It doesn't just happen when reading text

Text on a screen is the only place I've ever experienced it. Interestingly, I've never been able to get it to happen with text in a physical book or sheet of paper. I think it has something to do with the lighting, maybe?

Where else do you experience it?

Man, there's a lot of shit talking about Sunshine in here >_>

Makes sense. It's a shitty Mario game.

Note that I'm not saying "shitty Mario game" as in Mario games are always shitty. I mean "shitty Mario game" as in it's shitty compared to other Mario games. It's still a half-decent game overall, it's just not on par with most other mainline Mario games.

I can't say I've experienced that, but it sounds like an anomaly in depth perception / optical illusion. Sounds fun.

Yeah, it's definitely a really unique and curious sensation. I could see some people getting a little freaked out by it, though. It's pretty strange. But it's really simple to snap out of if it's making you uncomfortable by just looking away for even a split second. I had a friend when I was younger who experienced it too, but it always freaked her out so she never tried to keep it going.

That sensation where it feels like the text isn't small and a couple feet away, but instead that it's really large text that's really far away? Like the screen is actually a huge tunnel you're looking down?

It happens for me most easily when the screen is mostly just text, without a bunch of pictures or weird colors/formatting. I can sort of force it to happen if I cover one eye to get rid of my depth perception, but sometimes it'll just happen randomly even with both eyes open. I also notice it more frequently when I'm really tired, like I am right now, which makes sense.

It can be pretty trippy, and when I notice it I try and keep it going as long as I can before my brain sort of snaps out of it. It's one of the few tricks of the brain that doesn't seem to break when you notice it's happening. I like to try to push it to the extreme and make it feel as far away as possible. Just now I was reading a topic on here when it happened, and I literally stopped reading and just stared at one line for like 10 minutes gradually "pushing" it further away. It felt like the text got miles away and became almost like an out-of-body experience.

Mace Windu is renowned as the greatest lightsaber duelist of all time. He definitely stomps Yoda in a 1-on-1 duel.

Yoda's no slouch when it comes to dueling, obviously, but his true strength is in his connection to the force.

I thought the red crystals were manufactured?

There's 2 ways to get a red crystal. You can manufacture an artificial one, but they're generally not as powerful. Or you can "bleed" a normal one by essentially using the force to pour your own dark energy into it and corrupt the crystal. The bleeding process is extremely difficult and both physically and mentally taxing. It also has a decent chance of simply causing the crystal to explode and kill you.

I don't know what explanation they went with for Kylo's, as I never bothered to look into the lore for his. But I always just assumed his crystal was cracked because he screwed up the bleeding process. His whole schtick was that he was super strong in the force but couldn't control his emotions. So I just figured he messed up the bleeding, but he was so strong that he was able to basically just use brute force (no pun intended) to prevent the crystal from exploding completely. So he ended up with an unstable crystal to thematically match his unstable emotional state. That's my head canon, anyway.

f***ing underground hives lol

I'm pretty sure this is where my phobia comes from. We had wild blackberry bushes that grew in our back yard when I was growing up. Once, when I was like 6 or 7, I was out back picking blackberries with my mom and brother and I stepped on a yellowjacket hive. I just remember suddenly feeling a searing pain, looking down, and seeing dozens of yellowjackets swarming out of a hole and stinging my left ankle. It remains the most intense pain I've ever felt in my life.

To this day I get chills any time I so much as see a picture of a bee.

So my alarm goes off and I roll over to hit the snooze button. When I roll back, I feel a sharp pinch on my back just below my left shoulder blade. At first I'm thinking it's just another pine needle. There's a window right next to my bed with a huge pine tree just outside, and every once in a while when it's windy a branch will get pushed up against the window screen and a needle or two will snag and poke through and fall into my bed. Not a huge deal. So I just lean forward and reach back to brush it away, but what I felt was definitely NOT a pine needle.

