It got enough backlash that they had to apologize for the pacing of the show and tell everyone the other shows will be standard pacing for fans of the MCU.

But I also think you're wrong, it's important thematically to have more "normal" sitcom episodes before getting too weird, and the first episode (as well as the second, which is so far the best episode) works much better as an actual sitcom than episode three which is structured entirely around a development in the meta-plotline. I also think you're wrong when you compare it to other shows and saying it deserves to be panned. WandaVision's format is super accessible - close to 30m episodes and a miniseries with a small number of episodes - so unlike an hour long drama series it can actually afford to fuck around for an episode without dragging too much.

Well first, you assume when I say it doesn't have anything to dig into, I mean that I wanted it to get weird. It doesn't have to get weird. It's just generic sitcom stuff. Doesn't have a lot of character work in it. It establishes things at a very base level. I felt it drug on because I just didn't care about the characters at all in this universe and it was just generic 50's sitcom hijinx. It just didn't have a lot there. If you enjoyed it, power to you. But I think claiming it's something brilliant is just weird.

I think y'all are crazy and are just fellating the first episode being what it is to justify you liking it a ton. lol Like, if you like it that's totally fine, but there's no reason for it to be an entire episode that if you remove it, you lose absolutely nothing in the series. It's not a great move and like Aecioo said, it's not brave. It's just poorly paced. You can keep the episode surreal while also including things to intrigue the audience. If any other show did something like this for their first episode, it would be wildly panned for not roping the audience in enough.

Like I said though, this series does a lot of good stuff and I'm really enjoying it, and they clearly have a solid handle on writing. But that first episode is just fluff and a bad choice, considering the backlash they've received.

I am liking the show, but I felt the first episode was a complete waste. The pacing of this show was a bit off, and I can understand why people were put off at first. That's been most of Goldberg's matches since he returned in 2016. Only one match of his has gone over 5 minutes, his disaster with the Undertaker.

The matches of his I did see, they seemed more inspired than this one. It was just two people throwing strike finishers at each other at a molasses pace until one gets pinned. That said, I haven't seen a Goldberg match in a while.

I was bored during work and decided to actually watch Royal Rumble through less-than-legal means. I got to the end of the women's rumble, but my thoughts.

• Who can honestly care about Drew McIntyre? The match with Goldberg was the corniest and I'm astonished it was as underwhelming as it was. The same "wow you beat me you're a worthy champ" like bruh he just tanked a bunch of spears who gives a shit. I was hoping they could have worked out anything interesting in the match but it was just a complete dud.
• Sasha Banks vs. Carmella was as good as it could be with Carmella. Her character work is just... pretty mediocre. Is this character over at all with people? I can't imagine being a fan of it. The ending felt a little lackluster to me, but the rest was really good.

Women's Rumble thoughts

• Billie Kaye is still the most entertaining thing they have. She needs to absolutely be featured constantly.
• Victoria still got it. Happy for it.
• I don't know why, but all the NXT women except Rhea Ripley felt completely underwhelming. Like they were just warm bodies.
• This match was extremely well put together and whoever helped with it should be credited because I hear the men's rumble wasn't nearly as interesting or good.
• Rhea Ripley's transformation is kind of wild.
• lol Alexa Bliss was there supposed to be some kind of stupid gimmick she has where she becomes a monster girl or something?
• The 24/7 title is still just... embarrassing. I refuse to believe there's a person on this planet that thinks it's funny or good.
• I'm glad Bayley seems like she's having a lot more fun now as a heel after they ruined her babyface run. She knows how to be entertaining.
• What is this Lacey Evans teaming up with Ric Flair thing? I can't believe they're still running her as a heel. Give the freaking mom and army vet a face run, wow. She's hilarious too. Just let her be a face.
• Nikki Cross seems like she's doing the best she can with no character now? She's always been talented enough to find a way.
• Naomi landing on her back but her feet not touching is so stupid. Like I'm willing to accept the other absurd stuff at this point but this is just ridiculous.
• Speaking of stupid things, I just want an end to people beating up other people who are still in the match on the outside (which didn't happen here much) but more importantly people who just enter the match again to beat up people. Stop it. Nia and Baszler just beat up everyone awkwardly and then decide to leave the ring again... why?
• Natalya deserves more.
• Bianca winning was the best call. Looking forward to hearing about how they completely screw her up.

