is this a meme? rpgs hardly ever require deep thought because they tend not to be designed with any real cleverness or intent
"just spam your strongest attack and heal when low" is such a common perception because it's actually a perfectly adequate description for the grand majority of rpgs
even "hard" rpgs like smt don't ask for more of you than to just memorize a resistance table and hit the correct attribute

it'd be cool if they fixed the garbage pacing and level design too

mario 1 has a really heavy jump and the level design is fairly simple but it's a pleasant little game to run through

what's stupid about it? it's a basic portmanteau of werewolf and hedgehog, and unless you're some pendatic whiner like the completionist, there should be absolutely no room for confusion or frustration over it

the people who dox and threaten people like him are pretty shitty but like, how do people support such garbage politicians and pretend that they don't know why people are mad

beavis and butt-head really didn't need to be revived for that extra season, and i don't have much faith in the upcoming episodes

surprisingly, a lot of fiends are screwed over by makarakarn and even baal gets absolutely locked down by it and that's like the third-to-last-boss or something

in general the reflect skills are monstrously overpowered but it's up to the game on whether or not bosses react to it or not, as some games like strange journey have some bosses with no counterplay and some that effectively oneshot your team or fully restore themselves

like every boss, you use buffs and debuffs and it's a total joke

as a bonus, you can also trivialize it with tetrakarn and it's basically one of the biggest joke fights in the game (a lot of bosses are royally screwed over by reflects in this game)

it's not unique to Persona, and I feel the same for any JRPG where you stand in front of your enemies, and you just scroll through a menu to fight, heal, defend, etc., and the rest of the game is basically an adventure game.

i wouldn't call that outdated
the smt series doesn't evolve its gameplay much and i feel that the press turn system (and similar features) are what hold it back, as you can't really have many crazy features if you can just steamroll with extra turns or just instantly lose because mc looked at someone the wrong way and got focused on
buffs and debuffs are really strong and there's not really much in the way of upkeep, setup, timing, and conditional stuff in the series so fights just feel like wars of attrition

It doesn't even cause damage. With bowser instantly popping up I guess it's tricking the game into thinking you just hit the deathzone of a pit?

areas like whomp's fortress and cool cool mountain have specially-defined death planes at the bottom, which is the standard way of handling death pits

if the game fails to detect any ground beneath mario, it will instantly kill him
pounding into this box will clip mario into the rock, and because there is no ground beneath that geometry, mario dies

on the top of the castle, you can crawl or slide around the back and clip out of bounds, leading to an instant death

because despite having the same branding, everything about its game design is different
can't be a port when you're not even playing the same, much like how sonic colors on ds is not a port despite sharing the themes, story, and concepts

sonic 1 on the gba isnt a port either because the developers completely rewrote the code for that game. you didnt correct me on sonic 1, not sure why

porting can be an emulation, a recompile to work on another platform, or even rebuilt
the degree of adherence to the original can be argued, much like how 3d world got a port with enhanced content and some mechanical tweaks, but when it's something that isn't even remotely like the source game then it's simply not a port

way better than the boring wii counterpart