I slapped the spot on my back and kinda scrape at it, and when I look into my hand I see what's left of a mangled bee. Given my phobia of bees and wasps I instantly jump out of bed, fling the dead bee into a corner, and start panic searching around my room because my brain instantly just assumes there must be a hive hidden somewhere. Took me about 10 minutes to calm down and realize it was literally just a single random bee.

Good thing I'm not allergic to bee stings. But it's in just the worst possible spot. Hard to reach or scratch at it, and just below my shoulder blade so it gets agitated basically every time I move my left arm. It's been driving me crazy for hours. >_<

Canada, UK, or France.

Probably France. It's been a dream of mine to live in Paris for a year ever since I visited there on a school sponsored trip when I was 14 and I convinced the chaperones to let me go explore the city on my own our last day there.

I was the 2nd-best French speaker in our entire group (including the chaperones) and had already helped get our group back to our hotel after our chaperones missed our stop on the metro and got us all lost. We had like 9 hours before we had to be back at the hotel to catch our bus to the airport. We'd spent the last 10 days going from one tourist trap/museum to another, and we were going to split into 2 groups to spend the last day doing more boring ass museum bullshit. So while everyone else was deciding which group they wanted to go with, I pulled the head chaperone, our French teacher Madame K., aside and told her I was sick of being a tourist. I'd come half way around the world and I hadn't actually seen anything I couldn't have seen in a book yet. I told her that she knew I could speak French perfectly fine, that I'd already proven I was more reliable at finding my way around the city than even she was, and that I was probably the most "street smart" person on the trip (pretty much everyone else was the bookworm type). And I mentioned that since everyone was splitting up, we could hide my absence by simply telling each group that I was going with the other one.

TBH, I still have no idea how I convinced her to say yes. But she was the fucking coolest teacher ever. I snuck off to the metro station around the corner, jumped on the first train I saw, didn't even pay attention to which direction it was going, waited 4 stops, then got off and just spent the next 7 hours aimlessly wandering around Paris. I'd probably still rank it as the best day of my life. I made sure to get back to the hotel a good 45 minutes before the rest of them and waited half a block away. The timing was perfect, and both groups showed up from opposite directions at the same time, so I just ran up to the group not headed by the teacher who'd let me go and acted like I'd been sent from the other to meet them. Had the biggest shit-eating grin on my face as we approached the hotel and Madame K. saw me leading everyone.

Damn that was a good day.

California law defines an illegal gambling device as "a machine, aperture, or device; something of value is given to play; and the player may receive something of value by element of chance.

That one word means this lawsuit will go nowhere. It's sad, but that's how this shit always goes. EA's already made the claim before that it's not gambling because they're guaranteed to get something every time. And because California law used the word "may" instead of "will", that technicality will be all they need to get away free and clear.

So, according to MLB, hitting a grand slam is something you should apologize for. Intentionally throwing at a player, though? Totally fine.

Fuck that shit. The pitcher should be suspended for throwing at a batter and if it's found that the manager encouraged it he should face suspension too.

You don't want a grand slam hit on you on a 3-0 count? Maybe you should have tried hitting the strike zone in your first 3 pitches. And maybe you shouldn't have left him such a meatball on the 4th. Just because you're pitching like shit doesn't entitle you to a gimme just so your feelings aren't hurt. Softest sport on the planet, tbh.

I was so hoping they weren't going to get a deal settled and there wasn't going to be any baseball this year. Bunch of greedy, selfish manchildren from top to bottom in the MLB. None of them care about anything other than their own fragile egos and their own wallets.

Respected loner. Kind of a nerd too, since I was really good at math and into computers and stuff.

I never really got bullied. At least not generally. There was this one d-bag that literally nobody liked who decided I was going to be his target. But he was too much of a pussy to do anything physical, so it was only verbal insults and trying to make fun of me. I just ignored him completely, and nobody else ever joined him when he tried to mess with me.

Overall, I was a pretty rare breed in school. I could get along with pretty much any group, from cheerleaders to chess club, and had friends in all of them. But I was never really "part of" any of them myself. Just kinda always on the fringes, friends with everyone and invited to everything, but never the core of the group.
