Also generally a good idea to wait until a character's work is basically complete. Obviously you can never account for whatever sequels come out, but it's generally a bad idea to nominate a character whose show is on the first season out of what is sure to be a lot, otherwise you get stuff like Theon Greyjoy with an abysmal percentage, or Walter White with only a few votes.

Spyro the Dragon (PS4)
Via Reignited Trilogy. I had fun with most of this game but the final boss "fight" absolutely demolished that. And I say "fight" in quotations because it was more of a "final boss run around in circles and pray you don't fall off at the end and have to start all over." My least favorite part of the game was chasing those little "na-na-na-na-na" assholes and I spent so long doing that in this fight. The camera also screwed me up a lot in the game, but I was able to mostly deal with that. This game is pretty much the definition of a PS1 platformer, and I mean that in both the best and worst ways.

Wow, what an AWESOME game! Such a great open-world game, getting around was so much fun, combat was so much fun, all the characters were perfectly done, there were some fun side-missions that I went out of the way to do (not a whole lot, but I did some stuff), I loved the portions playing as MJ and Miles, I loved the boss battles... I admit there were a few parts where I almost threw my controller in a WTF rage but that's just me being bad at video games. I was a little surprised that the game ended when it did because going into the final boss fight it said I only had 68% main story completion (and even afterward it only says 70%). I guess it counts side missions in that percentage? Which is weird because it says "Main story." I was thinking I had a few more days to play. But I will certainly be playing Miles Morales soon. Not right away so as to n wear myself out of this gameplay, but in the next few months. Glad I finally got to play this.

I have a lot of feelings about this. It's... very different from the first two. I felt it was mostly an espionage game. In fact, it outright told you to play it that way, and save shooting as a last resort. Even then, most weapons were non-lethal, and there were potential consequences for using lethal force, whether on enemies or NPC civilians. The intense shoot-outs and relentless car chases from the first two were largely absent until very late in the game, and even then were far less intense than even mid-ish-game ones in the first two. Even the hacking seemed much less a part of the game than in the first two. I remember I'd be like halfway across the city (exaggerating but pretty fucking far) and chaining cameras together to set off explosives, wipe out half the fleet, and hell even complete half of my objectives before sneaking into a forbidden zone. Nothing of the sort in this one. Nor could I rack up cash by hacking everyone around me and draining their bank accounts. The missions were mostly very repetitive and because of the multiple operative feature you could actually fail some objectives (usually escapes) and still pass the mission. It felt less urgent, especially since I didn't turn permadeath on (if I ever play through this again, I will).

Speaking of the multiple operatives feature, I have mixed feelings on that too. I thought it was a neat idea but I didn't spend too much time on it because I found a small handful early on that I liked using and mainly stuck with them. But more than that, it made for a less personal and engaging story. Aiden and Marcus might not have been the greatest protagonists (well, actually I take that back, Aiden was pretty fucking great) but I still felt invested in their fates and the fates of their loved ones. By design that was absent here. If this series continues (and I really hope it does), I hope the next game abandons all the changes made to this game and acts as a true successor to the first two. Oh, and the game had an annoying tendency to glitch, specifically the NPCs. Enemies would just derpderpderp into walls and sometimes disappear entirely. Thankfully this didn't happen often enough for me to feel like I got a ton of cheap victories but often enough to notice.

On the positive side of things, the music was great and I've found some songs to add to my playlist. The villains were truly vile and while I'll probably forget their names tomorrow, they were a lot of fun to take down. And it was still a pretty fun play, if a bit frustrating at times. But the true best thing about the game was Bagley, who is an instant candidate for my all-time top 10 gaming characters. Hell, maybe even top 5. He was that damn amazing.

Yes. She is the perfect villain for the story, and without a doubt one of the most memorable villains in the history of cinema.

Fun fact - Margaret Hamilton reprised her role as the Witch on an episode of Sesame Street, which received so many complaints from parents of frightened children that the CTW vowed to never rerun the episode.

As I said in the "post each time you beat a game" topic, for a bundled-in tech demo, it was above average (maybe only second to Wii Sports?), and it's the kind of thing I might actually go back and try to 100% someday. But charging any more than like $5 for that would have been awful.

I also had Spider-Man Remaster crash, it was immediately after the Shocker boss battle at the bank. But my system had been on for several hours at that point. Thankfully it was a software crash and not a freeze/lock, but yeah I kinda wonder if this is going to be alright. My history with consoles says no - out of every home console I've bought/received new (pre-PS5), 4/6 have had to be repaired/replaced within 15 months of purchase. My Wii U was even defective out of the box with a bad disc reader, but the first game I played through was digital so I didn't realize it until a week or so after I'd already had and been playing the console.

However, this isnt a physical vs. digital issue, its a good digital maintenance issue, which you shouldnt expect from console makers who need to push their new hardware and thus leave the old hardware (and their digital storefronts) behind.

But that absolutely makes it a "digital vs physical" issue. This is done with physical media all the time in the form of going OOP. The difference is that you can still get any game in the library of an older console. You may have to pay up the wazoo, and might have to get a new save battery for it, but you can get it. Many/most of these DSiWare games are now lost to potential new players forever. Sure they were probably mostly shovelware crap but the hidden gems are gone for good too.

And you can say all you want that it's on Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft to maintain their digital archives but at a certain point it probably becomes not worth it to them. Yeah Nintendo is purging them crazy early but if you really think most of the PS3/360 digital libraries will still be available in 2035 (the equivalent of buying a SNES cartridge today) you're probably in for a rude awakening.
