Anyone know what an actual proportional court justice number would be when taking into consideration population growth from the time we first had 9 justices?

We only had 6 justices up until 1869. I wonder what the argument for adding justices was back then? But since 1869, America has changed dramatically. Seems the courts should follow suit.

I mean, I think I get what you're trying to say... I still disagree though

Of course they can have similar opinions. But peoples backgrounds change how people think and see the world. Thats why its important to have Justices from every walk of life.

Well that is what how they're supposed to do their jobs. The thing is, how they interpret it does tend to align to the political parties. For example, Republicans and conservatives will say we should strictly interpret it as written, or whatever. I'm using bad wording.

What I've noticed is... regardless of your view of reading it, you can still come up with justification for any conclusion.

The issue is that peoples interpretation of the law depends on their backgrounds. Blanket law interpretation is what republicans cling to in order to push their views and force the wording of the constitution into their favor.

Thats why vile people like Ted Cruz refer to themselves as constitutionalists.

I'm not assuming anything. You say "9 people isn't enough to represent the American people" and my counter-point is that SC Justices aren't there to represent the American people (perhaps that's also... why they're not elected by the people? Just a thought).

But they do represent the American people. Laws are applied to people. They interpret laws that directly impact people. If we had 9 justices who were all straight white Christian males, there would be a major problems.

Nothing in the Constitution defines the number of Justices. If either party wants it limited to a certain amount than they need to pass a constitutional amendment.

Honestly though what needs to happen is an actual constitutional convention. That way the constitution can be updated en messe. There's so much today that our founders never could have predicted and thus is unaccounted for in it.

Interesting. I do think its shocking that we havent added an amendment since 1992.

Its become impossible to actually change the constitution, which is why I truly think that the document is incredibly flawed.

I hate that we cling to this outdated piece of history that doesnt work today.

it's an incredibly dangerous precedent.

once you start, every time power shifts they just pack it even more in their favor.

that being said, it still might be right in this particular situation. but I'd try very hard to first get one of the last three to resign.

That doesnt mean its bad. It just means the way in which we nominate justices is completely broken.

Prime example-this current confirmation hearing. It needs massive overhaul.

Originally there were only 6 justices. Weve added 3 since. Lets make
it 11, so we can more widely represent the American people with a range of backgrounds, genders, sexualities, and ethnicities.

Democrats also talk about putting a bill forward to make Justice term limits to 18 years total. No longer making them lifelong appointments.

The constitution is supposed to evolve with our country. The Supreme Court has been proven to be a broken 3rd branch of government.

Saying you have no reason to be sad because you have a decent life is your first issue that you need to fix. Depression can affect anyone, regardless of what that persons life contains.

Even super successful people can be depressed. You have to realize that depression is a disease. Something that sometimes you have no control over.

Ive fought depression most of my life. Finally feel like Im at a place in life where its manageable, as I know how to fight it off now. I've never been at a place financially to get a therapist, too.

Honestly, it wasnt until I discovered the how therapeutic weed can be...which has literally changed my life. I enjoy life more now. Wasnt really a smoker before, except at parties in college.

Its helped me manage my depression SO well. Makes me enjoy life more. Lets things just slowwwww down for a bit. Gets me out of my head and allows me to see my own life differently.

Im not saying its a miracle drug. Hell, maybe you already smoke. But damn has it changed my life for the better.

Oh ya. The biggest trap Democrats fall into is assuming all Trump supporters are dumb. Theyre not. Sure, his biggest supporters are white males without college degrees, but still. A large amount are simply brainwashed.

The GOP has been pushing propaganda hard this election cycle. They're fear mongering, exploiting peoples anxieties through this pandemic. The Antifa narrative from the right is so absurdly off base to whats actually happening, thats its apparent theyre leaning into it hard as it scares people into hating the left.

Imagine this George Floyd movement never pushed BLM to where it is today...how would the right even attack democrats? Literally every Trump ad is nothing but trying to scare people into thinking that Antifa is taking over the country lmao

Im curious if those people are even salvageable. Thing is...even if Trump loses this election, his people are still here. Its not the Republican Party anymore, hes already fractured that. Its about 35% of the country that are hardcore Trump supporters.

I dont know if those people are able to be saved. Hopefully theyll see the light once Trump is finally out of office. Not holding my breath though...

There's been a few takes on Conan where the crowd is just awful because of the material he's talking about. Like the Hiliary blowing her own campaign bit.

First one was a girl I know, who posted an article trying to refute the NYT article about Trumps taxes and how he only paid $750 total. The Breitbart article she posted claimed he was still paying millions.

I made a comment about how it seems the author of the Breitbart article doesnt seem to understand how taxes work, and then I explained it all to her. She deleted the comment, then straight up blocked me on Facebook. I was respectful, and didnt attack anyone or flame at all.

Second one was a guy who posted a compilation of Trump disavowing white supremacists like David Duke, trying to say that Trump isnt one himself.

I commented that it doesnt matter if he says he disavows them when he IS one. I went into detail about how Trump has said for months that low income housing will destroy the suburbs, and its clear as day that Trump is openly racist.

The dude responded to my comment, saying he wasnt familiar with Trumps suburb comments, and asked for me to list a single instance of Trump being racist.

I listed about 25 different examples with YouTube links, and then he deleted all
my comments, and blocked me lololoo

These Trump supporters are cowards.
