I think this is different. People are getting infected with covid. The given a vaccine or placebo. When you go in for flu shots they not infecting you with flu and then giving you a placebo. But I could be wrong I never really paid attention to vaccine trials this is my first one I followed closely.

Bill Burr is married and has been with a wonderful black woman named Nia for years and years. I guarantee you she was there when he wrote that bit and was nodding along to everything he was saying. Everyone one of my friends of color is siding with Bill on this too.

Use this is an example. There is a school bully that everyone hates. They run the school. Then there is a separate other bully that is beating up a bunch of outcasts. That first bully realizes they are both pieces of shit and beats up the bully/defends the outcasts.

Your response is to scold the first bully only. You said Bill shouldn't get a pass but he literally says in that bit that white women need to sit down right next to white men and listen to minorities speak. The fact that that is offensive to some of these white liberal women just shows what people have color known for years: racism is on both sides of the political spectrum.

Also, anyone that takes what Bill Burr says as 100% of what he is really need to watch more comedy. Good comedians that present themselves exaggerate everything. For Bill, his "sexist" jokes toward women are more ribbing in nature than full on misogyny. If you want actually misogyny in a stand up, look up old Dice Clay stuff.

Like I said earlier I've been watching/listening to Bill's stuff for years and know who Nia is. That's all well and good but not really relevant to the root of my problem which is that it's Bill saying it. Even if his track record isn't as bad as someone like Dice it's still enough for him to have a bunch of people who latch onto the sexism and amplify it (just look at the comments on this or any of his other numerous videos criticizing women: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWhZ2XS08aQ). The "Gucci-booted" line from the SNL bit already feels like it's going to be used to dismiss even a valid "woke" argument.

The confiscation and monopolization of movements to pull up racial minorities has been commandeered by certain white women and it's frustrating to see. Bill was not talking about all white women. He was not talking about all women. He was specifically talking about those women who used movements for their own agenda. Yes that agenda is good in helping people but it's also coming at the expense of silencing minority women and ignoring our needs as well.

That's the issue. That's his point. There are hierarchies in America and white women are placed squarely at number 2. His argument is that white women who do this should not get a pass just because they are women.

I agree they shouldn't get a pass but by that token neither should Bill. He's 100% punching down and his questionable past jokes/views on gender issues make the whole bit more insidious. It would be less of an issue coming from someone like John Mulaney or something, but still not great. The effect I'm seeing from this are people running with it to reinforce sexist attitudes. There are tons of great POC voices and comedians out there talking about the issue who aren't reinforcing toxic attitudes at the same time.

Bill's rant was attacking a specific group/type of privileged white women who have co-opted movements created by and meant for people of color. It's more like a bop on the head and then him crouching down for a jumping uppercut.

White women are definitely privileged compared to POC (or at least women of color), but not when compared to Bill who is at the top of the privilege totem pole as a white dude. And to say they haven't suffered is patently false. Even the wealthy/less underprivileged white women were literally disenfranchised in this country and still routinely face horrendous things like sexual assault and gender discrimination. I don't know how anyone can seriously claim that Bill wasn't punching down.

Ive listened to/watched Bill Burr for years but the sexist undertones are a bit much. Even when hes bringing up a valid point like how white feminism glosses over the struggles of non-white women, he delivers it in a way that just seems to enable the worst sexist attitudes (as evidenced by all the comments Ive read from his fans in response to his material). People will say oh its just comedy but when comedy punches down it gives language to the oppressor. Just from personal experience as a brown person, theres not a lot you can do when someone shuts you down with an okay Apu or something. Its an instant dismissal of your voice and reduces you to a joke in seconds. Thats a lot of what Im seeing in the reactions to this bit.

Well if they want to appeal to LGBTQ people, perhaps their characters shouldn't be blatant caricatures with no thought put into them whatsoever.

I am against ANY character of any kind being shoehorned anywhere. I don't care what their background is, but they should actually fit with the story they want to tell and not be a checkbox.

Whether a character is straight or gay or pretty or blah isn't going to have that much effect on how well the game sells if it's a good game. So making women ugly or lesbian gives you brownie points because you're fighting chauvinistic male fantasies of "fighting fuck toys." Or something like that.

When I talk about "pc culture" problems. Mass Effect: Andromeda is a great example.

They shoehorned in a trans person that wanted nothing more than to tell a complete stranger how trans they are, they did this just to check a box off and make their game "more diverse." They were called on their bullshit and went back and edited the character later, but it doesn't change the fact that the characters original SOLE PURPOSE was to check a box.

That is the kinda of bullshit pc culture I am against.
