That's the thing though. NGE isn't just all metaphors and referential material, so it has worth as an above average anime even just at face value. The best kinds of parodies, metaphorical/deconstructions, etc... are ones that have worth at face value and you don't need to know the source material to get enjoyment out of, like that Airplane movie. It's the opposite shitty media like The Scary Movie franchise, Duke Nukem Forever, etc...

Contraversial opinion: since evangelion is a deconstruction of the early genre... that viewers might not be familiar with anymore. While NGE is not a parody, it's like when a parody movie outperforms the original and no one knows what it was even satirizing anymore.

Or, in other words, I feel it's rather dated so when new things are inspired by NGE they too are dated by proxy

Why is it despite, your love for games you can play for a long period of time, and your previous experience with PSO have never never played either PSO2 or Path of Exile?

I have a grossly excessive amount of time on PSO... possibly the most in the world. PSO2 has always settled on my backlog, I waited a long time for the Steam version ... and when it arrived I never really got to it. I think there's a new expansion or something so I probably should try it out

as for Path of Exile... that's just a Diablo, right? Well, the reason I probably haven't played it is 'cuz I would be playing Grim Dawn

Fearmonium looks pretty cool, trying to ride the Cuphead turn of the century aesthetic with cool animations

If found I'd probably skip since I don't tend to play story driven games. I mean, I do like story in gaming... but I needs ma gameplay. It might be good for other people so I like the recommendation

Fabled Lands looks.. umm... I've been burned too many times by good looking strategy games that turn out to be flump

Same goes for Vampire's Dawn 3... been burned by too many bad RPG Maker games, even though there's technically nothing wrong with it as an engine.
