Personally, although the Wii U did have a lot of issues, I think when it had a great game, it was stellar. Its one reason I dont mind all the ports, because I think a lot of those games deserve another chance.

That's about my feelings on the matter. The system was clearly a commercial failure, but it did have some truly excellent games on it such that I don't remotely regret owning one, and I'm glad that these ports mean those games are going to be enjoyed by more people.

It always sounds like such a trivial, gimmicky thing to have the map on a second screen like that, but for really exploration-heavy games, I absolutely loved it. It's one of the main reasons WWHD was such an amazing remake: WW is a very exploration-centric game, but having to pause to check the map (and also the slow sailing where you had to play a song to change directions) made that exploration too much of a chore to be really enjoyable. Being able to access it seamlessly by just glancing at the gamepad made the exploration fun, which completely changed my overall impression of the game.

To be fair, you can assess whether or not a given ingredient list is safe to give to a dog without actually buying the product. Similarly, you could leave a bad review for a breakfast cereal that contained arsenic without actually consuming it.

On a somewhat related note, I think what I might have liked most about the NSMB U port was that added content.

The New Super Luigi stuff? That was originally released as pseudo-DLC for NSMBU (you could buy it as a standalone game, or download it for a reduced price as DLC if you owned NSMBU already). I think the only stuff they added specifically for the port was the ability to play as Toadette and Nabbit, though I could be wrong.

Honestly, given how many of its notable games have already been ported, there really isn't much reason to buy a WiiU now. The only ones left that I can think of are Xenoblade X (which was a system-seller for me, but YMMV) and Wind Waker HD (which is just a remake, albeit one that I feel elevated WW from relative mediocrity to being a serious contender for Best Zelda), and it wouldn't surprise me if they end up ported as well (though both will suffer for not having the gamepad map handy, since both put that to excellent use). The WiiU and its versions of the ported games will be cheaper than the Switch, but that's about all it's got going for it. Nintendo's very much accepted that the WiiU was a failure and is cutting their losses by rereleasing all of its games that hardly anyone played.

I suppose, and I have come up with some creative ways to combine recipes (which is where the artistry comes in, since the simple act of baking is more methodical than artistic). Stuff like cake decorating and presentation, though, I pretty much stop at "that looks decent enough," rather than coming up with any really creative ideas. I'm quite thoroughly of the opinion that presentation-focused plating is overrated and good food will look good on its own without any effort to make it prettier (also, people who leave the leaves on strawberries for presentation purposes are the worst kind of human).

For that matter, discrimination and prejudice don't have to be that serious to qualify as discrimination/prejudice. A man who is beaten up for being white is no less a victim of a racist hate crime than one who is beaten up for being black. Cisphobia is just as valid a concept as transphobia. It's just not an appreciable systemic problem (while transphobia is).

Eh, not that surprising. They've rereleased most of the WiiU's higher-profile titles on the Switch, given that said titles sold pretty poorly due to the WiiU's low install base, and tacking on some extra content to make the remake more attractive is pretty reasonable.

Yeah, that sounds normal. It wouldn't surprise me, though, if 2 weeks isn't ideal for everyone. Be interesting to see how that schedule evolves as more vaccines roll out and more data comes in on side effects.

If nothing else, you should contact whatever doctor gave you the shot to let them know about the side effects for statistical purposes, since it sounds like you did have relatively severe ones compared to most others.

Specifically, it's a gene coding for a protein. These side effects aren't due to viral infection, they're due to the immune system mounting a response against that protein (which means the vaccine's working). Usually, the response isn't this strong, but I guess TC's got a particularly robust immune system (that, or he got his second dose early).

Depends on line length and the amount of items I have. I use both.

This. Mostly the number of items I have. For bigger orders, it makes more sense to have somebody else ring them in (and bag them, depending on the store and whether or not there's a global pandemic afoot that prohibits them from touching my bags) while I unload them than to struggle to fit everything into the scale area of the self-checkout and frequently have to involve somebody else so I can remove things. For smaller orders, self-checkout makes more sense. I basically end up treating self-checkout as an express lane.

Last time I checked, sheep were the ones being led around in a mindless group and just going along with whatever they were spoonfed.

I liked the video of the sheriff of some small town in like Arizona or somewhere speaking to a small crowd there to talk about the state's new mask mandates. He explained the new rules in a very condescending matter, then ended with "All I can say is... don't be a sheep," and the whole crowd started cheering unanimously because they were collectively very eager to blindly follow that particular direction. Evidently, irony is lost on these people.

A lot of the voting base is, yes. Left-leaning states account for something like 75-80% of the US' GDP. That's why so much of the Republican platform is based around finding scapegoats for the economic troubles that plague right-leaning regions, whether it's immigrants, welfare, the liberals, or whatever other bogeymen they can come up with. Having somebody to blame is easier to swallow than accepting that the industries in those areas aren't ever coming back and they need welfare support to survive.

It was around Christmas that I had it, specifically because I was watching White Christmas with my family and they mentioned it in there. A couple days later, we made a batch to try it out. No regrets.

If we're directly comparing severity, sure, but there are ample instances of violence during the BLM protests that could be similarly justified by anyone interested in logical consistency, many of which have been latched onto by opponents to the movement for the sake of discrediting it.

You don't actually need an electric mixer (I just used a spoon), and I used salted butter and omitted the pinch of salt, but it turned out really, really well. It's very much a "sit and enjoy in front of a fire while it snows outside" sort of drink, like mulled cider or wine. Pair it with some other fall/christmas dessert like bread pudding or pumpkin pie, and you've got yourself a good time.

