Yeah, you cannot get away with fakes in this market, at all. I suppose you could go the proxy route and label your product as such in VERY SMALL PRINT if you were hoping to catch an unsuspecting buyer unawares, but that's just more of the same behavior I hate in the community.

They recently announced that there is an in-universe book called The Wakanda Files, which, in my opinion, feels like a very disrespectful attempt at monetizing Boseman even in death under the guise of "honoring" him. Disney's greed knows no bounds. They barely admitted that their handling of Mulan didn't go over as spectacularly as they had hoped.

EV takes odds into account.

people aren't flipping for profit the products with negative EV. if a $20 blaster is selling for $40, that means the EV is way over $20. If a $4 pack of Pokemon is selling for $10, the EV is way over $4. Even if it's only because you have a small chance to find a $1000 card. (Shiny Charizard, I am looking at you.)

I really hate economics sometimes.

also, these things flip for money because the stuff inside is worth more than the retail cost. all banning reselling of the sealed product would do is force the people buying it to open it before flipping the cards. the EV doesn't change, only the variance.

Ah thanks. My acronyms are about a decade outdated. But it's actually kind of a double edged sword. Some sealed product is worth more just because there's a sliver of a chance that you MIGHT get something good, making the gamble even more risky.

Literally every collectible category has this. If everyone could get the super popular thing everyone wanted at any point in time for retail price, they wouldn't be collectible, interest in the line would diminish, and eventually it dies.

I wouldn't say I'm b****ing, but you're entitled to that opinion. I hold the same opinion of scalpers in all mediums. Especially concert/game tickets. People who have no interest in the media and are only in it as a middle-man who doesn't need to be there.

Been collecting Poke cards since the 90's. Immediately reselling sealed product at launch for double the price is totally scalping, my man.

Scalping is a symptom of low supply. Without scalping, the only people who would be able to get a certain product are people who happen to be available to purchase it first.

If I want some Pokemon cards, but supply is so low that I can't get ahold of any unless I take time off work and stand in line for hours, which I can't do, then without scalping I wouldn't be able to get any. But with scalping I can still buy it but the trade off is a higher price.

Some people say the scalpers are the reason for the shortage. That they buy them all up on purpose to create a shortage. If that were true, then why aren't scalpers buying up every product there is? It's only products that already are in short supply. They don't really create the shortage, they only hasten it. It's another trade off.

Not saying its wrong or right. Just explaining the economics.

Yeah, but they ARE directly influencing shortage of supply and creating more demand while jacking up prices. These kinds of practices got people like Rockefeller and Carnegie in some doo doo during the industrial revolution. Granted, these are shiny cardboard and not steel.

Sealed product. I haven't found any Champion's Path and I've been scouring my area just to open an ETB lol. I get that it just dropped and it'll be hard to find, but scalpers are already reselling the $50 retail ETB's for almost $100 a pop.

Things like this make me wish for those pills that Job Bluth has for when he wants to forget things.

I can't find any Pokemon cards for retail anywhere in my area. Dudes camp out vendors within a 50 mile radius and turn around trying to sell product for twice it's retail value. The hobby is already an expensive gamble as is. Then when you complain in the community it's met with "Supply and Demand" by people who haven't taken a course in economics. It's totally illegal on a larger economic scale.
