No, but if I hear something I don't agree with I would argue the point with them rather than condemning them as, "lost causes" for the rest of my life and cutting them out of it entirely.

What you're doing is isolating yourself from everything you don't want to see or hear. It still exists though, and they're actually more comfortable and able to grow at a more rapid rate without your participation.

I dunno, seems like you can't influence people to develop positively if you shut them out of your life.

Since I moved back in with my parents we frequently argue about how dumb the news is. Originally, the argument was the typical, "how biased the "left-wing media" is and how they couldn't stand it, but with frequent effort they acknowledged that Fox News isn't any better and is frequently worse than the other news channels they decry.

They're still not liberal, I wouldn't even really call them moderate but they're a little less indoctrinated than when I got here and probably won't vote in this general election as a result. That's what beliefs are, that's what standing by your convictions means. If you isolate yourself from everyone whom you have disdain for you isolate yourself from the ability to make a difference in people's ideology. And that's a personal choice and it's fine, but to both sequester yourself among exclusively like-minded individuals while complaining about those you deem the dregs of society does nothing to improve the situation your complaining about. And again, you're under no obligation to try to make things better, especially on the internet, but it does make things more difficult for those who make an effort and try to bridge the gap to change the ideologies of those they are around. Identifying people as enemies in turn causes them to identify you as an enemy, and that person with an underdeveloped ideology that you've brazenly declared a racist now goes to commiserate with other racists and further cement their beliefs.