Otherwise rushing the capitol building was likely a spontaneous decision for him. I doubt he went there with the intention of doing something that dangerously stupid and illegal, but he likely saw the crowd doing it and joined in, figuring that he could probably get away with it because so many others were doing it. However, he bet wrong and he's almost certainly going to prison for it.

Does anyone else want to ask Zeus if he feels the same way about people that acted violently at BLM protests? The response should be entertaining, but I don't want to actually have to engage him in such matters because that's always so draining.

That's the point: $74k really isn't that much, but because wages are so stagnant, it's still more than double the national median salary ($35,977 in 2019). He's pointing out that, as absurd as it is that such a figure could be considered "rich" in a world where so many people are so much richer than that, that is still substantially more than most of the country makes.

Theres also a prevalent theory that tasting something sweet might send a signal to your brain which triggers insulin production which could throw your system out of whack and contribute towards diabetes. Im not aware of any actual research or studies that back that up though.

I don't know about tasting it, but sucralose specifically (since the molecule is almost identical to sucrose) will activate receptors in the small intestine that trigger insulin production. I don't think it's been linked to diabetes, but it does create the feeling of hypoglycemia and in turn cause sugar cravings.

Ive heard multiple people say that mashed cauliflower tastes just like mashed potatoes, and I flat out think they are lying about it

I made shepherd's pie once with roughly 50/50 cauliflower/potatoes for the top (I had extra cauliflower to use up), and I didn't notice an obvious difference. If I put it next to an all-potato one and tasted them side by side, I'm sure I'd be able to tell the difference, but on its own, it was close enough that I didn't care.

I wouldn't hold your breath. The NA localization has been published by Microsoft, and I doubt they'll want to bother bringing over the version for a competing platform. They may do so once both the Xbone and PS4 are pretty much dead and it therefore won't drive any system sales, for a bit of extra microtransaction money, but I doubt anyone will care enough by then for that to be worthwhile.

Honestly, it's such a different game that I don't even feel that the two can be compared. At the absolute barest level, they're both sci-fantasy action MMO's, but aside from that, the name, and a handful of lore elements that are more nostalgia grabs than anything really meaningful, they're completely different games.

Trains are great. I really wish they were more practical, but the only rail travel option around here is slower than driving and comparably expensive to flying, which means there's pretty much no reason to take it any further than the next province over.

And it's hard to ignore that a lot of the problem is almost certainly the site's moderation practices, which have driven off countless legitimate posters while turning a blind eye to trolls and other problematic individuals who never seem to get modded at all.

Nah, I doubt that has much of anything to do with it. The vast majority of people have no difficulty avoiding moderation, especially when it comes to discussing games.

The biggest issue is that GameFAQs - as a concept - just isn't really relevant anymore. Guides and FAQs have been pretty much completely obviated by Wikis (which are vastly more efficient for both content creation and consumption) and video guides (which offer more detailed explanations, with examples). The message boards are still pretty outdated, even after the attempts to modernize them with v13 several years ago and gradual addition of standard forum features, such that Reddit, Steam, and other more popular forums have mostly replaced them. There's very little incentive for new users to choose GameFAQs for their game discussions/inquiries over alternatives, and the old users that stick around because it's familiar and/or they've made connections with communities here (see: all of us that rarely leave PotD when we're on the site) are gradually drifting away. All of that adds up to a gradual death.

Conservation of matter and energy are a thing, but the relative proportions of matter and energy are constantly shifting, as are the forms in which matter and energy exists. Considering the relative number of participants, that's exceedingly unlikely even if you include all of the kids developing games in their free time who never even get them onto an eshop.

Mild hyperbole, perhaps, but Steam alone added over 10,000 new games last year. Most of those are garbage, but it's still a challenge to stand out in such a massive crowd.

Sure, but StS's success isn't just a consequence of its core idea (that, and "fortune" in the context of indie game development still isn't all that much money compared to people's usual concept of it). It's a consequence of developing that core idea into a genuinely amazing game that people have come to love. Even then, the only reason it's been a success at all is because a couple of prominent streamers featured it a few months after its initial EA launch. It had a very slow start, selling just a couple thousand copies in the critical first month, and it was only after streamers featured it that sales began to pick up (resulting in a very unusual curve on their sales graph).

Unless you also had the talents (whether in direct development or in hiring people that do have those talents) to produce such a quality game and that good marketing luck, the concept wouldn't have carried you very far. Cool ideas alone are enough for neither a good game nor a successful game.

On any given day, somebody is making a fortune from a indie video game. It's just a matter of finding the right concept and having the right execution, then getting a bit lucky.

On any given day, somebody also wins the lottery, and I actually wouldn't be at all surprised if the odds of making a fortune off of an indie game are lower than the odds of making a comparable fortune off of the lottery. Even then, most of the ones that do make a fortune do so not because they are good games that sell many copies, but because they're addictive games that generate a lot of microtransaction revenue (which depends far less on coming up with interesting, novel game mechanics and more on how sneaky and manipulative your monetization is). Candy Crush has made almost three times as much revenue as Minecraft has, to put the reality of the situation into perspective.

Does that mean you couldn't have been successful if you got to the idea first? Of course not. It also doesn't mean that getting to the idea first wouldn't have improved your chances of success. But the indie game market right now is very, very busy, and even having a cool idea isn't necessarily going to be enough to make you stand out enough to be profitable, let alone make a fortune.