I'll probably watch the rest tomorrow if I'm bored. But overall, it was entertaining and the women's rumble was quality stuff.

As for horror movies, I recently watched Host. Wasn't really impressed at all tbh, was just kind of Unfriended but somehow less fun

I actually can't believe this. lol Host was Unfriended but tapered down and just having a fun time with its nonsense! I loved every second of it.

re: Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor, I think Hill House is the stronger show episode to episode. It's really outstanding in what it does and keeps a constant flow. I think what Bly Manor does better, aside from being a gothic romance more than a horror story, is that it builds up to one hell of a climax. All of the initial pieces just sort of build up that by the time you get to that one moment, Lady in the Lake choking the eff out of the lead, from there on it's just some brilliant stuff that wouldn't be as impactful if the rest of the story wasn't crafted so astoundingly before it. It's just two different sets of pacing between the show, and if you go in expecting non-stop thrills like Hill House, you'll like Bly Manor a lot. I think Bly Manor has the absolute most dreadful moment of either show though.

Tbh from the way my housemate described his experience with Robinhood, my immediate thought was "Oh, they are absolutely doing something super shady or illegal." Like, the only point of contact with them is by email. And they they communicate by email only or some foreign dude will call you, but only on HIS terms. No phone numbers listed. No nothing. He was completely at their mercy until I said "Say you're involving your lawyer already dude."

They are abso-fucking-lutely doing some shady bullshit behind the scenes there. Like no doubt in my mind.

My housemate had a terrible time with Robinhood when his identity got stolen.

Everything else worked with him except for that app, which he had all his stocks tied to, and they gave him the runaround for over a month until he threated involving a lawyer. Getting in contact with them was a nightmare for them, and all he could do was email and pray for a response.

I feel like I saw "Newsom lifting restrictions" from a dozen media outlets, if there's more to the story like "LA county has its own restrictions", well that's all well and good, but the story is still "Newsom is lifting restrictions", no?

He is lifting restrictions, despite what red is trying to do to defend him.

From the beginning of this, Newsom has been a disaster. He has jerked people around, offered barely any assistance, and has broken his own rules before. When businesses were finally opening back up and everyone worked hard to meet all the standards, he literally said "Oh wait, you have to close back down in four days." He's just a goon and everyone has a right to be upset at him because he's just jerking people around and nothing he does makes sense.

He went on TV to brag about how much science there is and how great his state is doing now getting under control. Covid is still worse than it's ever been in California. The numbers are FINALLY starting to go down, but they're still horrifically bad and worse than they were before this latest lockdown. There are ICUs STILL at 100% capacity right now. And the tiered system is bad because people just go over to neighboring counties and it fucks everything else all over again. We still need this lockdown because things are still going up.

And you can say "Well at least we're getting the vaccine rolling!" But California is number 50 out of 50 states in terms of effectiveness in getting the vaccine out. He's just completely failed at getting people vaccines in this state, so we're even more behind than everyone else.

And on top of all of that, California has its own strain of Covid that is going around, meaning MORE people are likely to get this new strand of it! Things are so bad here we literally have a brand new strand of Covid to deal with.

And he's loosening the restriction for this trash tiered system that will not be successful. Gavin Newsom is an asshole. And I know red is saying "Well all these right wingers", no. Literally everyone on both sides are saying this is a terrible call. Right wingers will say whatever, but the science behind this makes no sense to lift a full state-wide lockdown right now. The right wing started to do a recall of this schmuck that got millions of signatures from people in California, which is why he's doing this. This is just going to lead to more deaths and anyone who is trying to defend this just buying into the nonsense of a guy who hasn't had a sense at all throughout this whole thing.
