I don't know if anyone has a problem with the actress so much as they feel Harley has been overplayed (between being the "star" of the original Suicide Squad, to getting her own movie that wasn't universally praised, to being a part of this film, when she didn't necessarily need to be in it.)

WWW aside, we've largely eliminated the older-school stuff, and to be fair, aside from one outlier, my bottom tier were films from 1970 or earlier. I'm not ashamed to admit that. It's not that older films are inherently bad--half my top ten are "old school". But they're definitely catering to a different audience. Many of the older films feel like they're coasting on the audience of the day wanting westerns without necessarily needing complex or interesting plots to sell them.

Wrong. That's not at all what I said. If you give five directors the same script, then THAT is where style choices come into play, because they are meant to enhance a film, not serve as the sole reason a film can be enjoyed. There are multiple films on this list that are quality films first, and then the sound, the music, the cinematography, and the editing elevate them to legendary status. The write-up for my second-favorite movie on this list largely talks about how good the editing is, because it's a positive ON TOP of a killer story.

Also, funny Karo brings up 12 Angry Men, because the 1951 version of that is my favorite film of all time.

And you can go to an art gallery if you want to look at art without any need for a coherent narrative. Cinema is a storytelling medium, and as such, plot is paramount. Cinematography, music, and all of the production end of filmmaking should be frosting on top of an already well-baked cake, not just a can of frosting to eat independent of anything else.

Style over substance is a major reason why people are slowly losing interest in the Oscars, and the Academy's snobbish pushing of arthouse choices, as opposed to anything with mainstream appeal. Plot is clearly important to enjoying any form of media, otherwise you're just watching something to show off how cultured you are.

I will say that aside from the first month of BB21 (which was abhorent), the season was extremely good up until the final 4. I may hate Jackson as a character, but as a player, I think he managed one of the most impressive games we've seen in years.

Also, I remember there used to be a ton of talk about how I make these topics less fun because I'm so negative. This is what happens when I'm happy. The season is largely cast with nice people, it's mostly fun, and this week is the first one of the four that has felt like a flop. It's harder to really get in-depth in discussion when you're enjoying something as opposed to hating it with ever fiber of your being.

This week of BB is meh, largely because the worst possible HoH happened. Christian/Alyssa are all-in on the Royal Flush, and right now, Whitney is just one of those players who doesn't have any real connections within the house, so she's an extremely easy boot. If anyone else had won HoH, Royal Flush breaks down since Chrisalyss gets targeted, or someone else.

But overall, I've liked this season thus far. The first three boots are two douchebags who were never going to be enjoyable characters (and would likely far overstay their welcome), and Frenchie...who probably would've been overbearing if he lasted much longer.

I also don't think the Cookout is an inherently racist alliance. Historically, we've had 22 seasons of the show up to this point and zero black winners. In fact, prior to last season, we hadn't seen a black player reach a single digit placement since BB13 (which started out with 3/14 black cast members...and 2 of them were out pre-jury). So the idea behind the Cookout is racially-based, but it's no different than Sean/Vecepia teaming up in Marquesas: you understand how society works and you have to do what you can to try and protect yourself.

Ultimately, it's just nice to have a season where I don't dislike anyone in the cast (except people who got booted in the first few weeks, for once). It's refreshing after the entitlement alliance of BB22, the racist alliance of BB21, the mactor alliance of BB20, the bully alliance of BB19, and the veteran alliance of BB18 sapped my enjoyment of those seasons for WEEKS.

Are Karo and I the only ones who've participated in every list we've done? Because I should point out that I'm not someone who participated in this list because I love Westerns or anything like that. I do these lists because I like being part of the group, and it broadens my horizons by forcing me to watch movies I otherwise would've ignored. So yeah, I'm not going into this as a fan of westerns who automatically loves the classics.

There are only a few movies on this list that I think are really BAD in terms of racism (by modern standards), but the ones I ranked low, the outdated attitudes didn't even register with me. I didn't like Stagecoach or Searchers, not because of weird anti-Native sentiments, but because they just lacked an interesting narrative to me.

This is the thing. The movie is extremely generic by Western standards, and the only really memorable aspect of it is the overbearing, high-pitched little bastard child. So naturally, that shit torpedoed my enjoyment of the film as a whole.

Season 8 is my second-favorite season of the reboot. I think the Capaldi/Clara dynamic was great, and the Clara/Danny dynamic was great.

Season 9 is still good, but it's just not AS good.

And Season 10 is kinda forgettable, aside from the finale (which is great).

Capaldi's era is the best of the reboot.

Whittaker is great as the Doctor, but she just got utterly fucked by awful writing and heavy-handed storylines that take themselves far too seriously. It's good Chibnall's leaving, but I feel bad that Jodie never got a chance to really shine in the role.

Tony, I get that you're idealistic and all, but I'm sorry to have to break this to you...

The majority of people in America would much rather shut down all public schools than eliminate every police department. People in this country and fucking stupid and selfish, and a functioning school system is far less important to a random individual than a functioning police department.

You and I understand. We at least grasp the idea that a rising tide raises all boats, and having more well-educated students means a more intelligent and effective work force across all fields (particularly the ones like medicine or the law, which require a great deal of intellect). We grasp that police budgets are bloated and dedicated to the wrong things, and they're especially ineffective once your melanin levels reach a certain point. But most Americans are not us. Most Americans are fucking idiots. And unfortunately, they hold a lot more political power than we do.

I've said it before, but for a large portion of the politically active voters who reliably turn out for every election (re: white people who aren't negatively impacted by the systemic racism of the police), defund the police is a bad slogan and goes against what they actually want. They don't want the police to be defunded, because that terminology makes them think "abolish the police", which is frightening for them. We live in a country where the police are treated like heroes (I've pointed out how like 70% of CBS' evening programming is devoted to copaganda), and white people have this fantasy ideal of what policing is: that cops will protect them from criminals.

Basically, if the GOP is going to try and paint the Dems with "Defund the Police" (which they rightfully realize is going to hurt them more with voters than help them), then the Dems trying to flip the script and scare those same, self-centered voters into fearing the GOP, can't make things worse.
