I was never a fan of how scholar of the first sin decided to scatter fragrant branches and statues all over the early levels, rather than only having a couple blocking key paths or rewards. Ultimately you can't really get stuck, but if it's your first time playing it's very easy to get lost and have to backtrack a bunch searching for branches you missed or new areas you weren't aware of. My only issue with Dark Souls 2 is how end-heavy it is... after you get your 4 primal souls the end is a straight linear path for the most part. --- "Salt cures Everything!" Ok, from the workshop you wanna go back through the double portcullus (assuming you opened it from the other side) and climb the ladder, alternatively if you opened the shortcut you can go up the stairs and then leap across to it, or if you opened the other other shortcut you can go the long way around up the stairs, wiggle around the fallen rocks, and then access the previously mentioned shortcut.
