionheart", Lionheart is a 25% chance to trigger whenever you get a finisher, which is a random chance based on your crisis level)

Yeah I've had more than a few moments of trying really hard to input moves on a different control scheme than this one. And then once I started getting the hang of it I tried a gunner weapon. Switching silkbind attacks from ZL to R only took me two entire hunts to sort of stop fucking up.

Gonna download the demo now. This will be my first monster Hunter game so please give me some tips. I watched a video showcasing all the weapons from Monster Hunter World, and Insect Glaive seems to be a stand out for me. Thats still in this game right?

Yes.

Biggest things to know going into Monster Hunter are that it's usually pretty tough to get the hang of at first and that the combat is much more about figuring out when to do things than it is about reacting to stuff. You stay alive and do damage by learning how much time any given attack takes and how long monsters stay in certain animations so you can know which attacks you can fit into which openings while being safe at the end of it, not by expecting to press the dodge button on reaction to everything. Your roll does have iframes, but not a super generous amount and attacks generally have a bit of recovery before you can dodge, especially bigger stuff like hammer/great sword charge attacks. Once you get the hang of it it's great fun, but it can take some time to get used to since most action games are a lot more generous with iframes, cancelling out of your attacks and auto-targeting of some kind.

They did my boy the Glaive dirty so far lmao. But other than that I'm having a lot of fun. Especially because this version of Mizutsune is really damn good, way more aggressive and active than it was in low or even high rank probably Generations. I love Mizu and they did a great job on it here.

does 'play solo' count towards the 30 quest limit

Yes

But you can just go delete your save data for the demo in order to get another 30, so in practice the limit is pretty useless and trivially bypassed.

Oh wait it's the second form I'm thinking of. I forgot there were three parts to the fight instead of just two

It's kinda weird nobody talks about party leader death being a game over sucking in say a Persona game.

Except people do. Any time that series allows enemies to have instant death abilities before you can be immune to them it becomes an infamous example of stupid game design. But generally speaking that doesn't happen too often that I can recall, and the main character has the most options by far for keeping himself alive by late in the game. Whereas in FFXIII the first form of the final boss has an instant death ability that you cannot ever be immune to that will hit around half the time even if you resist it and that it can use pretty freely.

Omega Weapon is borderline unfair to a blind player (with no foreknowledge Terra Break is essentially a guaranteed kill unless you're using invincibility stuff, though you might know enough to spam limit breaks and kill it before it uses it) but pretty simple when you know about how it works since it follows a pretty strict pattern, it can throw in a couple extra regular attacks here and there but all its big moves are always used in the exact same order so you know when they're coming, and FFVIII makes it easy to be invincible at will. That's in contrast to something like Emerald WEAPON, who is even worse to a blind player (Aire Tam Storm is a 100% guaranteed total party kill without advanced knowledge of how it works) but still can put up a solid fight even when you know what it does.

Devil Survivor 2 is my favourite of the bunch, followed by SMT4:A. The latter doesn't work as well without playing through SMT4 first, though it's probably not terrible to do that. 4 gets better for the most part as you go along so if you're mostly enjoying it you should stick to it. All out of those two and the two Devil Survivor games are great. I haven't played the 3DS version of Strange Journey but the original was pretty good, albeit a bit tedious at times.
